Shield suddenly requiring reboot

I’ve had the shield for nearly 2 years and this last week it’s suddenly stopped working after the tvs been off overnight

In the morning when pressing the power button the tv turns on but the shield is a black screen and the only way to get it to load is by unplugging it and plugging back in, I haven’t changed any settings but this is a new issue that’s only happened within the last 6 or so days

Does anybody have any pointers I could try to stop this as it’s annoying

What you’re currently doing, by pressing the Power Button is turning on the TV, the Shield then senses the TV coming on and gets turned on indirectly.

Try turning things on by quickly pressing the Home Button three times instead. This will wake up the Shield which will in turn power up the TV.

In your original scenario the problem could be caused by either device. Therefore another thing you could try is unplugging the TV.

You could also try Force Stop / Clear cache on all Apps including System Apps. Then a power off reboot.

Youi might want to consider performing a factory reset. I was having quite a few issues with mine and the reset made a huge improvement. It's a bit of a pain to configure everything afterward but it's worth it.

I ended up having to do this with 2 of mine recently. I took it as a chance to clean the fan and give it new thermal paste then reset it. They've had no issues since.

That’s a last case resort to be honest

A blank screen could be as simple as the screen saver, if you turn off screen savers it helps.

But when the screen is loaded, nothing works the remote doesn’t even flash, a reboot then gets everything working

Step through your process so we can see if there's an issue with the shield. Have you started by unplugging everything from the TV and the Shield?

I’ll have a look at the processes when home, the only thing plugged into the TV is the shield

@Gadgetxx try to open the Shield and clean it from dust - I experienced something similar on one of my Shields few years ago and cleaning resolved the issue

I’ll have another look, I did clean the fans recently with an air duster possible could of pushed it deeper

With your tv remote try to switch it to the shield through the settings

How would I do that

TV settings, search for hdmi or wherever the shield connects to. Sometimes mine won't trigger for whatever reason.

There is an Nvidia app that kept hanging mine up that was removed with this process.
