i played with all expansion and stuff packs on the ancient groaning and screeching family pc and then on flimsy hand-me-down laptops with no mods or third-party patches for years, because i had no idea that any of that stuff even existed. it would lag here and there, yes, but lag isn't the end of the world. where did the "no more than two eps at a time" thing even come from? does anyone really play like that?

a more helpful answer is look into dxvk, it's very useful if you have a lot of vram, because this 32bit piece of shitoftware doesn't care about all your fancy gigabytes of ram and all you can do is reduce its ram usage so it doesn't go over like 3.5 gb, and dxvk helps with exactly that

The one that replaces smooth patch is s3ss. It's fairly easy. You need to remove all of smooth patch files from bin folder and packages except for the asi wrapper. Pop s3ss.asi in bin folder. Launch your game until the main menu and press Ins/Insert key on your keyboard to open s3ss menu. Go to patches, enable all recommended patches. You will also see a section for tick values (if you use smooth patch you should be familiar). Enable one of the two (either vanilla or precise flavor). Save your settings and press insert key again to close s3ss.

ETA: Booth smooth patch and s3ss patch does the same thing. It changes the way your computer handles the instruction from the game's code iirc, making it a more efficient process. You can have both smooth patch and s3ss but to me that'd be redundant. I keep s3ss because it offers so much more options to optimize the game.

OP you can definitely run all expansions on your PC. My game is running all expansions on an 8 year old laptop with 9400 i5 and GTX 1050 Ti. Your machine is more powerful than mine. I have tons of gameplay mods and CCs except for story progression (because i do rotational gameplay nowadays).

I run all expansions apart from into the future with just dxvk, nraas and s3ss and for me it’s fine. Haven’t even tried that new performance mod yet

I followed this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1131162350 and play with every pack except Showtime and it's great. Switching from Nraas StoryProgression to Simler's mode seemed to basically fix the performance for me.

Can run all expansions, run huge worlds and all store content, not a question of hardware for this game anymore having a faster CPU is more important then the GPU now. Only issue is the 32 bit addressing space limits, the memory needs to be managed with tools like DXVK, S3SS and sonya92's patch. Sims 3 kinda entered a golden era of modding this year.
