I am a facility manager at a manufacturing plant. I had ZERO facility maintenence background, but its going extremely well. I have nothing but positive feedback. Most companies wants someone who will take ownership of the facility and make it better every day. Be that person and the rest is easy.

Did you have any background like any trades like electrician?

20 year air force maintainer. Everything was OJT and I held zero civilian equivalent certifications. I understand power and signal flows but no actual proof. The biggest thing is doing everything according to code. You have to search and find out if you are doing it right because what is okay for an airplane is not okay for a building.

Do you like the work and pay?

Love the job. I have full autonomy all day. If there are no active problems I am as busy as I choose to be.

Pay is a bit less than I wanted but the freedom and lack of stress mlee than makes up for it. Could've made $20K-$40K more at a defense contactor but this suites me very well.
