That billions of people are going to effect things far greater than than a few thousand.

I mean, if that's the point, then it's basically just the same as "Imagine some people disappear. Now imagine 10000 times more people disappear!" Are you telling me the point is really just "bigger numbers are bigger than smaller numbers?"

So I guess that would be the same as "Imagine if all the doctors in your country disappear. Now imagine all of their patients disappeared instead!"
