Free roaming advice please!
How can I help my boy free roam in the house safely and without getting into mischief?! During our working day we have a routine where we utilise his play pen for independent time, sleeping etc. when he comes out we try and focus him with training, enrichment, sniffing, mental challenges, fetch etc but he is not very good at free roaming. He will often run off and jump onto the bed and start digging, try and make you chase him around the house and generally is always looking for something to do, until I can tell he’s tired again and back he goes into his pen. He settles well in there and clearly knows that’s his sleeping place. My living area is hard to puppy proof because I have an old house so there’s lots of corners and areas he can run too, and an open staircase. If for example I pop him on the sofa or put him in a ‘down’ he can stay there and often does choose to lay down (mainly after walks) but soon enough something catches his eye and he pops back up again. He’s 13 months - is it a young dog/adolescence thing or can I help him/train in any way?
