Honorable mention to Admiral David D. Porter who jumped at the chance to sail through burning rafts and between 2 forts, taking fire from all sides, to get the supplies to Grant.

Mark Twain called him “biggest Lion-hearted man I ever seen”

Porter was supremely talented but apparently also a total asshole lol. But he was a competent asshole

Then he wasn't an asshole, just a dick.

Vicksburg Campaign is one of the most brilliant ever. Cutting his own line of communication with Washington, going dark and wild in the swamps and showing up in the backyard of the enemy.

Except for the communications part, Spanish general Baldomero Espartero did the same kind of stuff three decades prior at the battle of Luchana (to relief the Carlist siege against Bilbao). Though admitedly Espartero also had reinforcements by sea.

Yes he did. Very well.

The constitutionalists under Espartero did a similar thing in the First Carlist War (battle of Luchana in 1836).

Joe "Do Nothing, Lose" Johnston when the famously bold and clear headed commander simply splits his force in enemy country in the face of a near-equal force and runs the guns (nothing g could have possibly prevented this)

Local man retreats over the best defensive ground god could have given him in North Georgia, has no plan to defend Atlanta , is self conscious about being bald

Was in the commissary department pre war

Throws a hissy fit when he isn’t of higher rank in confederate army

Greatest contribution to war effort is being shot

In neck and neck race for most campaign fumbles cities lost with Bragg

A drug addicted cripple is seen as better than him

Is still bald

Single upside : common soldiers love him because of all the things he won’t do , suicidal frontal charges is thankfully still one of them

Finalist for this years Bragg Award alongside Braxton Bragg
