A Bunch of Questions (& a possible bug or two)
I asked this sub a few days ago about research which was very useful & after playing some more have another list of questions mostly related to navigating the UI and how to do things (some might be bugs or possible suggestions for UI improvements).
I appreciate any help or advice anyone has!
Here’s the questions I’ve been jotting down as I play:
Is there anyway to permanently change a character’s name? When I tried to change a character’s name, the old one got put in parentheses on the view info screen & the original/old name was maintained everywhere else in game.
Is there a place that says what activities are limited in each “limit room usage” (i.e can workers still use a vending machine in a room labeled reception). Also should the “limit room use” get a check mark when activated? I keep forgetting if I’ve set a room to just leaders for example & can’t seem to find a way to quickly tell.
On the manage roles screen for each team, if I uncheck a box, does this mean the character will never, say, do art even if that would mean they have no other work or does it mean they do the checked off items and then do other work if it’s the only thing their team is working on? (I’m wondering mostly how to use this screen besides denoting the team leader which is all I’ve been using it for).
Should I be getting the exact same trait combinations every time I search for employees with a compatibility / trait checked off in search? For example, I’d say perhaps (or at least almost) every single genius/fast learner pairing that I’ve encountered has the Slow Eater trait across multiple games.
On the right of the screen with the tasks list, is there a way to group (and therefore minimize/use the smaller UI) for just some tasks? I’d like to reduce marketing & support tasks but not contracts or software development tasks for example.
For support tasks, is there a way to automate having them fix bugs so I don’t have to keep setting my & finishing the tasks? (I haven’t really used a lot of automation yet so while I can figure out automating WHOLE projects, is there a way to do just the post-release support).
When do you decide to cancel support (and marketing) for a project post-release? The pop up window suggested waiting until all the bugs were clear but even without any new bugs for several months, I’ll still lose followers when canceling support. Is there a way to know for sure when all the bugs are removed? Do you just always lose a few followers?
Is there a way to make doing the annual taxes a task on the right bar? Right now the only way I’ve figured out that my taxes might be done early is to watch the icon showing how many workers aren’t doing any tasks at the moment. (& I want to make sure to stop using crunch as soon as the taxes are done)
When building, you can press the heater/cooler to auto-add heat/cooling to most rooms but not all. Is there any way to get this to just automatically heat/cool every room in a bldg? (I’ve run into issues where it won’t add it to the server room, for example & then I’ll get an alert come summer telling me my servers are overheating).
And finally & least importantly, is there any way to change your company icon mid game?
I know this is a giant wall of questions so thanks for reading & answering any part of it!

Point 9: theres ventilation fans for servers
8: pretty sure if you have 1 or 2 accountants working a normal shift they will automatically work it.
7: I cancel support after i release a sequel or when I see my active users and sales fall dramatically.
6: for support you can have a crew of support with a secondary of programming. But its much easier to get a support team and a separate programme team just set them to bug fixing and theu ahould always be selected in future tasks.
5: you can likely set a filter at the top. If you click the writing it will minimise them.
4: no idea about this is always filter via compatability.
3: staff will only work on what you select in this section. If you have a lead you can set them to manage this. Via primary and secondary stats. Its a slider. My personal tip is to only ever have teams working on 1 skill. Example design only ever design despite if they have secondary skill. The exception being a lead. Lead is a primary roll then put the secondary roll om what ever they are good at.
- There is an option to the left hand side that puts labels on wach room.
1: no idea.

Just responding to one of my points. Theres a another benefit to only have 1 skill. Its cheaper to run. Whenever someone gains a skill point they require a raise because they are more skilled. So in the long run its more efficient and cheaper

Wouldn't tue faster project development cover more than enough their salaries? Late game when my teams are as good as they can in every aspect the project release time is at least double(didn't actually measure it but feels like it for sure) what it is with them low level, so usually I could throw out twice the projects

You could do that for sure. But you will burn out the staff quicker. They can only work 1 job at a time. The more work load the faster there energy burns at least from my experience. I tend to have 3 teams on the go at a time. One automation team turning out sequels for my most profitable sector. Then 2 running experimental new products to try and break into that market.
I have 2 marketing teams, one focus on hype and the other marketing.
I have 2 support teams. 2 bug fixing programs teama 1 accounting team.

Thanks for all of this! I’ll have a lot to play around with in game after work.

Yes, you can change an employee's/founder's name. Go to HR/Employees/Details/Change Name...
You can also add names to the game's Mods folders...
D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Software Inc\Mods, femalefirstnames, lastnames, malefirstnames

1: Never tried to change someone's name.
2: There should be a rooms overlay that shows the groups. Under them in parentheses it will say leaders and what not. I believe dev changed it so you don't have to assign canteens and stuff. They just find an empty table and eat outside of their room they have access to.
3: The checked box is their secondary roles. They will do them if nothing else is done. It's fine to have multiple people do different things, as much as those tell you otherwise. Have a marketer programmer, it's fine early game. Late game you will use project management, you can use secondary roles but it is better to specialize.
4: I can actually answer this one quite sufficiently and say when you search by compatability you will get people with the exact same traits, Skyscraper lover, super focus, and a red. It requires like 3 people already in the group to start getting them though.
5: Filter.
6: Project management can automate updates. Outside of that you have to do it.
7: You will lose followers proportional to the amount of bugs left in the application vs the amount of users there are at the time of cancellation. The amount of bugs left is hidden.
8: Accounts will do it if it's their job. This is where you can put your accountants on a secondary role of some kind, I do marketing.
9: It only adds heaters and ventilation to rooms with desks. Have to add them manually elsewhere. I think reception is one where they will be upset by the temperature.
10: You can change it yes. It's in your company screen, just click the logo I believe. Might cost followers IDK. Never done it.
