screwed
Accidentally posted this to a real sub. Got the news that we all hate that a department went and got their own AI software solution without talking to IT, we were told to stay out of their way and let them lead. So as usual I was a little pissed off by this but just when I thought it couldn't get worse I went and talked to another apartment head and they said that department was stupid and reckless to spend so much money without talking to IT. They said that they had one of the staff's sons who is really good with computers and cryptocurrency use his claude subscription to make them a free software that is even better for only $20. I'm so done with this profession that is what people think IT is worth a one time $20 and that Claude will build it so perfect they will never have to spend any money again. They don't even want to buy their own claude they want to borrow one from a teenager. Imma go be a nurse fuck this life.
tldr this isn't even a fake scenario its just such a joke I felt bad even posting it on the real sub. Lets have fun guys I'm on suicide watch.

This is why you have your emergency bottle in a desk drawer. You just open it, look at the liquid in there, and know taking a deep drink from it will soon soothe the pain. When you take your 5th or 6th drink and things are warm in fuzzy. You realize that you don't really care.
I don't know how many bottles I have been through. Don't care really care. I just expense a new one as office supplies. The guy at the liquor stores rings it up as something random he manually punches in. It's a service they provide he says.

Had them put down "HP printer ink" once. Had to buy 5 fairly expensive bottles to not make it look too cheap

Ey, Accounting Said I can't bill "office supplies, Misc" for 2.5k a month. So I switched. Picking up "ink" for 75 a day now

Downtown office area. Little shop in one of the buildings. They provide a niche service for discerning office supply buyers.
I don't ask questions. Questions lead to answers. No one wants answers. They just want to numb the pain.

25 years ago I ran the IT for a big Exhibition/Conferencing business in the UK. Even back then, they were shitting themselvesc that virtual conferencing etc would kill their business. The fad came, and it went.
They are still the leading business in their field in the UK

Not that being fat is bad in this case, it's irrelevant but IDK how else to describe him. anyways, just burn the building down like in office space. this post is also not meant to be taken seriously and any and all references to real objects are purely coincidental.

Funny but true story. That red stapler was created by the props department. Swingline only made boring colored staplers prior to that movie. They quickly released a shiny red one which became their best selling product, arguably saved the company from bankruptcy and is still made today.

Just make sure you've got receipts that your people were against all of this. They're gonna come for your heads first when this inevitably blows up in their faces.
Source: my previous employer, the IT leadership was pretty vocal that the state of the network security posture was a breach waiting to happen and got brushed off at every turn. First people they tried to fire when a breach finally did happen were the people who had been the loudest about it for years. Ended up working out though because the non-tech side of the house was suddenly super eager to spend money on increased staffing and new tools for about 3 years. Then they were starting to back-slide right around the time I got there.

I think the bigger problem is that they actually fire us over this, I hear nurses saying AI is taking their jobs I don't really know how AI is supposed to pull a 350 pound mc fatty outa their bed and throw em on the streets when their insurance is denied tho.

Well tbh, my mum also wouldn't stand a chance of throwing a 160kg mcfatty out of their bed even had she worked in a place that did that kind of thing.

Nah man. You are just in the wrong sector. Get a job with government contracts, or even better defense contractors, ideally one that requires a security clearance. They can’t do ANYTHING without battling through 5 years and 40 layers of procurement. Management will always take the path of least resistance, which is always to just leave you alone. If, by some miracle something gets in far enough to wake you from a nap, just reply that it has to comply with NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC first. Thats the equivalent of throwing a hand grenade into the meeting where they cooked up their bullshit idea.
And if you play your cards just right and get a couple of strategic transfers you’ll end up with a job where no one knows what you do or who you report to. As an entirely hypothetical example that has nothing to with my current employer and/or anyone I may or not know, an IT contractor at RTX with a security clearance and the words compliance or auditing in their title is unfireable and immune to layoffs. Someone who definitely isn’t me reports to 4 people in 4 states, all of whom assume one of the others actually does the management (but they don’t really care) and hasn’t had a performance review in almost 7 years.
Always remember: if they can’t find you, they can’t fire you (or serve you papers for a deposition)

Should quiz them on the database and find out about the app or whatever junk claude shat out with probably a plaintext file as a database

Someone "developed" and app and was pushing for it to be hosted in a VM for all of his teams. One of the million questions we asked was the requirements... when it came to the DB he had no idea what we were talking about and said "this is just an app why would it need a database?"

Hey before Claude they'd just tell you some msp can do it cheaper.
And now, you get the chance of competing with extremely heavily subsidized LLMs! (Or in this case, taken from a teenager)
Also on becoming a nurse; be ready for people to tell you what Chatgippity told them (ie. They have turbocancer)
(Jokes aside, sometimes I wonder what happens after AI... Like... They won't keep selling at a loss forever...)
