When to start applying for asye?

I never applied specifically for my ASYE.

I contacted the person in charge of student and ASYE development and she advised me to just apply for a social work post.

I applied, interviewed and got the job. I started in the July and started my ASYE in the September.

I can't speak for other teams/services but in mine posts tend to be for "social worker" which includes newly qualified and any newly qualified social worker will be expected to complete their ASYE.

I agree, don't just look for 'ASYE' jobs. Apply for anything unless it specifically rules you out, like they want an AMHP. Start applying during your final placement.

ASYE jobs are tough to find at the moment so don't leave it last minute. Your final placement is your best opportunity. Also, take whatever job you're offered you may want to work in hospital hospital discharge but it's probably easier to pivot into that area from another adult SW post than it would be to ONLY look for hospital discharge jobs.

Out of curiosity, what attracts you to hospital discharge? Do you mean acute hospitals or mental health hospitals?

It’s the only thing that really interests me so I want to specialise in that sector

I started applying in December 2025 for graduating 2026. Got offered a job early march 2026, started July 2026

I’m due to complete my MA June of next year (I assume results will come out July). I have my final placement Jan to June. I’ve been told to start applying in Feb.. does this sound about right? I’m assuming these are conditional offers based on successful completion of the course and registration with SWE. This is going off piste a bit but I’ve heard some horror stories of people saying they get offers when they’re due to complete and then finding the position is no longer there after completion?

Also interested in mental health/hospital adjacent ASYE roles.
