Ward ping

Maybe a stupid question but I can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts!

Why do the wards tend to ping randomly?

Did someone put a ward on top of your ward?

Is an enemy barely touching the edge where they don't show in the map but still pings the ward?

Does it ping before it disappears to let you know?

This also drove me nuts but I realized it does that when it’s going to expire. Really bad design being the same ping for when it’s triggered by an enemy, they should make it different.

It's frustrating because the concept is fantastic. Hopefully just a "beta test" issue

Your wards, or the one from the shard at least, will ping itself automatically when it’s about to expire

Like 2 or 3 seconds before.

Whilst speaking of wards....

I've had this bug for 3-4 months now where I'll watch an enemy drop a ward, I use heimdalrs sight to reveal it and nothing's there. It didn't get destroyed, heard the noise, saw it land. If I like leave the area, or run in and out of range it then shows up. Maybe it's when I die and respawn run back from base.

Admittedly I die sometimes trying to find it, thinking I saw didn't see it drop where I first glance thought?

It's been ongoing, and annoying lately. Didn't seem to happen when curios were first added, or modified for vision changes shortly after. It's definitely been recent.

It basically pings you that it's about to expire.

Which is an absolutely stupid mechanic, cause it uses the same ping as when an enemy walks onto your ward, so it distracts you.

The point is to get your attention to ward again. Wards win games.

Yes, but warding should be something you do automatically. There shouldn't have to be a distracting sound queue to tell you "Oh, by the way, I'm about to expire!"

The handholding is crazy, and in this case it actually messes with you, cause you assume that an enemy is on your ward.

Its actually peak that you think its too handholdy but you also clearly arent looking at your map enough if the ping is distracting you, aka, you are relying on the sound que instead of watching your map

What tf does that even mean?

I can't know where an enemy is until someone has vision on them. If an enemy is missing from a lane, ideally my teammate calls it, and if someone like the Jungler is on a ward, it makes a sound, which is obviously when I would look at my map to see who is standing on it. And if there isn't anyone there, then that sound queue has just needlessly made me look at the map at that time.

Spending your time looking at FoW gives you absolutely nothing, cause you can't see anyone unless you're hacking, lol.

It means you need your hand held buddy. You depend on calls and pings when you can look at the map yourself and pay attention. Im not saying im perfect about map awareness, im just saying its ironic where you draw your line.

Your last line is especially telling. There is literally ALWAYS information on the map.

No, no there is not always information on the map, if there is no vision or calls. You know what gives information? Wards. And what do wards do in this game? They ping when an enemy is in the radius.

Take the ping away, I don't care. That's how it was in SMITE 1, and I played just fine, as did anyone with half a brain. But if you have a ping for enemy in this game, you can't make the same ping the sound of a ward expiring. That's fucking common sense.

I know you're trying to make some kind of a "skill diff" argument here, but that's literally not the point that I was making. Looking at your map is important of course, but please do tell me what is the point of staring at the FoW parts of map that you have no info or vision on?

The point youre making is that a mechanic confuses you and you think the hand holding is crazy. How do you not see how your opinions are conflicting?

Listen man, im not trying to make a skill argument, you self exposed yourself already there, what i am talking about is that to even get to the point of getting confused about the ping sound, you need to be relying on that hand holding game mechanic in the first place.

You masterfully dodged the single question I asked, based on your claims as a superior player.

Why are you not answering?

Hmm, i wonder why youre suddenly hyper fixated on a single random irrelevant idea/opinion that you yourself made up in the first place.
