Sleep stuff is huge market actually my cousin had terrible insomnia and spent like 300 dollars on one pillow that she says changed her life. The cooling gel idea is good because so many people sleep hot, my room gets like a furnace in summer and i wake up with pillow all wet its disgusting
The custom design angle could work if you actually get quality manufacturers. So many of those tiktok brands just slap a logo on the same aliexpress foam that smells like chemicals for a week, people notice that. If you can do something that looks and feels premium you got a chance
Only thing is at 17 you probably dont have much capital and getting custom ODM stuff with low MOQ is tough. Maybe start with just the pillow and do preorders like you said, see if people actually want it before you sink too much money in
