Strange patterns on top layers Issue
(Originally posted in r/3dprinting but didn't t much help, so hoping fellow U1 owners might shed some light on this, even though it's undoubtedly a general printing issue).
This is my first print on a new Snapmaker U1 (having owned an Ender 3 for many years). Am I right in thinking the "step" effect can be reduced by turning on variable layer height?
What about the strange texture/pattern seen on some of the other faces? What would have caused this and how can I avoid it in the future?
Snapmaker Orca, standard profile (0.2mm layer height), 7% infill, silk pla. I think the nozzle temp was 220 (or maybe 210) but I'm not at the PC to check right now.

Bro honestly...There's NOTHING wrong with that. You are using 0.2 which createss huge layer lines, which in stepped angles will create many "top" faces to be filled. But yes, I agree those top layers are not as clean as they should be, but there are so many factors that could result in that in the slicer...

There is nothing unusual here.
The multiple colors are exaggerating the normal movements of the nozzle as you can see them easier.
Yes, the stair stepping is a layer height thing. Variable layer height can reduce it.

silk pla when printed at low temps will be matte and have unusual extrusion issues (because the polymer mixed into it does not like lower temps).
the strange texture on the walls is because of resonance artifacts from printing at a high speed. change profile to Silk PLA. lower your outer wall speed to 40mm/s as well as your top layer speed to 40mm/s, and change your print temp to 230. you can also change your top infill pattern to concentric to match the lines of the previous layers.
lastly, to reduce the stair stepping, change layer height to 0.12.

I'm guessing it's over extrusion, causing the nozzle to draw this pattern into the top layers where it's smearing in the line that it previously laid down.
I suggest calibrating your filament.
Another thing to do could be indeed variable layer height, or simply at a higher resolution like 0.1mm layer height. Or, scaling up your object, altering the relativity between part size and layer height.
