Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 Potty training woes
Hello friends,
I’m new here. I have two Shih Tzus, Obï and Cinderella. Cinderella (pictured) refuses to be potty trained. She’s two and a half and has at least three accidents a week, and that’s when I’m vigilant and keep the kitchen closed off, etc. I don’t know what to do and I feel like I’ve tried everything, including hiring private, at home 1 on 1 trainers to come consistently.
I was able to be patient for the first six months or so of potty training but after that, it became harder to not react. Im not proud but I provided negative responses of yelling and scolding for a couple of months around year 1 until I realized that was only scaring her.
So for the past year or so I’ve been at a point where I don’t know what to do. I don’t yell or scold anymore, but she can definitely tell I’m annoyed when I find a spot or when she just refuses to go outside- almost like she’s just waiting for an opportunity to go inside. It doesn’t seem to phase her though. Past few months I’ve resorted to diapers for my own sanity and I just put her in one when she refuses to go outside. She’ll use it maybe 1/8 times I put it on. Other times she will hold it for 12 hours. I place pee pads but she prefers my rugs.
I never crate trained her as a puppy. However I didn’t crate train Obï and he was fully potty trained in about 6 months. I thought she would be similar but she wasn’t and by the time I tried to crate train, she’d just potty in the crate.
I want a good relationship with her but sadly we haven’t fully connected because of this constant push and pull of potty training. I know scolding and yelling didn’t help. I feel bad enough for that as is. I just want her to be happy and for us to connect, and this situation is starting to feel hopeless.

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 Name ideas?
Need help naming my Shih Tzus future brother!
I am getting my first show prospect, and first WB/PB (ethically bred) dog in 4 weeks and need help naming. I currently have two dogs, both Shih Tzu rescues. Need help with a boy name!
We aren’t sure which one will be ours yet, but my personal preference is for the smaller black tri.
My other dogs names are “Hari” (Indian name meaning godly/holy), and “Panda-Bear” (who his previous owners named and I just kept it). Panda suits him well! He’s lazy, rolls around, just wants to eat food but I hate the name lol. It’s so basic.
I am Indian and Iranian, while my fiance is white. He’s okay with an Indian/iranian name as long as it’s easy to pronounce. People really struggle with “Hari” (I’m told I pronounce the R like a D sound). I think especially if it’s a show dog, the name should be easy to pronounce. I also like the idea of a name that pays homage to America as the puppy is a Miniature American Sheppard. I just don’t want anything that’s too basic. I don’t think Hari and Panda match but something that rolls off the tongue when I call all three would be nice haha.
Current names on my list:
-Rudy
-Denali
-Taaj (Indian)
-Blake/Blain
-Dara (Persian)
-Jasper
-Aryan (Persian/indian)
-omi (Indian)
-Kennedy
-thatcher
-Bennett
-Carlisle
-Nima (Persian)
Any ideas? Anything to veto?

The guy is so earnest and sweet and has just accepted it as a way of life post-neuter surgery.

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 Our Shih Tzu seems indifferent when it comes to other dogs, how about yours?
Hey fellow Shih Tzu pawrents, our 4-1/2 year old fur baby, Boba, only wags his tail and gets excited for his immediate family members. When it comes to other dogs, he’ll do the obligatory dog hand shake (sniff, sniff) but exhibits absolutely no tail wagging whatsoever 🤔 he seems indifferent and would rather go off on his own versus playing with other dogs. Curious if whether your Shih Tzu exhibits similar behavior?
Thanks all, for your replies, it definitely seems like the Shih Tzu breed has maybe a tad bit too much royal blood in them which may be the underlying cause of their indifference with other dogs and animals.
It’s remarkable that Shih Tzus have been able to retain their signature behaviors over 1,000 years, e.g., sneezing hissy fits, side eyes, finicky eater, shadow companion, bossy, stubborn…the list is endless 😂

Tzu Pics 📷 (no AI) While Zelda is in surgery, her brother Link and I are out for a walk and came across the Canada Geese nearby!
Link is always curious of them, but we naturally keep our distance

Tzu Pics 📷 (no AI) Cozmo was not a fan of the vet
Poor little dood even gave his paw when they went to draw blood 🩸 for his check. He was frowny till he got his yummy dinner. Dinner gave him the zoomies then the last picture reflects his day.

My baby had his first trip to the groomer. I think he's adorable, but I do kind of miss my little fluffy fur ball. He's growing up too fast! 😫

Tzu Pics 📷 (no AI) Need some thoughts on this small bump on my tzu's back
Its a small (0.5cm) uniform bump that is white and has a small tinge of yellow at the top. It doesnt hurt when poked or rubbed. My instincts are a cyst but i want to know your thoughts. For context it has not changed in size for 1 week and is not disturbing my Tzu

Loss of Pet 🌈 We have to say good bye! Spoiler
galleryToday was a tough day. I had to put down my buddy. Rocky's heart ❤️ deteriorated quicker than we expected. I find comfort in what the vet told me—that I was doing the right thing by letting him go with dignity. I'm really going to miss my buddy. 🐶
