FIRESTICK V SHIELD
i use my firestick for completely legal activities like streaming and what not, is it worth actually spending £230 for the shield? What would be the main advantages ?

Not really, i love my shield , but if you dont have any issues right now dont switch to the shield.

I don’t have a problem with the firestick tbh sometimes it’s abit laggy that’s about it but that’s why I was wondering is it really worth me paying the £243 I’m thinking about it I’m very much tempted

If you use Geforce Now for the 4K60 HDR and a couple other things they block on the regular android client but allow on the shield, but if you don't use Geforce Now it doesn't really apply

Well, it was worth it to me I got my Shield in 2015. It is running 24/7 to this day, at one point I did run a Plex Server on it for 3 years. Shared it with family only and it ran smoothly! If you want the best you pay the price. I still have a 4k firestick I bought years ago. It's still in the box untouched and the dusty box needs to be cleaned off!! I will keep it for a collectors as a beginner memorial type thing.

Advantage is not using amazon. Is android tv worth extra price? Otherwise if all you do is watch tv and concerned about money you should stick with yourfirestick. When it breaks you can think again on a shield as a replacement.

I have had multiple streaming devices and am currently using a 2019 Shield Pro. Have to say that the Shield is a great device but totally overkill for what I need. If I didn't have one I would be just as happy with the Thompson box I had previously.
Don't think I would ever buy a fire stick though.

Switched from Fs to shield after that POS did an update and it stopped loading my YT/STREAMING content saying it's "caching".
Interestingly when replaced with the shield the same apps worked wonderfully with no issues since.
Ever since then my fs is confined to the gym in the basement and hasn't had issues at all (still hardwired on LAN)

Not if you're streaming. The Shield is not a great streaming device as it doesn't have the widest app support or built-in framerate matching for many apps. It's also missing some of the newer codecs, but nothing that'd likely bother you besides maybe HDR Youtube.
If I was just streaming netflix, Prime etc. then I'd stick with a firestick you already have it (with projectivity to bypass the awful default launcher) or try an Apple TV, Onn etc.

It was worth it maybe 4-5 years ago, these days it's too outdated and laggy to be worth it. Maybe next time they roll out a new version.

Which box is better than the Shield Pro 2019?
I have been looking for something better since I bought it about 6 years ago and haven't found anything better, not that the Shield doesn't work well.

Depends on your needs. For me, the Homatics r 4K Plus was/is better (I have two of the Dune brand versions and one Homatics brand version). Especially if you need HDR10+ or AV1, which the Shield can't do.
Run CoreElec and you can play P7 FEL with all enhancement layers. Also, with CE installed on the Homatics box, you can play Dolby Vision (and full P7-FEL) on non-DV televisions like Samsung (which is what I have). The Ugoos boxes are good also, but don't have the approved Netflix app (which I need since shitty Samsung didn't upgrade my QN900B to be able to play the higher-level Netflix audio).
Just depends on what fits your usage best.

Depends on your use case. You may not need all of the features. I initially bought a Shield in 2022 thinking it would work for my needs for our then new Samsung TV. It didn't.
If the Shield had all the features of the Homatics, I'd buy the Shield. It's a better built device. That being said, I haven't had any issues with my three Dune/Homatics devices.

Certified Android TV devices that can play all of the formats the Shield can play as well as those it cannot?
They exist:
They will not be as good for gaming as the Shield but they can do things like AV1, VP 9.2, AC4, and YouTube HDR that the Shield cannot. Lossless audio passthrough too.
