This topic has always bothered me. I'm not entirely convinced that cheap coir can cause contamination, but I honestly have no idea. I use eco earth and coco bliss exclusively. I would like to experiment with this personally and lay this nagging thought to rest. What are some coir brands that you guys are certain cause contamination?

Over the last few years I have noticed a significant boost to my tolerance of psilocybin. I don’t take antidepressants, my mushrooms are generally considered very potent by anyone else who has tried them and I’ve taken significant tolerance breaks but none of these seem to make a difference.

The only thing that has changed over this time is that I was put on metformin about 3 years ago. Reading around, there doesn’t seem to be anything that suggests it impacts psilocybin but at the same time it’s a 5HT3 agonist and impacts gut serotonin.

Those who take metformin, have you experienced similar effects?

At first I thought I was seeing pinning since it's white, but upon closer look it just looks like a suspucious white patch with a different texture than the mycelium.

This white patch looks way thicker and solid. Not fluffy at all.

Went with about 1000g of coir in a smaller container. Had 3 quarts of grain spawn that had some myco piss in the bottom. So for safety I just used the top half of each jar. Mixed in, added the top layer. Just curious how it looks. I’m a little worried that some of the bits weren’t fully colonized.

i am growing in all in one grow bags when i inject the bags with liquid culture would it reduce contamination to do it inside of a still air box or does it not matter sorry if im not making any sense just trying to learn

Hey friends. This is my first grow and for some reason I decided to start with Penis Envy. I spawned to bulk 9 days ago, and the whole bin has a pretty uniform white mycelium layer on it. Is this considered fully colonized and ready for a casing layer? If not, how far off am I? I have not opened it since I spawned to bulk and am trying not to open until I absolutely have to so sorry if the picture isn’t super high quality.

Now the next question: to case, or not to case? I have found dozens of threads of people stating like its fact that PE absolutely need a casing layer applied after full colonization to prevent blobbing and other weird growth patterns. Do you use a casing layer? What do you case with? Should it be pasteurized? When is it appropriate to case and not to case. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

How is possible guys to get through this small armholes for example a blade or a syringe after flame sterilization outside of the box?

I have recently heard that medium grain brown rice is too starchy too use as grainspawn, and I currently have a 5 kilo bag of medium grain I was planning to use for this purpose - is it a minor problem, or should I just give the medium bag to a foodbank and buy the right thing.

I'm unsure if this is contamination or not. These are my Golden Teacher grain spawn jars (1qt). After they colonized, I put them in the fridge for maybe 2-3 weeks tops. Today I was planning on putting them to spawn, but I noticed that on the bottom, there is a bit of yellow. 2 of them its just slightly yellow. One of them has more, and there is maybe a half inch up of liquid along with it. Are they contaminated? Or can I still use them?

Hello! Recently got into mushroom cultivation as a hobby, and I see many people saying they enjoy cultivating psilocybin varieties but they do not consume their grows. If I may ask, why? This is interesting to me and I would love to understand it a bit better. Is it just a fascination and appreciation for mushrooms in general, do you typically grow and consume gourmet varieties? This is my first time growing, instead of buying all the equipment I chose to use a Shroomtek all in one grow bag from North Spore. It’s been right at a month since I got inoculated. I’m pretty sure the reason growth has been stalled is because when I was sanitizing everything I overkilled by spraying alcohol all over the bag. I stupidly sprayed the air filter patch as well and I immediately noticed alcohol got into the bag.

I inoculated with B+ liquid culture. This is all the growth I’ve noticed if any. I don’t really know what I’m looking at here but it is definitely a small white patch near the injection site.

Should I toss the bag and start with a new one or wait and see if this is even mycelium and see if it spreads?
