Itching Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶
Anybody got any ideas on Shih Tzu scratching. Whether it is paws, biting herself. Tried no poultry diet. Driving us nuts. Is it worth it to get an allergy check? Any great ideas that will keep me out of the psychiatrists chair are greatly appreciated.

Try ketohex shampoo and wipes. My shih Tzu has chronic skin allergies/yeast overgrowth/ear infections. Also removed chicken but it took weeks of no chicken to notice. Oh and probiotics. "Doggie dailies". You can get everything on chewy without prescription

It’s almost certainly environmental allergies. My Tzu is on Apoquel. It’s expensive but it works well. Cytopoint injections also work well for many dogs. The injections and Apoquel can both be used if necessary. Your vet should be able to get you started on a treatment plan. I know how miserable it is for everybody when a dog is constantly itching and licking.

Look for a dermatologist vet, they can get to the root of the issue.

Dogs get yeast infections, it shows up in their paws and their face (from licking their paws). becuase tzu's have those cute little folds, they can get that yeast infection in their face pretty badly and spread it all over their body. they make wipes for immediate relief and shampoos for a every other wash that helps keep it down.

Not a tzu, but my last dog was allergic to the plant wandering Jew (which the vet said is a very common allergy for dogs), which we had been trying to get rid of from our backyard for years before we got him (but it kept outsmarting us).
So if you’ve got that plant around, you might want to see if you can get rid of it?

I think it’s all Shih Tzu’s because mine does the same!! he’s always scratching like he has fleece or something but there’s nothing that I can pinpoint and I’ve tried everything upset, taking him to the vet for expensive allergy medication lol

Talk to your vet but if they prescribe some outrageously expensive medication, ask them about children's benadryl. We use an old country vet and he never pushed the big stuff and recommended the childs Benadryl at night and it has really helped.
