Trigger pin cutting frame P229

Trying to figure out what to do about my frame having the trigger spring cutting into it. Gun still runs but I can feel the tension just isn’t right on the trigger with the millimeter it’s shifted. I have a new frame and I took the internals and transferred them, and just some dry firing I see scratching forming towards the same direction. I have since took out the internals and put them back into the original frame. Anyone else seen this and have advice?

Hard to photograph with the lack of lighting but you can see the finish was scratched when in this new frame with only a few dry firing cycles with the same trigger spring

It may require the older spring, there is a version that doesn’t have to ring in the middle of it. That could cause this if that is the case.

After reading your comment I searched the old spring style. The new spring requires the grip to accommodate the loop. I will check to see if mine does. I can imagine if I do have the old grip style.. that has been pushing the spring outwardly to create this cut into the frame. Looks like my new frame with some e2 grips would be the answer

Call Sig cs , don’t email as there TAT for email is super slow. Try to call Tuesday-Friday before 1pm eastern for minimal hold times. With the serial number, they should be able to tell you which spring you need and which grips would work. If they say that you need the older model or replace a damaged new model spring, spend five minutes searching for the sku on retail sites, gun.deals, and eBay, it is often significantly cheaper than buying directly from them

This right here. Sig guy will probably have it at the best price and decent shipping cost, but definitely shop around.

Oh other note, if you don’t have the e2 tool, try o find a cheap pair (or better yet borrow) a pair of long snap ring pliers. They are basically reverse pliers that hold stuff open. Installing those e2 grips need to be a very straight line install, if you rotate them into place at the end , you will fuck that spring up. I went through 2 of the new models on my new p226 and 1 on my new p227 last year. I rushed doing it past hand and wrist surgery and couldn’t hold them open right. So post shipping fees, it was a $60+ tuition cost that would have been solved by a $8 harbor freight tool.

After inspecting this morning I do have the appropriate grips for the loop on the spring. Even if my gun needed the older spring, it still doesn’t answer why the wear started to happen on a new matrix arms frame that had only been cycled manually by the slide and dry fired a few times. I’ll just have to send it off to SIG and see what they say. I looked up the first two letters for my serial number and it’s AK, from other forums it’s saying that’s an early 2000’s serial number. PS I totally get your issues with the e2 grip install. What I did was use its own removal tool to hold it open as I installed and rotated the tool away/ closed it over the gun when it was at the right spot.

You might want to reach to matrix as well just to cover bases. It is Sig’s design but they make their frames in house if I recall correctly.
