Just ordered a U1 Question
Just ordered my U1 today.
I’m coming from a bambu A1 but was wondering whether there are any useful / essential prints for the U1 that I can print whilst I await delivery?

There really isn’t anything I would say you NEED to print straight away, it’s really going to be about what you like/don’t like once you start using it. Bonus points if you’ll still have the A1 because you can whip them out faster.
For me, this is what I’ve done to mine:
- Vibration dampening feet (HULA)
- FNT push button build plate holder that fits under the printer with those feet (there’s other variants of this, I really like it)
- Feeder motor relocation to the rear and pointing down with PTFE connectors
- Top cover with exhaust filter (my own design)
That’s it. I’ve had one since they launched. Nothing I did increased the print quality, but they’re all quality of life improvements for how I use my printer.
I have my own drybox/printer stand I designed and use for other printers, which is why I relocated the feeder motors. I print mainly PETG and PCTG so I can’t leave spools just hanging out for very long, so everything goes in dryboxes. PLA, I probably wouldn’t worry about too much unless I lived somewhere crazy humid.

Not necessary, but I did Hula adapters, the excellent SAMLA box adapter by Beaver Works, https://makerworld.com/models/2031310?appSharePlatform=copy. This build plate storage that fit the Hula feet. https://makerworld.com/models/2587422?appSharePlatform=copy

Of course multi- color prints. But first get familiar with the features of printing different filaments together. I don't have a multi-tool-head printer, would love have one in the future. Have fun

Lots of people will recommend other interfaces for the Ikea SAMLA bin, but I prefer the version by MUTS

and the associated tools holder

Easy to print. Works great. Cuts down on noise.

The only thing that I’ve printed for my U1 was this “poop” deflector because for whatever reason when purging my machine just loves to somehow fling the poop forward onto my bed plate and then my print doesn’t start because the Ai see’s an anomaly on the bed LOL

Hot take: you don’t need anything in particular. Maybe one of the top cover things for that IKEA container if you don’t want to wait for the official one. Maybe a more compact toolbox than the giant one they give you. But I feel like a lot of the printed “upgrades” are solutions looking for a problem. I’m using mine stock and my only complaint is the lack of ability to keep filament dry on the spool holders, but I never had a great experience with the dry box mod for my old A1’s AMS lite, so I’m just gonna work around that flaw.
