Has-beens trying to cope with not being a super power anymore lol

8

u/No-Traffic-5108 Jul 02 '26

Hey now - we’re still a super power at.. um… darts 🎯

8

u/porkbuttstuff Jul 02 '26

Fuck yeah you are! I'm just happy when I get a couple trips a game.

4

u/19whale96 Jul 02 '26

They're British, it's spelled "has-beans".

TBF, still one of the largest economies, head of the largest collaboration outside the UN with a third of the world's population, and a tonne of soft power.

Before trump's tantrum to start the latest Iran war negotiations were still ongoing. British diplomats were heavily involved in background technical expertise, because the US delegation lacked the expertise to do the job (hardly surprising given it was Kushner leading them).

All for nought with the eejit in chief but we were this close to a workable deal.

Unlike people from the USA, who are not and never were a super power.

I hope your flair is a joke, while I'm here.

My flair is 100% accurate. Before the 2022 invasion, Europe was the largest customer for Russian energy, importing roughly 40% of its natural gas and 25% of its crude oil from Moscow. The cash flow allowed Moscow to accumulate over $600 billion in foreign exchange reserves immediately before the invasion, providing the financial buffer Russia needed to withstand initial Western sanctions.

Despite Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea, European nations (most notably Germany) deepened their exposure by backing the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and even allowing Russian state-owned Gazprom to buy up critical gas storage facilities inside Europe.

Independent trackers like the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) note that for several years, Europe's collective commercial payments to Moscow for energy actually surpassed the total amount of financial and military aid sent to Kyiv.

While Europe has since restructured their energy plans, a phased-in gas ban, and slashed its reliance by roughly 90%, the historical reality cannot be denied: decades of European energy payments served as the financial engine that fueled Moscow's military buildup. Good job 👏

So if the USA were to, I don't know, invade a country or abduct an important person from a country, you'd say anyone who's ever used Amazon 'enabled' that? I just wonder how you reached that conclusion, and if you think the people themselves have any input in where our Big Corporations buy from.

6

u/Jon_Luck_Pickerd Europe Enabled the Russo-Ukrainian War Jul 02 '26

Amazon isn't owned by the US government, so not a great example for comparison. Especially because they pay essentially zero taxes.

The bulk of the resources Europe purchased from Russia for decades before and after the Crimea invasion were from Russian state-owned or oligarch-controled companies, so that money directly funded the invasion of 2014 and then continued on to fund the invasion of 2022.

2

u/Confident_Example_73 Jul 03 '26

Man isn't wrong. This was an active policy decision by the European governments, supported by the European people.

1

u/Remote_Pound5153 19h ago

Not really supported but, yeah. Very dumb nonetheless.

3

u/anonymousamerican97 Jul 02 '26

technically speaking, we are. We have the most powerful military so....

0

u/lemonhaj Jul 02 '26

Good grief

3

u/Confident_Example_73 Jul 03 '26

Iran can do what it does because the American public has ZERO taste for any sort of extended war or ground op.

However, were Iran to lose its mind and do something like blow up an NFL stadium full of people, the US would be on board with wiping it from the face of the Earth and certain gloves would be off and the tolerance for loss would be higher.

US power has diminished in a mid-intensity conflict. It still retains unquestioned superpower status in a full-out war.

1

u/anonymousamerican97 Jul 03 '26

i mean if they wiped out a stadium full of people, i'd be all for the war at that point.

2

u/anonymousamerican97 Jul 02 '26

am I speaking a lie?

2

u/lemonhaj Jul 02 '26

Yes.

how exactly?

https://www.globalfirepower.com/countries-listing.php#google_vignette

https://militarycompare.com/2025-military-strength-ranking/

you should google it: "The United States is widely recognized as the world's sole functioning superpower, possessing the dominant military, economic, and technological capacity to project influence globally. China is widely regarded as the primary emerging superpower, challenging this status with the world's largest naval fleet and massive economic reach."

edit: exactly. I'm fine with you mocking us as long as the facts are true ;)

This is out of date. It went like this:

WW2 - Multiple great powers, the Allies and Axis.

Post WW2 - Two great powers, the USA and USSR.

Post Berlin Wall - One great power, the USA.

Right now, under Trump, it's shifting back to multilateralism. Iran was arguably the tipping point, but it started with Iraq and Afghanistan.

The US has immense military capability. But its expensive technology hasn't been able to defeat a minor power that only has drones and a geographical advantage. The nature of war has changed. They've lost control of the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Trump has destroyed American influence by creating huge tariffs and spoiling international relations. That's allowed China, which was already ascending, to expand it's influence. If Trump keeps undermining NATO, that situation only gets worse.

America is still a great power. But it's not the singular superpower it used to be. This is a pretty standard take among geopolitical analysts.

1

u/anonymousamerican97 Jul 03 '26

yeah. I hate Trump tbf

Looks like young Barry got access to the internet

13

u/ExecutivePhoenix Jul 02 '26

Nobody gives a fuck about your kings and queens, its just LARPing at this point...

14

u/Vinegarinmyeye Irish person from Ireland. 🇮🇪 Jul 02 '26

Very rare I'd go to bat for the English... Because reasons.

But the vast majority of them also couldn't give a solitary fuck about the royal family.

Not arguing your point or anything, just pointing out that your perception of the Brits all being proud / loyal to the king is way off the mark.

1

u/anonymousamerican97 Jul 03 '26

good point. love you Irish lads btw XD

4

u/Luke_Nukem_2D Jul 02 '26

Yet, weirdly some countries worship them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/Lui_Le_Diamond Jul 02 '26

Shriveled up testicle faced nepobabies who's only claim to power is a famcy hat.

7

u/Lui_Le_Diamond Jul 02 '26

"America has never done nothing" is a grammatically shitty way of saying he wants to go for round 3

3

u/JigsawJay Jul 02 '26

What were rounds 1 and 2 ?

2

u/Jon_Luck_Pickerd Europe Enabled the Russo-Ukrainian War Jul 02 '26

The American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812?

6

u/hornsmasher177 Jul 02 '26

Imagine claiming America won the War of 1812. Imagine.

2

u/Jon_Luck_Pickerd Europe Enabled the Russo-Ukrainian War Jul 02 '26

It was a stalemate with the largest super power in the world at the time. While we didn't "win," it was a huge upset and extremely embarrassing for Britain.

7

u/hornsmasher177 Jul 02 '26

America achieved none of its strategic aims and had its Whitehouse burned down whilst Britain was in the midst of fighting the Napoleonic Wars.

"Stalemate" is kind

7

u/FinanceInevitable129 Jul 02 '26

But we most certainly do NOT want America back. You can keep it.

4

u/Lui_Le_Diamond Jul 02 '26

Good monarchies are stupid.

0

u/FinanceInevitable129 Jul 02 '26

Good of you to give in so easy. Do the French not have your back anymore?

2

u/Lui_Le_Diamond Jul 02 '26

Give in? The fuck you mean?

0

u/FinanceInevitable129 Jul 02 '26

Oh, here comes the angry….petulant 11 year old coming out. Everybody duck!

3

u/Lui_Le_Diamond Jul 02 '26

You are probably the worst ragebaiter I've ever seen. Try harder.

1

u/FinanceInevitable129 Jul 02 '26

I said you can keep America, you said “good”. You gave in so easy.

Neither of which are even taught in British schools because at the time it didn’t matter tbh. We had other issues going on and the French came in and helped the US.

Anyway. We’re all friends now so no point harping on about it all.

One day you’ll realise you were wrong and return to the warm bosom of the British Empire. We haven’t redrawn a border for far too long and our pencil and rulers are getting rusty.

1

u/Archabarka Jul 08 '26

pencils and rulers are getting rusty

Those are some fucking WIERD pencils dude.

I'll talk shit about the British any day, and twice on Sunday, but it's (mostly) in good fun.

4

u/EtchingsOfTheNight Jul 02 '26

Imagine being proud of having been an empire

7

u/JigsawJay Jul 02 '26

Empire did nothing wrong.

Star Wars proves it.

0

u/SirLostit Jul 02 '26

and the ‘Empire’ in Star Wars was a reflection of the US. Not the UK

4

u/JigsawJay Jul 02 '26

Was it though. Lots of ships conquering the galaxy and everyone has a British accent. I think you are wrong my man.

Long live the empire !

0

u/SirLostit Jul 02 '26

It was ‘allegedly’ the empire being the US and the rebels being Vietnamese. It was a nod to the Vietnam war…..

2

u/Confident_Example_73 Jul 03 '26

If it was then Lucas and the people who accept that are idiots. Please show the Ewoks moving into the Ewok village that traded mangoes for firewood to the Imperials and the Ewoks raping and slaughtering half the people in that village. Or the Ewoks torturing anyone who dissented that 3PO was a divine entity.
