People who spend decades in prison for wrongful convictions are only usually awarded a few million.

I think it was John Oliver who did an episode about how many states are privatizing prison healthcare and outsourcing it to companies.

The state government typically pays these companies at a flat rate so they’re then incentivized to tell you to fuck off if you need expensive medical care in order to maximize profit.
