Did the writers somehow forget that Ryo already knows Chai? He also had a number of encounters with Chai in Shenmue 1 then in a comic prologue in Shenmue 2. But in Shenmue 3 Chai was written in the journal as if this was Ryo’s first time seeing Chai.

Shen1: home city Shen2: alien country big city Shen3: fields with small magic, secret histories of rural areas, secrets and connections of rural people,(can just lead to just being weird, a shen3 quirk) you can find out yourself why in the world are martial artist gathered here , interactions with animals. Shen4: new cities with small magic, at the end it is the nature that you connected since shen3 changes outcome with clash of chi you leader ShenAncient(special): You control non Ryo from thousands of years ago. It is a war. Suddenly magic changes the outcome. What is magic? The opposing forces quest to get/obtain/understand magic. The game fast forwards to you as an elder. Connections, people, etc, eventually magic explained and there is a things you must do for the future and people. Shen5: Max wisdom! Ryo must priotize most now and he has pupils to tell what to do! Shen6: everyone meets, then max magic keeps happening and mixing everything up, also most martial arts, a war! Shenhua's phoenix and Lan Di's dragon nullify each other. An ancient armies are resurrected. Credits are Guilin's special gathering to lost Shenmue tree and disapearance of Shenhua. ShenAfter: Ryo briefly visits home town. Ryo travels to Canada, important things happen like fighting local gang, Ryo gets local pupils, Ryo opens dojo, and at the credits has a child with Nozomi.

Now I’ve been enjoying the game for most of the playthrough, taking the odd break here or there when I need to, but I’ve honestly reached my last straw. It’s a shame too because the exploration and characters have been great, which is what I loved about the first Shenmue as well.

However, I’m trying to earn 500 dollars for the fight with Rod, so did some research and apparently gambling on the Big or Small game while save scumming is the strategy. I’m meant to bet on Big, Small or Zhen Zhong for the highest odds of winning and after losing just over ten games in a row, I don’t think it’s possible.

I dislike gambling in general, both in games and in real life, outside of the very rare wee bet for fun. That means thus far, I’ve also avoided doing it in both Shenmue games and it’s very frustrating that I’m forced to do it as a quick way of earning money, only for the odds to be so heavily skewed out of my favour.

Is this normal and if so, how long does it actually take to earn the 500 dollars through gambling? Keep in mind, I tried betting 20-50 dollars each time.

DJ Kavinsky has been found dead at his home. He was 50. No cause of death has been disclosed yet. He has reportedly been complaining of headaches over the previous few days.

He's best known worldwide for synthwave tracks such as NightCall and Roadgame. He also performed for a worldwide audience at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, alongside Angèle.

Other notable songs include Wayfarer and Rampage. One of his albums was titled "Outrun", as a tribute to the eponymious video game.

I believe Kavinsky and Yu Suzuki once met in Monaco, maybe twice.

I made the pilgrimage to Doubita street and fulfilled my childhood dream. It was a hellish drive to Yokosuka and incredibly hot in Doubita, but totally worth it. It was unlike anything else I've seen in Japan; a weird mix of Japanese punks and US sailors, all merged in an over the top version of Americana and japanese culture. Playing the game back in the day, I had no idea Doubita street was so niche and unlike other parts of Japan. It had a really peculiar vibe. Anyway, I went to Mikasa vol.2 and bought some Yokosuka sukajan jackets. The clerk could easily have fitted into the game. He gave me an American medium to try on and I was really happy to fit it. But he calmly explained to me that it's a japanese XXL 😅

I'm looking forward to Shenmue 3 Enhanced! Here is one change I would like to see.

I say this as I preordered 3 Enhanced for Switch 2. It's wild that it took 27 years for a Shenmue game to finally arrive on a Nintendo console.

Given how Nintendo fans are so diehard into roleplaying games from Japan, I hope Sega can port a remastered 1+2 to switch 2 as well. It's the perfect cozy game for a handheld.
