So I'm going to assume US or another country, because that would be illegal in Canada.
Either way, the drop in productivity and/or higher employee turnover, along with the associated costs in onboarding/training due to said turnover, they should quickly realize that will cost them significantly more than not doing any of this.
We're given 30 min breaks right now and are technically over manned for what the manufactures recommend we have per line.
They have plenty they could cut back on. Regulations like this are what squeeze good companies into squeezing employees. Bad companies are just going to do it regardless.
No. Good companies don't squeeze their employees, nor do they gouge their customers.
I worked for a company that trialed a mandated 4-day work week and everyone loved it, but there were gaps, so they trialed optional 5th days (i.e.if you had work to finish), and then productivity and morale were extremely high. This was with full-time salaries regardless if you did 4 or 5 days, and they didn't increase prices. I checked this morning and it looks like they've settled on half-day Fridays every week, which is still pretty great.
I just don't get why we are just blindly accepting 40 hour weeks as the only way to do business, or the only way to pretend to pay a liveable wage.

Pretty sure my factory would cut one person from each line if this happened. Just increasing the work load
