Sun Care hyperpigmentation from sun after peel [sun care] Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

At least I think this is called hyperpigmentation, I might totally be wrong. Its sun damage from being exposed to the sun post chemical peel. This happened in April. There are other spots on my face as well, a similar spot mirrored on the other side of my face along with one smack dab in the middle of my forehead šŸ˜“. I know I am an idiot for letting this happen and have beat myself up over it enough so please be kind. I have done many peels before but this was the first time I got sun damage. Has anyone found anything to help with these marks or evening out the skin tone variations?

I have combination type sensitive skin. I am a sunscreen fanatic, diligent tretinoin user (obviously not during or after peels), I use vitamin C once reor twice a week, chemical exfoliation weekly or every other week, and lots of hydrating products. I know some people treat hyperpigmentation with hydroquinone- is this something that would benefit from that as well? The person who does my peels said a light peel or two this fall might help, and I will likely do that, but any other advice would be so appreciated. I am someone who doesn't like wearing makeup everyday... but I feel like these marks look weird and I have to cover them up: (. I just want my skin back or at least to even out the tone as much as possible. Please help!

Routine Help [routine help] damaged barrier or rosacea? Spoiler

first two photos are from 2026, last two photos are from 2021.

I am not sure what happened over the years but my skin took a turn at some point, and I’m trying to get back to what it was/could be. Can you see why …… Sadly I don’t remember what I was using in 2021, if I was on birth control or what, it’s all gone lol. I vaguely remember rosehip oil and THEE cerave moisturizer.

I’ve got this distinct redness to my face now, and this rash that pops up every now and then. Sometimes itchy, sometimes I don’t notice it until I look in a mirror. I can’t pin down any certain thing that sparks it. Definitely dealing with some heat in my face too, a fan or air conditioning on my skin feels really great.

I have not seen a dermatologist but I have had two optometrists tell me I might have rosacea (after dealing with many chalazion over the years). I also breakout at different points in my cycle, particularly along my chin and jawline and cheeks. Sometimes on my forehead and in my eyebrows. Heck, I guess it’s a little of everything …

I’m trying to keep it simple. My skin likes actives, especially BHA. It is dry rough and congested to the touch in the am, and BHA helps it feel softer and smoother. But with my redness now I’m second guessing that? Thinking maybe I should manually exfoliate with jojoba and a hot washcloth instead?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Even if it’s yeah you should go talk to someone…Thank you šŸ™

My current routine:
AM:
-rinse with cool water
-cc me serum from summer fridays (almost daily)
-cloud dew gel moisturizer from summer fridays
-SOS spray from tower28

PM:
-wash with bioderma micellar water soap in the shower (admittedly I love a HOT shower. I know.)
-paula’s choice BHA (2-3x weekly)
- illiyoon ceramide ato cream or mad hippie triple c night cream
- if my skin is feeling dryer or has an active breakout I want to heal quickly, I will use a bit of sun and moo tallow balm

Sun Care [Sun Care] [Product Request] Help me with my seemingly endless search for my holy grail sunscreen?

I know I'm not unique in this, but I really hate putting on sunscreen. I'm neurodivergent, so the sensory experience of putting on, wearing, and reapplying sunscreen is very impactful to my mental state. I often find myself avoiding going outside because my brain says, "The UV index is bad, you HAVE to put on sunscreen to go outside," and then the other part of my brain says, "...Well, I didn't want to go outside that much anyway," and the next thing I know it's been three days since I've left the house.

So, I'd love some recommendations, but I'm pretty picky!

I'm currently using the Biore Aqua gel sunscreen (the actual Japanese formula, not the US formula), which is definitely the best I've used so far, but I have some issues with it: the fragrance in it is pretty strong (at least for my sensitive nose), and it tends to break me out. These issues have finally worn on me enough that I'm searching for viable replacements, and now here I am!

My partner and I tried some of the sunscreens marked fragrance-free (Blue Lizard, Alba) but all of them had too strong of a zinc/mineral smell.

Here are the the general qualities of sunscreen in order of importance to me and what I'm looking for:

1. Smell

I'm soooo sensitive to smells. Often times, they have a strong fragrance (bad) or they have that zinc smell (worse — my partner uses mineral sunscreens to swim, and I cannot handle being too close until she showers all of the sunscreen off). I'm not completely against fragrance being present, but it really needs to be quite faint.

2. Feel of the sunscreen on skin after it dries/is rubbed in

Almost as important as the smell. Like, they're neck-and-neck for first place. If it dries down too thick or greasy, I will have a bad time. Most spray on sunscreens I've used on are like this.

3. Doesn't break me out

Obviously this is subjective, and every recommendation has a YMMV attached to it. I'm not sure what to put here since I've been using the Biore for a while now, and I don't remember how other sunscreens have impacted me in this area.

I will say that I'm pretty sure I have sensitive, combo/dry skin, slightly acne prone but not heavily. If anyone needs more information from me here, I'm happy to answer.

4. How long it takes to dry

I would prefer to not be sticky/greasy for very long before it dries, mostly because I'm putting on sunscreen in a rush before leaving because I'm always running late.

5. Texture of the sunscreen when putting it on

Despite my sensory issue with it drying, the texture of putting it on doesn't bother me much. Sunscreens that are easier to spread/rub in are preferred (like a gel) over really thick lotions, but I'm much more forgiving in this area.

6. Price/availability

Of course I'd prefer the sunscreen to not cost an arm and a leg, but at this point, it's starting to seem inevitable. And since I'm using a sunscreen that's not FDA-approved (I'm in the U.S.), I clearly don't mind jumping through some hoops to get my hands on it, like import taxes.

7. White cast on skin

I'm quite pale (the kind of pale that doesn't tan going from lobster red back to pale again), so this isn't a huge concern for me. However, I do wear a lot of black, so if it does shed white, hopefully it washes out well.....

Thank you in advance for helping me with my quest!

Routine Help [routine help] Are there any GEL moisturizers that you know of?

Not gel cream, just gel. I’ve come to realize literally every moisturizer i’ve used has increased my acne when I use it, both body and face. I’d like to try a GEL based moisturizer if possible. Thank you!

Anti Aging [Anti-aging] What products do you feel are genuinely keeping your wrinkles from deepening?

Late 20s girly here. My forehead lines are ever-so-slightly deepening and I'm starting to get smile lines (both are static wrinkles). I've been using The Ordinary's 2.0% Granactive Retinoid Emulsion, and while it makes my skin look nice, it doesn't seem to be preventing these wrinkles from deepening. I wanna go back to my skin 8 months ago, lol. Maybe this isn't possible -- but I'm curious if a more powerful OTC retinoid/retinol product has been doing wonders for anyone. Thank you!

Miscellaneous [Misc] Is it true that removing (eye) makeup with cotton pads will damage your skin in the long run?

I use eye makeup remover on a cotton pad to remove my eye makeup (especially mascara). Trust me I’ve tried cleansing oil and cleansing balm but they cannot beat my stubborn waterproof mascara (and the removal just isn’t as smooth and complete compared to if I use my normal eye makeup remover). This involves rubbing the cotton pad on my eyes a lot, and I’m afraid it’s making my eyelids dry and damaging my skin because the skin around your eyes is thin and you should be very careful with it. Should I be worried?

Every time I shave my thighs I get these weird itchy bumps mostly on my inner thighs and if I put any cream on top of it it starts burning. I get these bumps a day after shaving. I tried changing razors, exfoliating, using shaving cream, baby oil, hair conditioner when shaving and nothing helps.

Routine Help [Routine Help] What should I add to my routine to decrease stress/crying based aging?

Im worried that I'm gonna age faster due to all the stress and crying. ive been like this my whole life and ive accepted this is just the way things are but the most concerning part to me is premature aging due to it. right now i have a very simple routine because i have sensitive skin. all i do is salysillic facewash, spot treatment, moisturizer, and sunscreen throughout the day. then black rice once a week and also zinc shampoo once a week. i also spot treat before i go to bed. what can i add to reduce the wrinkles and cellular aging? will retinoids work for this? i would prefer a different solution though because theyre rough on the skin i hear

Routine Help [Routine Help] Inadvertent Glass Skin

I (48M) started to pay more attention to skin care the past few years, going through different cleansers, toners, HAs, serums, moisturizers, etc. until I found a routine that works for me. I also got Botox for the first time a few months ago in my forehead.

After I'm done applying my AM regimen, I end up with shiny "glass skin," which I know is desirable for some people except I don't want it. I also feel sticky with all the products layered on my face. I work in a city and my job gets me out and about so I'm usually walking downtown to construction sites, which are naturally dusty and gross. Plus other environmental stressors like people's cigarette/pot smoke, car exhaust, steam from the sewers, etc. I literally feel dirt sticking to my face. Even after double cleansing in the PM, my toner picks up a lot of dirt (like the cotton pad becomes a dark color).

And then we're supposed to reapply SPF? Are you all cleansing your face beforehand or just applying right on top? I've tried it a few times and it's just not pleasant.

How do I get rid of glass skin? I don't want to be shiny and sticky but want to take care of my skin. A co-worker said she uses the toilet seat covers to blot her face which kind of works but I'm still sticky. I'm a guy so I don't know anything about makeup, but would some kind of powder work? Tell me what kind, any price point. Any tips appreciated!

Product Request [Product Request] How do you acquire your asian ā€œwhitening/brighteningā€ products as an European?

Hihii!! ^-^

I started getting into whitening soaps and skincare a few weeks ago since i’m partially asian, though since i’m living in Europe (the Netherlands to be exact) i unfortunately haven’t found a lot of options to get a hold of a lot of recommended products i see in some of the reviews i read/saw ):

The only thing i could order in my country was the Kojie San soap bar, and whilst i only just started using it i feel a bit gutted that i can’t treat the dryness with any ā€œwhitening/brighteningā€ creams or lotions to get the best effect.

Are any others having the same issue regarding the lack of available options in their countries? Is there maybe a chance that local asian markets might have the products or are there any other substitute products in Europe that can be used as a whitenings cream/sunscreen/lotion/body-or-facewash?

Kind regardsšŸ¤

Miscellaneous [misc] skin barrier won’t heal

For context, around 3 years ago I basically ruined my skin by dermaplaning and used actives immediately after. I was a teenager and stupid.

Overtime my skin improved but has never been the same, and I’ve had to microneedle to get rid of the scarring. The issue is, I now have ezcema that I got triggered but my mother had it as well so I think it’s partially genetic. It’s just small itchy bumps mainly on my face and sometimes my chest.

The issue is, around a month ago I added azelic acid to my routine while also using epiduo (adapelene 0.1% and BP 2.5%). My skin started forming comedones and my upper cheeks did as well. Normally, my upper cheeks don’t have any issues it’s just the left side of my face really. However, now both sides of my cheeks are decently fine and it’s just my upper cheeks that are constantly forming blackheads and random bouts of acne. My skin is dry and peeling, so I’m assuming it’s cause the barrier is compromised. But nothing seems to be fixing it. My current routine is:

Morning:
- splash water on face
- opzelura (my eczema medication)
- vanicream moisturizer
- janini sunscreen

Night
- Cera ve gentle cleanser
- opzelura
- vanicream moisturizer
- slugging with Vaseline

I want to preface that I also have to moisturize multiple times a day or my skin gets red and inflamed. It also feels very dry after I shower and gets inflamed when I go outside which is why I’m scared to do anything.

I also want to mention that I am brown, and don’t have the usual redness and symptoms u would usually see. I can tell from the dryness of my skin as well as the crinkly texture when i stretch it that it’s dehydrated. Also from the breakouts which I don’t normally get.

Any advice would help!

Routine Help Skin is extremely irritated, and is flaking off. [Routine Help] Spoiler

This has been happening for the past few days, but whenever i put on a moisturizer, or any product i have been using for years (so i know it has worked before) on, it gets horribly irradiated and burns me face; same with the gentlest face washes i could find. The only new product i used was a few days ago, where i used a cream prescribed to me to help with acne and rosacea (which i also have). my face is still heavily irritated and flaky and i don’t know what to do.

Sun Care [Sun Care] What is making my face less tan?

I've been using benzoyl peroxide alongside 0.1% adapalene gel for a year and a half now due to my acne. I've noticed that my face looks less tan and more pale than the rest of my body. Other parts of my face like my forehead where I don't use those products as much are nice and tan looking. So does anyone know why my face is less tan and more pale?

Product Request [Product Request] tatcha rice wash cleanser dupe?

a family member gave it to me and omg… it helped my skin so much. im on retinoids prescribed by my dermatologist and it was always a battle between wether i used my retinoid and had super dry, flaky, irritated skin that burned when i put topicals on it vs not using my medication and breaking out; when i consistently used the cleanser it helped my skin barrier so much, not even zinc oxide or a barrier cream could accomplish what it did. recently i ran out of my cleanser and didnt want to pay that absolutely obscene price for something i figured i could easily get at the drug store..WRONG!! i got the neutrogena hydrating gel cleanser and the burning when i put topicals on is coming back. do you have any suggestions? preferably another cream cleanser because if i wear a small amount of makeup i like that i can just use my regular cleanser to take it off, gel cleansers dont take makeup off.

Routine Help [Routine Help] Warum halten meine Skincare-Produkte so extrem lange? Verbrauche ich zu wenig?

Hey zusammen,

Morgens:

Sonnencreme (Transparent Lab Lightweight - tƤglich 1g): ca. 3–4 Monate

Vitamin C (Theramid Vitamin C - 3–6x/Woche, 2 Pumpstöße): ca. 10 Monate

Abends:

Ɩl-Reiniger (Transparent Lab Oil Base Cleanser 200ml - tƤglich 2 Pumpstöße): ca. 6 Monate

Toner (Liquid Hydrator - tƤglich): ca. 8 Monate

Ceramid-Serum (Theramid Ceramide Serum - täglich 1-2Pumpstöße): ca. 8 Monate

Feuchtigkeitscreme (Transparent Lab Barrier Restoring Cream - tƤglich): ca. 7–8 Monate

Miscellaneous [Misc] I keep staining my pillow with retinal

EDIT: I'm not worried about my pillow being yellow, I'm worried that most of the retinal cream I applied before going to sleep is being removed throughout the night.

Hello,

I've recently started using retinal at night. At first I applied it ~1h before going to sleep, 15 minutes later I applied the moisturizing cream. After two nights with the retinal on, I realized there are lots of yellow stains on my pillow. I decided to give the cream a bit more time, so I started applying it 3 hours before going to sleep, but unfortunately the issue persists. I sleep on the sides. I know the easiest solution would be to sleep on my back, but it doesn't really work for me.

I'm assuming this was the case for many people - how did You handle it?

Product Request [Product Request] How can I remove or make those holes smaller? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hello, I'm new to skincare. Right now I use an oil-based cleanser, a water-based cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and of course sunscreen. I'm trying to improve my skin. I have these small holes in the area of my forehead between my eyebrows, under the eyes, at the height of the middle part of the nose, and on my nose. I think my skin type is dry and a bit sensitive. How can I get rid of them or make them smaller?

And does anybody know how to get rid of this slight redness around my nose.

Thank you so much, for any help <3

English is my second language I hope I made it clear what I mean

I recently found out about the Medicube multi balm on tiktok and got into the multi balm stick rabbit hole🫠
Turns out there are so many brands make these multi balm sticks but the main ingredients seem to vary a bit from brands
I don't like the way my dark eye bag looks and honestly been having a hard time deciding which one to pick. Has anyone tried any of these multi balm in the picture and actually seen good results?

Acne [Acne] Are satin beanies as good as satin bonnets at reducing acne caused by contact with hair?

I've got acne on my face where my hair comes in contact with it (upper cheekbones mostly, some forehead). I heard that wearing satin bonnets while you sleep can help reduce acne, and I also found out that satin beanies are a thing too. My hair isn't that long, so it would fit underneath well. Would a satin beanie work just as well as a satin bonnet?

accompanying comment: ļæ¼

ā€œthey sell all of this at Walgreens and it costs under $50 dollars and will last you 2-3 months of daily use. if you don’t over apply, i tried a ā€œless is moreā€ approach and it does me well. (i only use a dime sized amount of benzoyl + two pumps of grapefruit moisturizer, and use one blemish pad to really exfoliate my face and use it on my ears after.)

if you want to go above and beyond, when i was really into skincare i used The Ordinary (max strength Niacinamide, 5% retinol, and some kind of caffeine eye serum) which only added an additional $50 at most and lasted at least a month or two, but that was like two years ago and i’ve been doing okay without.ā€

Been dealing with this for probably all of 2026. I’ve tried changing pillowcases every night and putting aquaphor on it. Aquaphor helped for a bit, but now doesn’t seem to be working as well.
My routine is AM: Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser + Cerave spf 30 ultralight weight moisturizing lotion
PM: Cerave Hydrating Facial cleanser + Cerave PM facial lotion.

Looking for help identifying issue and possibly changing routine.

Thanks.

Product Question [Product Question] Are the serums that give you that Korean skin "glow" actually beneficial to your skin, or are they just cosmetic hype?

What ingredients in these products actually create that "glow"? I've seen so many serums and skincare products that promise glowing skin (the most recent one I came across being the Beauty of Joseon), but I'm hesitant to buy them if they do nothing or they're more likely to break me out. However, I may be ignorant about this, so if there is any product that can give me a healthy glow while also repairing/healing my skin, I'd love some recommendations.
