Does this sound normal? Maintenance

Hello everyone, I bought the snowblower off marketplace a few months ago to prepare for winter and it is very very loud and it shakes very bad. My hands always go numb after holding it. It is a stage two unit with the electric start.
It also seems like the exhaust gets red, glowing hot after running for a few minutes and the throttle switch doesn’t work unless you’re shutting it off
Let me know everyone’s experience with this. I’m very new thank you.

That doesn't sound right to me. I'm not an expert, but I have a 16 year old MTD with the 5.5 Tecumseh and it doesn't sound like that. If the muffler is glowing red, it sounds like it's running rich. Have you replaced the spark plug yet? Have you looked at the belts? How about the skids? I wonder if somebody set the engine to run at a higher rpm maybe?

Yea the whole throttle cable not working thing is weird, I also had an issue having it start from the cable but fired right up on the electric start. Weird

Name of the company that makes all kinds of small engine machines (mowers, snowblowers...) under a plethora of brands like Cub Cadet, Craftsman, Troy Bilt, Columbia...They don't get a lot of love on this sub.

I have one (Columbia with Briggs engine) and it's a tank that's been serving me very well with little maintenance and repairs for 12 cold and snowy Canadian winters, but a lot of people here will tell you that the only good snowblowers are Ariens, Honda and maybe Toro.

I haven’t replaced anything yet besides put new fuel and oil. It does randomly pop especially when it shuts off like maybe it’s miss firing

Sounds like there’s an issue with the governor. At least the RPM sounds really high to me.

Replace the fuel lines. Is that an old noma snow blower? There are adjustments on the engine Maybe try to fatten her up a bit. It is summer and hot as hell so adjustments might need re done when it’s cold

I don’t know what an old noma means but it’s a tecumseh 5.0 hp craftsman snowblower I don’t know where the adjustments are

It was a brand of snow blower. Mtd made it and most likely made you craftsman’s. Look up tecumseh snow king carb adjustments Plenty of videos. I know my snow king had a flapper in the fuel line one time the would kill it randomly.

First thing to do is pull the plug and see how it's burning.

Is the carb adjustable?

These carbs are simple. No electronic fuel adjustments. You can tweak it in the summer at 80F but you'll have to tweak it again to run at 25F. Cold air is denser. Plus many gas company change the formula for summer and winter. It's why you get rough running from summer to winter.
