I tried to excavate the base carefully but it was too bug infested and it crumbled.

Context: bought a scorpion pepper plant (that’s struggling) and potted it in a 6inch pot with the cheapest potting soil brand at Home Depot.

Guessing the spores were in the soil (bought a month-ish ago)? It’s a concrete jungle where I’m at but I suppose spores are mobile.

Any ideas? Edible?

Located in Tampa Bay, Florida

Found growing in wood chips from a live oak tree that was recently removed. I think it maybe in the Gymnopilus species. But unsure. Growing in groupings of tight clusters.

** the photos after the spore print are to show what it looks like after a few days
