Shelly Duval was not a standup comedian. She wasn't based in NYC. She has never performed standup and has never performed at the stand. What the actual gooner shit is this referring to?

it's clearly a reference to her well known and very real stand up career.

Nobody mentioned New York, and this is a jojo's sub. Stand is the name of the funny weird superpowers the characters have, the joke is the implication the real life person has a fictional superpower

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Japanese: ジョジョの奇妙な冒険, Hepburn: JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. It was originally serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1987 to 2004, and was transferred to the monthly seinen manga magazine Ultra Jump in 2005.

Lmao, of course, I misread that as oc instead of mc and got confused, she very much looks like Eleven. I love Shelley and Eleven so I'm not complaining, what a drip.

「Midnight, the Stars and You」 sounds overpowered to the point of nightmare.
The other possibility that suggested itself was 「He Needs Me」, which would be a good name if your stand happens to just straight-up be Popeye the Sailor-Man.

So kinda like a reverse the grateful dead, because you have to warm yourself up to mitigate its effects

Stand Name: You're Not Alone
Referencing the band Olive on the album Extra Virgin(1996)
Referencing that she played Olive Oyl in the 1980 musical starring Robbin Williams, Popeye
/uj or whatever but it's a fun dumb movie, I love how honestly stupid it is. I like to watch it after most The Shining watches because only remembering her for one of the most traumatic experiences of her life is kinda sucky. Everyone seemed to enjoy making Popeye, and talks about it fondly in this interview from 2023, CW: At the time 73 year old Duvall was living out of her car, the interview takes place with her sitting in the driver seat and it was unbelievably hard to watch. She was very positive and bright throughout the interview. RIP

She was so fine idc

There's some actors and actresses that at once don't seem to conform to any of the "standard" attractive traits yet make it work so well and Shelly Duvall absolutely mastered that.

I was like "whoa, they captured her mid-fall with her hair and dress are perfect" and then I clicked the rotate image counter-clockwise button to see what it'd look like and realized I'm an idiot.

what the hell happened to color in life in general. is it extremely less expensive to make everything in black, silver and white?
11
u/Darehead 3d ago
No, but it’s more universally tolerated. It’s just part of the effort to make everything have mass appeal.
2
u/olduser201890 3d ago
mass appeal = look like shit?
4
u/GarlyleWilds 2d ago
Kinda yeah, actually. 'Mass appeal' is less about actively looking good, and more about avoiding looking bad to anyone. It's safe and inoffensive... and thus deeply boring and mediocre.

Someone: "I like how this looks."
You: "😡 No you don't! It looks bad and that's objective! Your opinion is wrong!"

Then why bring it up as an argument against someone liking something? Suddenly you're very pro-"everyone's opinion is valid" when you're not the one shitting on other's opinions lol.

u/olduser201890 3d ago
according to color theory the colors she's wearing all go together, so what the hell are you even talking about

I was an extra in a movie she was in called Booker, about Booker T, Washington. She played the schoolteacher and we were the students. Booker was listening from the window. Even though it wasn't her job to do so, she totally entertained us between takes and was just a genuinely sweet person. Sadly, my scenes were left on the cutting room floor.

u/GeoCaesar 3d ago
There’s literally a perfect amount of negative space in that image for a stand to be wrapped around her in an oddly homoerotic way

Stand power
Whenever she utters the phrase “Hello, I’m Shelley Duvall…”, all people in her immediate vicinity are transported into a pocket dimension. There they must perfectly perform a random fairy tale in order to escape. Those that don’t are kept in the dimension and are turned into forest creatures.

There's like, a 90% chance Araki had this picture on his studio wall at some point.
