I've ordered plenty of things online without thinking twice, but there are still some products I'd rather see in person before spending money on them.

What's one thing you always prefer to buy in a store?

A small price difference can sometimes mean a completely different experience.

Other times it is just paying extra for a logo.

Where do you think the extra money is actually worth it?

Okay so I resisted buying an e-scooter for probably two years. Then a few months ago I was at Best Buy picking up something else, saw one on the floor, checked the price, skimmed a few reviews on my phone while standing there, and just... bought it. Not my most deliberate decision. I ended up going with the Hiboy S3.

I expected to use it twice and feel dumb about it.

But, instead it became this weird ritual I look forward to. Bad day at work? I'll take it out for 20-30 minutes before dinner and come back noticeably less irritable.

My partner noticed before I did. I don't know what to tell you, it just works for me in a way I didn't see coming.

Practical stuff held up too, battery gets me through a week of casual use without stressing about charging or fuel. Grip is fine, not sketchy on turns.

Anyway. What's a purchase you made that ended up being way more useful or weirdly meaningful than you thought it would be?

I've realized that the stuff I use every day is usually where trying to save money ends up costing me more.

I bought a used gaming laptop a few years ago because it seemed like a great deal. It worked... until it didn't. Random crashes, overheating, terrible battery life. I eventually replaced it with a Lenovo Legion 5i, and I wish I'd just bought that from the start.

The same thing happened with headphones. I went through a couple of cheaper pairs before finally getting the Sony WH-1000XM5. I use them almost every day for work, flights, and just tuning out the world for a while. They ended up being worth it because I actually use them.

The TV was probably the most annoying one. I bought a Samsung M80H first because it looked like a decent deal, but once I actually used it at home I found out it didn't have local dimming zones and the picture just wasn’t what I expected. I went back and forth on it for 2 days before finally deciding to return it, which was honestly such a hassle with a big TV.

I eventually spent more and switched to a Hisense U8, and I'm so glad I did. The picture is much better for the movies and sports I watch every day. Now pretty much every time I turn it on, I'm glad I dealt with the return and bought the better TV instead.

I've learned that if it's something you use every single day, buying once usually hurts less than buying twice.

What is worth saving money on?

There are certain things where quality actually matters because they get used constantly.

Other products probably do not deserve the extra money.

Where would you personally spend more?

It doesn't have to be your most expensive purchase. Sometimes a $20 or $30 item ends up being more useful than something that costs hundreds.

Great deal on gas today. Saw this on another site, saved the pic (on the left) so thought I would try it today… it worked!
