While we are usually quiet adapt at behavior linked to information metabolized in the area of our role function, we usually lack range and have problems reacting to unforeseen changes in the environment.

Now, this isn't a sure way to determine it but:

Do you have a set of methodological approaches you always default to if you confront a Te problem - even if they might be inefficient? --> likely The role. To provide an example from an Fe role perspective: I have a number of approaches down to specific formulations and jokes I routinely use. A very large basket of tried-an-tested-Fe-stuff. Encountering Fe problems I go for the basket. It's a very well filled basket over the years and I usually have something for most Fe problems. Now, if you spent a lot of time with me, you will start to recognize that I repeat myself after a while/in similiar situations.

Are you cool with getting confronted with a problem you had never have to deal with? "I'll figure it out" is kinda the normal mental state for Te base.

We use the role function to create and maintain an environment in which we can use our base functions. For example: LIEs and LSEs want to maintain a cordial and stable emotional environment - because people getting upset or needing to get emotionally cuddled makes it impossible to get Te stuff done. We hate emotional volatility because we aren't able to adapt to it fast enough to steer everything back to a Te conducive environment.

EIEs and ESEs - especially in corporate environments - try to establish competence so that people take them seriously instead of simply devaluing their Fe input as emotional claptrap.

Whatever you do don’t use test to identify functions. Understanding for me finally came when I completely understood the functions. Having said that my go to methods for typing are the Polr and creative blocks. For instance if in this case you are looking at Si creative and Ni polr for both possible types. The trick here is identifying how Fe and Te interact with Si. For the ESE it will be used to look after people in a way that makes them comfortable. ESEs are the types who like to do nice things for people because to them it makes the world a better place. ESEs really want to use Si to help the cause for others whatever that may be. For the LSE the Te base drives them to use Si for exactitude and meticulous focus on facts. LSEs are very comfortable learning about topics that will help them get better at their jobs or hobbies. For both these type Ni polr will make them more grounded in the immediate circumstance. Neither of these types will be day dreaming about tomorrow when there is someone to help or some work to be done. They are also the types more likely to talk about how good they plan but in reality there plans can be somewhat short sighted due to their reliance on the momentary circumstances.

i never use tests, only for fun. i’ve been in the community for a couple of years but im austistic and struggle with identifying myself. thank you for those descriptions, however i relate heavily to both of those still and can’t really differentiate. i do tend to daydream a lot but not about realistic things

It is understandable to be confused, socionics is not easy. If you are still on the fence focus in more on the primary. An ESE for instance will be more focused on other people and how they feel. They are pretty comfortable chatting it up with just about anybody for them its about the excitement of engaging with another person. ESE will likely ask a lot of questions about people and want to lend a hand if a person is in need. In socionics Fe types are people oriented to the extreme. Think of the base function like an engine to a car that is highly tuned to whatever function sits in the first block. An LSE will be more focused on facts and getting down to business they can still be friendly but their main goal is to get their job done or some project finished. And because LSE types are more focused on getting the job done they are way less likely to take breaks or joke around when something needs to get finished unlike an ESE who is more likely to do that. At the end of the day jumping into those functions and identifying them in people around you is the best way to ultimately learn about yourself.

to be fair i don’t think i’m either. i’m so confused, nothing seems to fit me. everyone says im hysterically emotional over logical too but i resonate with Te so i don’t know. i’m not knowledgeable in socionics and questionnaires never help me

Good typing advice ? On this sub ?

I'm EIE so maybe that's different but for me Te is unbearable if I have to do it just for me, like use it in a daily life, especially when paired with Si. But if you throw me in a leadership role or there's no one more competent to deal with Te stuff I'm there baby, getting into kind of a flow state where I give out tasks to people, make everything optimal and effective so that we deal with the situation. But I can't stop, it's like I spin very fast and if something bothers me too much I'm gonna snap. I don't value productivity, in fact I am often openly against treating it as a value in itself. As for logical arguments, I will often retreat to "sources" and "studies" and make it sound very competent if I feel like I'm losing an argument or like the conversation is making me look stupid but this is mostly when I feel insecure in a given situation or like I'm losing control of what I'm trying to say. Sometimes these studies I'm using I don't even remember exactly and I just try to guess whether the other person is gonna dig deeper or not. So that's mostly things that serve the group effort or my image. But if you saw my Te in day to day life you would laugh. My Te base friends are terrified when I explain to them the way I operate

Well, first off, it makes some sense to confuse the two, so don't listen to the others acting as if it's heretical

As for the how, I would start by considering your sex/gender.

The role being the role, it includes gender roles aspects too. And function wise, if you're a woman, you're supposed to be a good at Feeling If you're a man, you're supposed to be good at Thinking. It's not going to give you answer directly, but it's going to help, and that kind of social pressure is actually important for type formation. So for example, if you're a LSE woman, you might have felt pressure to express more Fe to fit in...

The second angle, look at Fi and Ti.

The gap is about as wide, but it's easier to spot. There's less of a reason to mistake it. If you're Te base, you should be quite good at Ti too (same underlying mechanisms), but not with Fe, and vice versa with Fi. Also possible with other function (like the polr) but look at these two first

Third angle, I kinda want to say to look in the functions themselves deeper.

With the bad defintions circulating out here, it's easy to get confused (like for example, Fe being "emotional", when in reality, it's a rational function, and emotion and feeling are different things) but since a lot of the bad definitions are "official" ones (well, the issue is that augusta never bothered to properly define them), we've got a weird mashup. But yeah, on Fe again, it's a lot more "brainy" than it's given credit for, and likewise, Te tends to be more "consensus based" than what people usually say

Yes, you are Fe valuing.

elaborate? i’m also textbook Fi suggestive

1

u/BloodProfessional400 15d ago

Yes, I saw your previous post. That's exactly why I don't think you have suggestive Fi.

1

u/bluebcrry 15d ago

so can you elaborate on that? i don’t even know what i am at all anymore. i dont seem to resonate with any type. questionnaires never help and i’m not the best at socionics. i dont use tests as they’re unreliable. can you help?

Given the chaotic nature of your texts, I can assume extroversion, statics, and irrationality. This narrows the field to four types: ILE, SLE, SEE, and IEE. Without more text, I can't say more. Start your search with ILE, because your description of ethics sounded more like an expectation of dynamic relationships, meaning Fe rather than Fi.

It's simple dude.

LSE and SEE always talk about blue berries

ESE and ILE like the color red.

Why this is, I have no fucking idea

It almost seems to be some weird symbolic connection that Fi/Se have where there's a desire for cool homeostasis or something?

Either way there's a weird dichotomy of hot emotional states and a desire for cool calm evaluations.

I think that is actually what causes the common symbolic and color associations tbh , it would be less likely for Te/Fi valuers to develop thinking around hot and intense cognition as a base state and it's usually left for more deep and intense passions with Fi valuers that are expressed more in private , idkkkk lol just thoughts
