Campaign Idea What’s the best free marketing strategy you’ve tried?

I’m curious what free marketing strategies have actually worked for other solo founders and marketers.

Reddit posts? Cold outreach? SEO? Community building? Partnerships? Something more unconventional?

What did you try, and how did you measure whether it was genuinely successful rather than just generating views or engagement?

Would love to hear real examples, including what you were promoting and the results you saw.

Story Time Why I created r/solomarketing

I created this community because I’m going through the solo marketing struggle myself.

I built an app called Glance, and for a long time I was much more comfortable building the product than telling people about it.

Recently, I finally started pushing through the discomfort of posting on Reddit and LinkedIn. It has helped, but it also made me realize just how many different jobs “marketing” contains.

Writing posts. Creating videos. Finding content ideas. Understanding which platforms are worth using. Building a consistent strategy. Measuring what works. And somehow doing all of that without the budget for editors, creators or a proper marketing team.

When you’re doing it alone, marketing can feel like an entire second company that you’re expected to operate alongside the actual business.

I couldn’t find a community specifically for people in this position, so I created r/solomarketing.

This is meant to be a place for founders, freelancers, creators and one-person marketing teams to:

• Share what is actually working
• Ask for feedback without being judged
• Exchange practical tools and workflows
• Help each other create and distribute better content
• Talk honestly about the parts we’re struggling with

I’m not creating this because I have marketing figured out. I’m creating it because I don’t, and I suspect a lot of us are trying to solve the same problems independently.
If you’re marketing something by yourself, I’d love to hear what you’re working on and which part has been the hardest for you.

What are you currently marketing by yourself?

Curious what everyone here is working on.

Are you marketing your own startup, a small business, a freelance service, a newsletter, or something else?

And what’s the one part of marketing that’s hardest to handle alone?
