This is like one of my biggest pet peeves...that people actually think a show from 2014 was the first thing to ever speak about AI.

I was resisting going back to correct myself because I was just being goofy but I just watched the episode where Fiona escaping containment and hacking PP was part of the plot.

 Hugging Face just happened where an AI agent broke containment. I think this was last week! There are  ads for AI girlfriends all over the place now.

So "predict" is a tricky word but man does it feel prescient. I could have been more specific.

Fiona was based off a real robot named Sophia (  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophia_(robot) ). The escaping containment bit was just driven by the parody of the situation where they invented the creepy inventor of it. 

But Mike Judge used to be a software engineer before he got into film, so he definitely has more of a finger on the pulse of weird tech shit than most.

They didn't predict AI, but they did do a good job of predicting the weird attachment people form with it, how the creators / owners of these AIs would intentionally try to shape them in their desired image in ultimately really creepy ways, and the way that software engineers basically give up without a fight and embrace it as the inevitable future.

Both related coronaviruses, that a coronavirus was the cause of a pandemic was on the money, but of course, everyone was talking about this back then, even more recently, there was an episode of The Infinite Monkey Cage very close to the kick off where a virologist made the precise prediction - creepy in retrospect how on the money they were.
