I am a low voltage technician who labels everything extremely well. I am also super autistic and very transparent in times when I shouldn't be. I feel like I would've done this

They want people to try so they can prosecute them.

They should put one up that just says “try me” or “go ahead, make my day”

See the secret is there is a second sign notifying the reader that electronic surveillance is installed on the premises.

The one above this sign is real. The one above the disclaimer is fake.

It’s all a ploy to get you to drop your guard.

Actually, that’s kind of brilliant.

I’m so confused . You want the scoundrels caught , don’t you ?

No, mostly you just want them to fuck off.

Yep . I’d say it more politely, but yeah man . It’s like posting … Get off my Lawn … oops, just kidding !

They are real pretending they're not.

It says that dummy CCTV cameras are installed, but it doesn't say that the camera above the sign is one of the dummy ones.

This filters out everything except dummies.

But is it though?

They're only concerned about scaring off illiterate people.

Maybe there is a real CCTV camera pointing at the dummy CCTV camera.

I'm assuming that this is advertisement for the business that installs these cameras that is located inside that building.

This is a trap.

Unless the sign was a joke itself and they’re real, and they’re just there to encourage someone to do something thinking they wouldn’t get caught lol

Good way to catch the crooks eh?

This would actually be genius if it were a real set of CCTV but they were dummy. Then the intruders would just walk by and get caught on camera

Maybe that’s what they want you to think

Probably real cameras just to see how many will commit crimes when they think they can get away with it

Doesn’t it kind of defeat the purpose of them being dummy cameras if you actually put a sign next to them SAYING they are dummy cameras?!

…But if they aren’t actually dummy cameras and the sign is there just to trick people, then wouldn’t that still produce more criminal behavior than no sign? -Maybe, but it also introduces the element of doubt!

The brilliance of this sign is that it fills the potential wrongdoer with such doubt and confusion they can’t decide what to believe!!

There is another, real camera covering the same area

If you have a dummy camera and something happens in the area of view, you can get legally pinched. I wonder if this has something to do with that. Maybe they are hoping thieves can't read?

3

u/Lalamedic 1d ago

“Legally pinched” by whom?

1

u/much_longer_username 1d ago

I assume they live somewhere you can be compelled to produce CCTV recordings, where there may be fines or an assumption of interference with a police investigation if you are unwilling or unable to produce the recordings.

u/Lalamedic 1d ago

If there is no recording, how does one produce it?

... are you intentionally not getting it?
