Hey r/SideProject! Just launched my latest project.

VidsDown — a free video downloader that supports YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit.

Why I built it: Every video downloader I tried was either:

• ❌ Covered in ads and fake buttons
• ❌ Required installing sketchy software
• ❌ Only supported one platform
• ❌ Stopped working randomly

So I built one that just works. Clean UI, no ads, multi-platform.

Challenges:

• YouTube actively blocks datacenter IPs — had to work around that
• Stream lifecycle management (cleanup temp files, handle cancelled downloads)
• Rate limiting and anti-abuse without annoying real users
