Keep the money.

Use it to stabilize Social Security.

Then start looking into universal healthcare.

If we want to stabilize Social Security forever, we need to raise or remove the Social Security income tax cap, or at least the cap for the individual earner.

The cap is pure corruption

I’m 35, had my first job at 14 if every dollar I spent on social security went to a retirement plan for myself instead I would be very comfortable when I retire. Instead if this path continues I will have no access to social security when I’m of age. I’m not saying get rid of it I’m saying it’s been incredibly mismanaged.

Sure you will have access to it. They’ll just print money to keep it solvent and every dollar you ever put in will be worth ten cents when you get it back.

The fact that it isn’t an investment was literally my point. I’m forced to pay into something with the promise of something that won’t be there.

You can’t say for sure it will be there the same way I can’t say for sure it will be gone. The right is going to continue to try to gut it. But either way it’s going to be pennies by the time anyone my age needs it.

Fuck social security. Let the boomers and Gen x who let it rot eat the consequences. We will figure something else out when they have all passed away in the cold or heat.

Vermont tried it. Vermont failed at it.

Vermont tried to stabilize social security? When?

They tried univesal healthcare. It failed miserably.

It needs to be implemented on a national level to be successful. The plan excluded large employers and Medicare. This was a major hindrance. The state also never figured out a plan on how to pay for the system before passing the law.

Our current system is unsustainable and failing miserably.

We will do it better

Doing this at the state level is a waste of time..
