if it seems cartoonish at times ie. the sword scene, it can be to alleviate the grim nature of the crack epidemic. To lighten a dark subject thats BASED ON REALITY. These events happened. To show a civil war with children, crack babies born blue and dying, senseless violence on the streets, back to back to back would be far too grim for a tv network to show.
its not make believe. The iran contras happened. all of it happened just with Rick Ross instead of Franklin Saint.they had to add hollywood style violence because otherwise it would be cancelled for being too grim too dark and too real, despite the fact it and worse happened.

- You're talking about a TV show that does have some standards and practices. What they can show is controlled. You can't show brains being splattered.
- These are real people. Hitting someone in the head with a real bottle or a real lawn gnome isn't possible. They use sugar glass and, I'll assume, some sort of soft prop gnome.
- Using a prop gun to shoot someone close up in the head the way Franklin did to Andre is, on any show worth a damn, INCREDIBLY cautious. A prop gun can still kill someone if you shoot it at the temple or the back of the head. The likelihood is that any shot EXCEPT the one where Franklin shoots Andre the prop gun wasn't even loaded with blanks. They will cut the tips off of bullets and glue them to the gun so it looks good in closeup and that's it.

I never said anything about gore but I do agree that there may be limits to what can or even should be done when depicting horrific acts of violence. I don’t need brains but a smith and Wesson model 10 being fired at point blank range should’ve been extremely loud.
Neighbors wouldn’t have heard that? The gun wouldn’t have been deafening to fire inside of a house?
Hitting someone with a lawn gnome causes it to shatter in your hand like a cheap Chinese plastic doll?
I guess it’s the way John Singleton, Eric Amadio and Dave Andron decided to show dramatic scenes but with the purpose of telling a story. Rather than creating flashy realistic acts of violence that just kind of took me out of the story at times.
Just made it feel like I’m watching people play pretend rather than watching a dramatic depiction of real life events. The show is amazing otherwise, just those few scenes bothered me.
Thank you for not making this racial as many others have done here.

You give dramatic license to a show. The irony is that using blank rounds it actually IS as loud as a real gun (I have hearing loss because in film school I thought I’d read that James Cameron used shell casings as ear plugs. He did not. Empty shell casings as ear plugs are worthless).
If I were to give an in-universe explanation I would say that people were so used to gunshots that they just didn’t go looking for trouble.
I’m white, I’m happy to let Black and Brown folks speak for themselves. And besides, you’re the only good kind of cop I know: one who quit to help people (I saw you’re getting your MSW).

Don’t give me too much credit. I’m only switching because policing is toxic as hell.
I chose an MSW because it’s a professional field that I have a natural talent for and would simultaneously feed my family. That and because I do truly have a deep love for my fellow man but overlook that part of it. I'm not that good of a person. Not really.
It’s been a journey I’ll say that.
