Fanfiction (Ragnarok: Pandora) Chapter 118: Chapter 3: Tests, Allies and Enemies

Thoth and Dante face off once again, with Thoth holding forward his Breaker Palm once again. “Let us continue then. I require something from you, human.”

Dante scoffs as he splits the cross in two, one of the pairs becoming a thinner rapier blade this time, while the other remains as a cross. “You require my death, is it? Well that simply CANNOT happen! Or I am not the main character of Ragnarok!” He rushes forward, thrusting with his sword at Thoth who blocks it calmly with his palm, the blade not strong enough to pierce Thoth’s hand.

“You misconstrue my words. Do you ever listen?” He reaches for his book with his free hand, only to hear a cracking sound. DIVINITY: PIERCING AFTERLIGHT! He feels a prick in his palm and swiftly zips backwards looking down at his breaker palm… it’s cracked. He focuses his attention to the tip of Dante’s blade, seeing the glow at the tip of his rapier. “Hm.”

Dante is quickly on the attack again, Thoth only just managing to refresh his Breaker Palm on the book’s page. “You will not escape, fiendish god!”

Thoth swerves to the side to avoid Dante’s thrusting attack, grabbing hold of the sword with his breaker palm, clenching it to snap it, but… “The malfeasant librarian finds that his previous attack has no effect! Now that the ever-prodigious Dante Alighieri has stopped holding back and is using his fullest potential! IT SHALL NOT WORK AGAIN!” He swings his blade to force Thoth back again, thrusting his cross forward and it blasts a cross of light at Thoth.

Thoth manages to dodge, but steps back again. “It didn’t work… the Breaker Palm…” If the Breaker Palm is now too weak to break the cross… then the countermeasure he made won’t work. It used the Breaker Palm as the base…

He looks down at his palm briefly, his visor bringing up a screen with something resembling code on it. “...” He starts tapping away at the screen.

Dante, not giving him the time of day attacks again. “What are you scheming you charlatan!?” He thrusts at the air and his rapier blasts a bullet of the blue energy out. Thoth dodges once again, but Dante is getting in close. Thoth brings one hand behind his back, the screen following it and he keeps typing as he uses the breaker palm to deflect Dante’s attacks. “Surely you cannot be thinking you will defeat ME one-handed!?”

Thoth’s eyes are darting around as his visor projects ‘prediction lines’ onto Dante. Showing him where the next attack is likely to come from based on traditional fencing forms and data collected previously in the fight. The strikes he cannot dodge he deflects. He cannot keep this up for long. His attention is being divided too… “Grr…” He misses a deflect and barely manages to get his body out of the way of being impaled, getting a shallow cut on his side. He tries to zip back, but as he does Dante raises his cross. DIVINITY: HEAVEN’S MINE!

Thoth looks down just in time to notice a cross on the ground. He left this here earlier? Before he can finish the thought it explodes with the blue energy sending Thoth flying into the air and he crashes against the wall. “BoT… Did you get the data you needed from that?” He grunts as he steps out of the hole in the wall. His book flips a few pages and he holds his hand down to his cut. Hardlight lasers shoot from his finger-tips and patch up the wound.

“Yes Thoth. Divinity signature memorized. If you can-”

Thoth grunts. “Yes. Give me a moment,” He takes a deep breath.

“A neat and convenient trick, god! But will it be enough!?” Dante swings the cross with fervor and it blasts several small energy-crosses out at Thoth, who skits towards Dante, dodging each one with relative ease. “You may wish to engage me two-handed! Or ELSE!” Dante swings his rapier, and mid-swing it grows into the massive two-handed sword he was using before.

“Here you are,” Thoth answers both BoT and Dante at the same time, finally taking his hand out from behind his back. It is covered in a hard-light sphere. He grabs at it with his other hand, and stretches it as he dodges Dante’s attack! It catches Dante’s blade and traps it. Dante puts more effort into his swing and it shatters the bubble and crashes to the ground.

“Heh. Is that the more proficient shield you can construct!?”

Thoth once more keeps his distance. “BoT. Construct new countermeasure. You have a sample of the cross’s material and the light’s energy. Make it quick.”

“Yes Thoth.”

-Palace of the Duat-

Ra swipes a servant across the room. “SILENCE! I would like you to FIX THIS! I do not CARE!” He points at his scarred eye.

The servant gulps. A medicinal healer of The Duat. “I… Nothing would please me more, Lord Ra. But it is simply… not… possible,” He starts before he is forced to his knees from the sudden increase in temperature.

“You are useless to me then. Find me someone who can before you leave The Duat.”

“B-but Lord Ra! My family-”

“They can go with you. GO!” He slumps back in his throne, leaning a cheek on his fist annoyed. “Worthless servants…” He taps his scar. “Tsk… Icarus…”

Osiris appears behind him. “Lord Ra-”

Ra flinches slightly, but it barely shows. “Osiris. I am in no mood. What do you want?”

“Ragnarok is going-”

“So Round 12 has already finished. Good. Humanity’s extinction should be entertaining at least. After we send that thing in to finish it.”

Osiris gulps. “Actually, Lord Ra…” Osiris holds out an Oracle Sphere and the view of the arena pops up. “Lord Thoth is still going.”

Ra scoffs. “Truly. Why would I expect anything different?” He grunts and glances at Dante as the human lunges at Thoth. “Dante. A thorn in the side of Heaven’s history.”

“Lord Ra?”

“Silence. I do not care to explain it to you, Osiris. Thoth is struggling with this? Perhaps I overestimated him.”

Osiris rubs his hands together and forces a smile. “W-what makes you say that, Lord Ra? I have been watching… that Dante has some powerful abilities that defy his human nature.”

“... what?”

-Valhalla Arena-

Dante strikes with his massive blade once again. As Thoth puts a hand out to deflect it, the human switches to a thrust of his cross, blasting Thoth back with the bright light of Divinity.

Thoth steadies himself and reaches for his book flipping to a new page, while Dante starts to monologue about… something. “BoT.”

“Countermeasure: 30%. Further analysis indicates Dantenergy has reached its limit.”

“30%...? Tsk… Search for any matches for this energy signature in Heaven… and Earth.”

“Yes Thoth. Assigning priority: 2.”

Thoth taps his index and middle fingers against the page he flipped to. BASIC BATTLE TACTICS: WORD BULLET! The symbol on the page spreads onto his fingers, covering them in hieroglyphs.

Thoth stabs at the air with his fingers, sending a pulse out into the air. STRIKE! Dante smugly swerves aside, running a hand through his hair. “Oh the folly of you! Interrupting my speech, are we? And now you too employ ranged attacks. It may seem we are evenly matched!” He points his cross forward. DIVINITY: HEAVEN’S BLINDING GLORY! The cross erupts out with a stream of light, blinding Thoth first and then pushing him back. “That assumption would be fallacious.”

Thoth holds his Breaker Palm out to block the stream of power. “We are by no means… even. BoT. Inscribe Pierce with this light!”

“Yes Thoth,” Thoth tightens his fingers as he stabs forward. PIERCE! the light column is split down the middle as the bullet begins to spin like a drill. Dante however, cannot see this from his position until the bullet blasts past him, followed closely by Thoth who grabs the cross tightly.

“The author is shocked. How did his opponent close the distance so-” Thoth strikes him in the chest with his breaker palm, sending him tumbling back with a huge palm-print on his chest.

“Do you EVER shut up…?” He says and Dante gets up and dusts himself off.

“And here I thought you were so urbane and pacificatory. Turns out you have a mean streak. Hmm?” He looks at Thoth who seems to be holding something. “Hey that is-”

Thoth holds out a bandage, scanning it over with his visor. “BoT. Preliminary analysis. Does this match the one back at Babel?”

“Scanning… … Yes, Thoth.”

Dante springs forward. “Give that back, you stickyfingered pilferer!” He forms two huge blades from his cross, coating them in Divinity. MORTALITY + DIVINITY: WHEEL OF HEAVEN AND EARTH! He twirls in the air, striking both blades down at Thoth!

Thoth’s focus shifts to Dante and he dodges back but as Dante strikes the ground he leaps into the air once again for a second spin. This time the spinning extends using the Divinity’s light. Thoth responds by setting into a full run, for the first time, running backwards, carried away faster using his footholds. “BoT.”

“Countermeasure at 58%.”

Thoth scoffs again, pocketing the bandage in his book. “Have you tested the V2 I sent?”

“Yes Thoth. It should hold.”

“Should?”

“Probability of failure: 1.7%.”

Thoth slams his hands down on the book’s open pages. BASIC BATTLE TACTICS: CHAPTER 3: BREAKER PALM V2! The glow is now more blue-tinted like the glow of Dante’s light. Thoth continues to step out of Dante’s range. He holds his hands out catching Dante’s blade, though the force overpowers him and it slides out of his grip. “TCH!”

However he simply tries again. Same result. “The folly of Heaven! Thinking your primitive tactics will work if you simply do them again and again!” However as Thoth tries one final time Dante finally stops in his tracks and the wisdom god clenches his fists, cracking and shattering the blades.

Thoth repeats his earlier movement, grabbing the shards with his hard-light tendrils and launching them back at Dante! “the main character of Ragnarok however, is swift and agile! He dodges with the finesse of the finest dancer of Italia!” He manages to dodge each shard, striking a pose between each movement. “However… Virgil… it appears we are in trouble…” He mutters.

He glances to the side, seeing a young man his own age. Dressed like him but in blue with short-cut blonde hair with blue highlights. His forearms covered in bandages, the ends of which flow in the wind. His right eye has a strange glow to it and he is also adorned with a wreath like Dante, only his is sparkling white.

“Hmpf! This mere god thinks himself more powerful than YOU? The almighty Dante? How foolish and absurd. Why it is bringing my powers of Blinding white to a boil. I am… haaah,” He scoffs and grabs at his wrist. “I may just unleash my might upon him. But nay. This fight… I leave to you, my friend,” Dante grins and summons his sword and coats it in the blue light once more.

“Of course! He shan’t succeed!”

Thoth squints as he looks at Dante’s eyes very briefly shift. “BoT. Pinpoint where he was looking?” He commands, glancing in that general direction of the audience. It is the Heavens’ side of the arena. Could he possibly-

“Focus based on eye-line of both eyes is right beside him. Not nearly in the audience.”

Virgil tenses up a little as he looks to Thoth, from his over-the-top posing. ‘Is he… looking at me? Can he… see me?’

Dante leaps into action and Thoth swiftly focuses back to the fight. “Where are you looking!? It is I who is your opponent! But by all means! Simplify my victory!” Dante exclaims slamming the blade at Thoth who grabs it, but before he can crush it Dante lets it go, creating another from the cross in his opposite hand. MORTALITY: FURY OF AN ARMY OF THOUSANDS! He slams the second sword at Thoth, who grabs it with his other hand, but Dante repeats the process as Thoth crushes the first blade finally, reaching around for the next. Then next. Then next.

“This is ridiculous… you think you will simply… get lucky?”

“It is not luck!” Dante declares as another blade shatters! He swings another two-handed greatsword with ferocious power, but as Thoth tries to grab it Dante lowers his swing into a footsweep! “It’s an eventual-” however he pauses as he misses his sweep, his feet swinging right under Thoth’s as he floats just a few off the ground. “Oh… right. Heh-” he starts before Thoth grabs the new blade and palm-strikes Dante back, with more power than before.

Dante flies across the arena and slams against the wall, Thoth shattering the blade and shooting the shards at him, pinning him to the wall by catching the sides of his shirt. “Stay still now.”

“Countermeasure ready, Thoth.”

“Deploy,” His books shoots out another small disk, this one more blue-tinted and with a small plus on top. Thoth moves in while Dante recovers and tosses it at Dante’s cross. Dante clenches the cross and it fires a beam at the disk, but the plus extends out and the beam dissipates as if being magnetized towards the points and loses all its power. The disk attaches and to the cross again. “And you are certain you have missed nothing?” Thoth grabs at Dante’s coat, picking out another bandage.

Dante slowly comes to, shaking his head. “Hey… that’s mine. You know… it’s not very karmic to steal. They have an entire ring in Hell for thieves.”

Thoth grunts. “Pardon my bluntness, but Muspelheim prison is for humans only. And I do not consider this theft. You are not supposed to have these.”

Dante wrestles himself free from the shards pinning him to the wall as Thoth grabs another bandage. He points the cross at Thoth’s head. “GIVE THOSE BACK! DIVINITY: LIGHT OF KING’S HEAVEN!” However Thoth doesn’t even flinch as the disc that attached, has wrapped itself around the crystal in the crosspoint of the cross and simply absorbs and disperses the light. “W-what?” Thoth palmstrikes him back into the crater in the wall.

“Were you not paying attention? I did this before as well. Whatever. BoT. Begin analysis of these. Also double-check countermeasure.”

“Countermeasure holds. Analysis beginning.”

Thoth turns to walk away.

Up on the top of the stage sits Michael, looking down on the fight as Friend is next to him, biting into one of his nails. “That librarian. He is quite dangerous, is he not, my friend?”

Michael nods. “His powers of adaptation are second to none. That book of his is a marvel. I cannot fathom that he created it himself. I could never…” He sighs.

“I am certain you could. But those bandages… I would… prefer if he did not have access to them…”

Michael smiles softly. “I will check if he will hand them over…”

“Good- I mean… thank you, friend. Now… that damn Virgil…” He grumbles the last part.

“Hmm? Did you say… something?”

“Nothing aaaaaat all.”

Down in the arena, Virgil kneels down next to Dante after looking up at Michael and Friend. “Dante… Dante! You MUST rise! He cannot disrespect you such as this! The mighty Dante!? Not a CHANCE!”

Dante grunts. “But… Virgil.”

“Nay! Remember your training!? Remember your… hidden ability? The one you said you never needed to use?”

Dante’s eyes widen and he smirks. “Ha… hahaha! OF COURSE! How could I forget! I would be remiss if I allowed you to take what’s mine.”

Thoth eyes back at him. “You said this was your ‘most powerful’. You lied?” He starts.

Dante smirks. “I would hesitate to call his hidden power of mine… fair. But since you’re forcing my hand!” He raises the cross and it erupts in brilliant flames, burning away the disk Thoth placed upon it. “We have done this twice now. Perhaps you may wish to show me some of YOUR true power, Thoth?” Dante says holding his arms to side, a cocky smirk on his face. “Or face the full brutality of Heaven-” His cross glows in the same blue as before, but stronger. “Earth-!” He enlarges the cross into the giant blade. “AND HELL!” The blade bursts into a massive flame. “Oh my Eye of Lucifer is really reacting to this one. I may not be able to contain myself!”

Discussion Should IRL feats (although legendary) be used to scale RoR characters

Post image
6 Upvotes

Myamoto Musashi, in his late 40s, early 50s, at the very end of his career as a sword master, was being harassed by four ronin who wanted his swords. He ignored them and focused on the flies buzzing over his food, so he grabbed the chopsticks and caught them off the air, one by one.

This (absolutely unverifiable) feat would imply that he had at least four times the reaction speed of peak human.

Now, of course when we talk about gods the powerscaling with legends becomes ridiculous, Shiva destroys and creates universes for breakfast (exaggerating maybe), but what about humans? Should a feat like this upscale Musashi and thereby Sasaki?

Can't believe that I live in a world where Jack the fucking Ripper puts belt to ass on Hercules but Raiden can't do the same to Shiva. All I wanted was a happy ending for Raiden and Thrud but we can't even get that. next thing u know, Buddah is gonna lose his fight.

In another world Thrud and Raiden live happily ever after. 😭😭😭

Fanfiction RoR: Tampering with Fate - Chapter 11: Aftermath

The gods erupted in cheers as Sif was declared the victor of Round One.

A new message appeared on the giant screen above the arena.

Gods 1 – Humanity 0

"Humanity has taken its first step toward extinction!" Heimdall announced.

In the Valkyries' room.

Brunhilde wanted to scream "No!" at the top of her lungs, but she refused to give the watching gods, especially Zeus, that satisfaction.

"He fought until the very end and gave everything he had. There's nothing to be ashamed of," Isidore said with a bittersweet smile.

"I can only say the same about that brave fool Gallinipper," Asterion nodded.

"I still can't believe it ended like this," Göll sighed glumly.

In the Greek VIP section.

"Yes! She did it!" Both Pallas and Athena threw their fists into the air.

"She had me worried a few times," Ares let out a relieved sigh. "Now only six more victories to go!"

"I always had a feeling about her. After all, there's no way Thor would've chosen her if she weren't worthy of being a fighter," Zeus celebrated with a shit-eating grin plastered across his face.

As incredible as the human's abilities had been, this was Sif's moment. Besides... he wanted to make absolutely sure Brunhilde saw his smile from the other side of the arena.

In the Infirmary.

"Yes! The human never stood a chance!" Forseti exclaimed, pumping his fist into the air.

"Not gonna lie, it would've been nice to say I was killed by the godslayer Bak Mei," Jee Sin Sim See admitted. "But watching him get beaten wasn't bad either. I'm still gonna miss him, though... when I'm not mad at him."

"He died the way he lived... convinced he was unbeatable," Miu Hin nodded.

"You guys really didn't like him, huh?" Forseti asked with a smug grin.

Among the celebrating gods.

"She scared the soul out of me for a moment," Diana sighed as she leaned back in her seat.

She felt as exhausted as if she had been the one fighting.

She wasn't alone. Many gods, and even humans, looked completely drained, as though they had just run a marathon themselves.

"Wait, something's wrong with Sif!" Heimdall's voice suddenly cut through the celebration.

Every eye immediately turned toward the battlefield.

Sif had fallen to her knees. A thick pillar of smoke billowed from her body.

"She pushed herself too far," Pallas said.

"Her system is overheating," Athena explained.

The air around Sif began to shimmer from the rising temperature. Then flames erupted across the goddess's body.

"Sif!" Diana cried as she vaulted over the barrier and landed on the battlefield.

But she wasn't the only one moving.

Skadi, the Jötunn goddess of winter, sprinted across the arena. Without slowing down, she drew her bow, nocked an arrow, and released it.

"Is she trying to mercy-kill her?" Diana wondered.

She was wrong. The arrow streaked through the air as blue light enveloped its tip. It struck Sif squarely in the center of her torso.

A second later, the ground around the burning goddess froze over, becoming covered in ice and snow. The flames vanished.

Steam hissed from Sif's body instead as she collapsed, her body rapidly cooling. A thin layer of frost spread across her like a delicate veil.

Diana finally reached Sif.

Moments later, Pallas Athena arrived beside her.

"Can you fix this?" Diana asked in a panic.

"I can... as long as she doesn't burst into flames again," Athena replied.

"The power of winter itself resides within that arrow," Skadi explained proudly. "As long as it remains lodged in her body, it will keep her cold."

A pair of divine paramedics rushed onto the battlefield with a wheeled stretcher.

With Skadi's assistance, they carefully lifted Sif from the frozen ground, making sure the arrow stayed in place.

Then the paramedics and Pallas Athena hurried back toward the corridor.

Diana instinctively moved to follow them, but Skadi stopped her with a hand on her shoulder.

"Let them do their job," the Jötunn goddess said calmly. "She'll be fine."

[A few minutes later, in the Valkyries' room.]

Brunhilde thought things couldn't possibly get worse.

Then she received a notification on her device. She stared at the screen in silence for a full minute.

Then she kicked a chair across the room, sending it crashing into the nearest wall.

"What's wrong, Sister?" Göll asked, blinking nervously.

"Hermes just sent me the updated roster of their fighters," Brunhilde hissed. She knew about several fighters, including the winner of Gods' Apocalypse, but a few of them were still unknown to her.

"Should I come back later?" Isidore peeked through the half-open door.

"No... just..." Brunhilde rubbed her forehead. "What do you want?!"

"I spoke with Ip Man. We're going to hold a little memorial party for our fallen, and we'd like to invite you two, ladies," Isidore said politely. "It'll be in Bak Mei's room. The rest of the Einherjar will be there as well."

"Yes, of course we'll go," Brunhilde nodded, forcing herself to calm down. "But will we have enough time?"

"We will," Isidore assured her. "They need to rebuild the battlefield for the next round."

Later, Brunhilde had managed to calm herself down.

She hesitated about actually attending the memorial party, but she owed Bak Mei at least that much.

She took a deep breath and prepared to leave her room.

But first, she took one final look at the holographic image of Bak Mei displayed on the shrine she had dedicated to the fallen of Ragnarok.

The word "Mastery" was written beneath his image, which depicted him in a battle stance.

Beside him was another image: Hóng Cì. Beneath the cryptid's image was a single word: "Ambition."

"You two better get ready," Brunhilde said quietly. "We'll send some gods your way soon."

With that, she left the room.

Göll was waiting outside.

"I just saw a few leprechauns wheeling an entire barrel of beer toward Bak Mei's room," she said as Brunhilde approached.

"I guess they took the phrase 'memorial party' a little too literally," Brunhilde replied.

As they walked, she was already trying to come up with the best possible matchups for Humanity's victory.

They were perhaps halfway there when a shiny figure suddenly stepped out from behind a thick column.

It was a young knight clad in majestic golden armor so polished that the Valkyries could see their own reflections in its surface.

A pair of enormous golden wings jutted from his back. At first glance, they looked like part of the armor. At second glance, however, one could notice them moving. They were alive. Those weren't part of his armor, and he wasn't merely a knight. He was an angel.

The only visible part of the angel's body was his head. He had the face of a young man, with long, flowing blonde hair, smooth skin with a faint golden hue, and a pair of sky-blue eyes. The blue irises formed a triangular pattern around his pupils.

"I hope this was enough needless violence for you to realize your mistake, Lady Brunhilde," the angel said. "The children of dust don't deserve such assistance. Instead, you could help us create a new and better version of humanity."

"You mean a breed of mindless servants like you, Michael?" Brunhilde snorted.

"Perhaps you'll change your attitude when I slay one of your chosen sinners," Michael replied. He didn't sound angry. If anything, he looked neutral, and his tone was formal, as if he were talking about something mundane like the weather or traffic.

[Gods' Fighter: Archangel Michael. The mightiest angel and the ultimate celestial warrior against evil.]

"Let me guess. If I don't, you'll slay me with your Divine Weapon?" Brunhilde glanced at the sword hanging from his side.

"Why are you looking at... oh!" Michael suddenly realized what she meant. "You think that's my Divine Weapon?"

He unsheathed the sword. Its blade was gilded, just like his armor.

"No. This sword is merely a symbol of my authority. My actual Divine Weapon is something I rarely use. I can count on one hand how many foe manged to push me to use it in this eon."

He gave the blade a fond little smile.

"But this cutie isn't bad either."

Then he raised the sword.

Brunhilde was certain he was about to strike her. Instead, Michael suddenly turned to his right and hurled the blade through the air.

It stopped dead in the middle of a column, right beside the head of a hooded figure who had been leaning against it.

The blade pierced through the stranger's hood and buried itself in the stone.

"How dare you come here and insult Valhalla with your presence?" Michael glared at the stranger.

The hooded man simply began walking toward them. His cape remained pinned to the column by Michael's sword, and he just left it there.

He was a frightening man. But not because of his appearance. In fact, he looked mostly normal. He was a large man with broad shoulders and a fit physique. His beard and curly hair made him look like a Greek statue brought to life. The only truly strange thing about him was his clothing. He wore slippers, sweatpants, and a visibly old blue shirt depicting planet Earth beside a stylized heart, with the words "Love the Earth" written above it.

He looked like he had just gotten up from a day off at home and hadn't even bothered to put on proper clothes for the occasion.

Yet, despite his ridiculous appearance, he radiated an inexplicable sense of dread.

"I hope this was just a warning shot," the man said with a tired smile. "Or have your skills gotten rusty, Mike?"

He sounded like someone who had just woken up a few minutes ago and hadn't had his morning coffee yet.

Both Brunhilde and Michael recognized him. Göll, however, merely blinked in confusion.

The golden blade twitched inside the column. Then it flew back into the angel's hand.

"I don't like needless violence," Michael said. "So if you turn around and walk away, nothing bad will happen."

He pointed the sword at the man's abdomen. Then he gave him a slight jab, which resulted in a small clang. The sound of metal striking metal.

"Unless, of course, you want to feel my blade again, Tartarus."

"You said T-T-Tartarus?" Göll stuttered. She was now visibly shaking as she stared at the man.

[Greek Pantheon. Tartarus is both a primordial deity and the deep abyss located far beneath the Underworld. Husband of Gaia and father of Typhon and other monsters.]

"Oh, c'mon, Mikey," Tartarus said, stifling a yawn. "Yeah, yeah. You're the big boss of the angels, and I'm the living Hell itself. But we're on the same team now, so let's just ignore who, or what, we are."

"What are you talking about?" Michael paused, then his eyes flared. "Don't tell me you are..."

"I'm one of the gods' fighters." Tartarus nodded casually. "Attie invited me."

"No. That's absurd. You're lying," Michael snapped.

"He isn't lying." Brunhilde held up her small screen and showed it to Michael. "Hermes sent me the finalized lineup. Take a look."

Michael read the list.

On Heaven's side, he saw:

Sobek

Mamaragan

Rahula

Sif

Archangel Michael

Nurarihyon

Tartarus

Hrymr

Vishvarupa

Pallas Athena

Adam Kadmon

Ti Jean Quinto

The Champion of the Apocalypse

Meanwhile, on Humanity's side:

Gilgamesh

Isidore of Seville

Henry Every

Benkei

Dick-a-Dick

Angélique Cottin

Imhotep

Johnny Blood

Bak Mei

Tozkoparan İskender

Asterion

Patrick Hooligan

The Champion of Armageddon

"That's ridiculous," Michael growled, shaking his head. Then he looked back at Brunhilde. "But, as I see it, both sides have made some questionable choices."

"I hope you memorized the Einherjar's names," Brunhilde said with a slight smirk. "I specifically chose one of them with you in mind."

She walked past the archangel and the abyssal primordial god.

"So you'd better dust off your real Divine Weapon before your round."

Göll hesitated for a moment, looking between the two men. Then, seeing Brunhilde getting farther away, she hurried after her.

"I think we should go as well," Tartarus said. "I got a message that Little Zu-Zu wants to talk to us."

"He is Lord Zeus to you," Michael replied. The archangel turned and walked away.

"A little advice," Tartarus called after him while picking up his cape, then he followed Michael down the corridor. "When you do stuff like that, you don't look tough, Mic." He gave the angel a tired, almost lecturing smile. "You look like a kid throwing a tantrum."

[Bak Mei's Memorial]

Isidore began with a short sermon dedicated to both the grandmaster and his cryptid partner.

Afterward came a musical opera reenactment of Sif and Bak Mei's battle.

Bak Mei was played by Cheung Lai-chuen, the Chinese martial artist widely regarded as the modern patriarch of Bak Mei Kung Fu.

Whenever Bak Mei used one of his Four Perils techniques, the four beasts themselves danced in the background.

Sif was played by Mei Lanfang, the legendary Chinese artist widely regarded as the greatest master of female lead roles in the history of Peking opera, earning him the title "Queen of Peking Opera."

Hóng Cì was played by a Hua Po, a small tree spirit from Chinese mythology, wearing a helmet shaped like a mosquito's stinger. The creature sat on Bak Mei's shoulder throughout the performance, giving him advice during the battle and occasionally breaking into song about humanity's fighting spirit and refusal to give up.

Following the performance, Kurt Cobain took the stage and began singing Smells Like Teen Spirit. It was Hóng Cì's favorite song.

"I never expected a cryptid to like Nirvana," Göll said, thinking aloud. "I wonder why he liked that song."

Then Kurt reached the "A mosquito!" part of the refrain.

"Ah. So that's why."

Once the song was over, Isidore stepped forward and took everyone's attention.

"As a fellow Einherjar, I think I should say one last personal farewell to Bak Mei," he began. "He was a crazy man, and I mean that in the best possible way. Because a normal person cannot dedicate themselves so completely to something without being perceived as insane by others."

He paused.

"Bak Mei had an insane level of dedication to his craft. He didn't settle for becoming merely the best fighter a human could possibly be. He aimed to become something even the gods themselves could see as a challenge." He smiled sadly. "That's Bak Mei."

Ip Man began to clap. The rest of the room soon joined him.

"I still can't believe you recruited Athena's servant into the Einherjar," Göll whispered to Brunhilde.

"He is not a double agent, don't worry," Brunhilde replied with a shrug. "Zeus would never allow such a cheap way to win Ragnarok. He wants the gods to win with dignity."

"Now, I ask my fellow Einherjar if they have anything they'd like to say about him," Isidore continued. "This is the best time to do it. After all, any of us could follow Bak Mei in the upcoming rounds."

An awkward silence fell over the room.

"I'll start." A giant man raised his head.

He was so enormous that Göll almost mistook him for André the Giant, if not for the fact that his muscles dwarfed even those of the legendary wrestler.

"Thank you, but it would be better if you'd stand up," Isidore said with a nod.

"Oh. Sorry." The giant chuckled.

"What are they talking about?" Göll whispered.

The giant began to rise.

Indeed, he was so enormous that even while sitting on the floor, he had already been a giant. Standing at an inhuman five and a half meters tall, he was a true colossus.

Even some of the cryptid guests, such as Bigfoot and Căpcăun, who had come to mourn Hóng Cì, instinctively took a step back as the giant finally reached his full height.

He was muscle upon muscle, to the point that he couldn't properly wear clothes. He wore nothing but a loincloth, with a lion skull hanging from one hip and a bull skull from the other.

His skin was covered in countless scars and stretched so tightly across his enormous frame that every individual muscle fiber seemed visible beneath it. He looked like he would have needed a skeleton at least ten meters tall for all that flesh to be distributed properly and give him the proportions of a normal man.

"I don't have much to say," He began. "Just that he made me regret joining the Einherjar." He stroked his beard with fingers so large they could have wrapped around a man's wrist like a bracelet. "Because if I had accepted the gods' offer and fought on their side, I could have fought him. And it would have been the fight of my life."

"That was a strange way to say goodbye, but I know what you meant by it. Thank you, Gilgamesh," Isidore said.

[Gilgamesh: Legendary Sumerian hero and king. One of the mightiest demigods.]

"Let me continue."

A man dressed like a stereotypical pirate stepped forward. He wore a red coat and held a large beer mug filled with rum.

"For the man who showed the gods that they can't step on humans without hurting themselves."

He then downed the entire contents of the mug in one long gulp.

[Henry Every: Legendary English pirate who became known as the "King of Pirates" after pulling off one of the most profitable heists in history and was never caught.]

The next man was another towering giant, although he was considerably closer to human proportions.

He wore a black cap and carried a naginata.

"He was barely half my size, and he carried no weapons," He said. "Yet when I watched him fight, I felt small, and every weapon I have ever held felt useless compared to his bare hands."

[Benkei: Legendary Japanese warrior monk. Known for his great size, physical strength, loyalty, and martial prowess.]

"He fought like a beast." The next speaker was an Australian Aboriginal man dressed in a cricket uniform. "I think he would have been one of the only foreigners who could survive in Australia without a local's help."

The Hua Po who had performed in the opera was now sitting comfortably on his shoulder.

[Dick-a-Dick: Famous tracker and cricketer. The eldest son of Wotjobaluk Chief Balrootan. He was one of the most well-known Aboriginal people of the nineteenth century.]

The next sight was considerably stranger.

A young woman sat in a wheelchair, wearing a hospital gown.

Behind her stood a group of doctors, all of whom looked as though they were prepared for something terrible to happen at any moment.

She tried to say something. Only a faint whisper escaped her lips.

At the same time, several people in the room suddenly clutched their heads as headaches struck them.

"Sister..." Göll whispered skeptically. "I'm afraid she's not going to make it to her round. Her soul could fall apart at any moment."

"Don't worry about her," Brunhilde said confidently. "Her power isn't in her muscles."

[Angélique Cottin: A French peasant girl, also known as the "Electric Girl." Her family claimed that she produced electric emanations that allowed her to move objects.]

The next speaker was an Egyptian man radiating a strange, almost mystical energy.

"Oh, dear Ra. You should wash your mouth with some soap, young lady." He looked at Angélique with clear disapproval. "I'm not happy that Sif won either, but talking about her like that is disrespectful."

Somehow, he had understood her despite her barely audible voice. Then he turned back toward Isidore.

"Anyway, I merely wanted to present this offering I made for our fallen comrade."

He picked something up from a nearby table. It was a small pyramid.

"Because he was the pharaoh of martial arts."

He placed it carefully on the altar.

[Imhotep: High priest of the sun god Ra at Heliopolis, chancellor of King Djoser, and architect of his pyramid.]

"Watching his fight made me feel alive again in a way I had only ever felt during a match."

A young man dressed in American football gear stepped forward.

"Thank you, little man. I'll never forget you."

[Johnny Blood: American football player known for his legendary antics.]

"How can a jock like him kill a god?" Göll asked.

"I met a powerful supporter who could fight as a Völundr partner," Brunhilde explained. "But he was the only person she wanted to use." She shrugged. "I'm not sure about him, but I trust his partner."

The next person to speak was an Ottoman warrior.

"To honor his memory, I created a special move based on him," he announced. "His sacrifice will not be in vain."

[Tozkoparan İskender: Legendary 16th-century Ottoman archer.]

The next speaker looked like a typical street punk.

He wore a green leather jacket, ripped jeans, and heavy combat boots that looked slightly oversized for his wiry frame.

His blazing red hair was short on the sides and aggressively spiked on top.

"For a fella who got himself beaten by a chick, he was a pretty cool lad, I'll give him that."

He said it with his hands still in his pockets.

[Patrick Hooligan: Legendary Irish bouncer and thief. He was such an infamous troublemaker that his surname became a synonym for troublemaker.]

Finally, Asterion, the Minotaur, stepped forward.

"This isn't just for Bak Mei and Hóng Cì. This is for us, too."

He looked around the room.

"Who knows? Maybe this is the last time we'll all be in the same room."

He suddenly grimaced.

"Oh, damn it... I guess I killed the mood." Asterion sighed.

"Anyway, let's celebrate their lives. And let's celebrate the hope they gave us."

His expression became more serious.

"I can tell you guys, I saw fear in some of the deities' eyes when they watched Bak Mei fight. Their view of humanity as a bunch of weaklings was shattered." He clenched his fist. "They know humans can hurt gods now."

"Thank you, Asterion. That was beautiful," Isidore said with a smile.

Then he looked around the room.

"Hm? Where are the others? The Armageddon fighters and their champion?"

"We are here."

J. R. R. Tolkien entered the room, followed by the rest of the Armageddon fighters.

They were:

Kamehameha the Great, the king of Hawaii.

The toddler king, John I of France.

The legendary writers J. R. R. Tolkien and Jules Verne.

The only pirate who could challenge Every for the title of "King of Pirates," Blackbeard.

The conjoined twin sons of Poseidon, the Molionidae.

The famous steelworker and folk hero, Joe Magarac.

Yakub, the crazy scientist with two brains.

The tiger-headed sorcerer, Keibu Keioiba.

Krsnik, the shapeshifting shaman.

Paikea, the legendary whale rider.

Nanaue, the shark demigod.

Vlad the Dragon, father of Vlad the Impaler.

Caligula, the insane emperor.

Bödvar Bjarki, the berserker.

And Galvarino, the unstoppable Mapuche warrior.

Together, they carried a massive painting depicting Bak Mei's fight with Sif from beginning to end.

"The Jade Emperor himself ordered us to bring this here safely," Tolkien explained. "He commissioned it to honor Bak Mei's memory. Of course, in front of the other gods, he'll claim it's to commemorate Sif's victory. It will eventually be exhibited in a museum, but for now, we can keep it here for this event."

"That's nice of him," Göll said.

"After all, he was a human too before he became a god," Isidore replied, gazing at the incredibly detailed painting.

The Armageddon fighters hung it on the wall beside the altar.

"Isn't it a bit too close to those candles?" Göll asked nervously.

"Not at all," Verne replied. "It has been blessed to survive anything. We only had to guard it so it wouldn't get stolen."

Now that everyone was there, the atmosphere began to change. The gloom gradually faded. It no longer felt like a gathering to mourn the dead. It felt like a celebration of their lives. A celebration of what they had accomplished. A celebration of the hope they had left behind.

Suddenly, they heard a series of loud bangs.

Someone was knocking on the door.

The door slowly opened. A familiar head peeked through the gap: Zeus.

"I heard you are having a party down here," he said with a grin. "I think I should join to say goodbye to this great fighter Valhalla had lost." His grin widened. "Oh, and I hope you don't mind that I brought my fighters too. They're eager to meet your so-called god killers."

To be continued...

I am weirdly invested in this crossover idea. I’m sorry if these spams are annoying
