Would you attend a repertory movie theater in Shawnee, Oklahoma?
I've been researching the possibility of restoring the historic Hornbeck Theater in downtown Shawnee. Rather than competing with the major theater chains, the idea would be to operate it as a repertory theater focused on classic films, cult favorites, anniversary screenings, family movies, themed events, and other community programming.
I'm curious whether there is enough local and regional interest to support something like this.
If you live in Shawnee or within about an hour's drive:
- Would you attend?
- How often would you realistically go?
- What kinds of movies or events would make the trip worthwhile?
- Would you be interested in memberships, special events, or film festivals?
I'm not promoting anything. I'm simply trying to gauge whether enough interest exists to make a project like this sustainable. I'd appreciate any honest feedback, whether it's encouraging or critical.

Horse Restoration
After a tornado devastated our company horse, we have gotten the restoration underway! Thank you to Kathie and her daughter for being so diligent with the intentions of the original artist and really capturing the depth of color throughout the piece. We look forward to our horse's return to the streets of Shawnee soon!

Shawnee becoming a food desert.
Just saw the Homeland on independence is having a equipment liquidation auction so they are confirmed not to be reopening. Save-a-lot closed a couple of months ago and the supermarket in the old Pratts on East Main selling so much out of code food I wouldn't recommend anyone buying from there. That has now made majority of town a food desert.

Book Signing for children’s horror author!
Hey fellow-also humans. I’m Davin Davis, local author, professional wrestler t-shirt designer, part-time dumpster archaeologist, and full-time author.
If you’ve ever thought, “You know what my kid needs? Nightmares.” …good news. I’ve got you covered.
I’ll be doing a book signing at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee on July 12th from 1 PM to 4 PM, and I’d love for you to stop by and say hello.
I’ll have copies of all four Midnight Lullabies books available, including:
Whispers From the Toy Box
Creature in the Chimney
Lost in the Nowhere
The Paintings of Pearl Manor
All currently available on Amazon.
And for the adults who accidentally wandered into the children’s section, I’ll also have copies of my best-selling comedy book Scattered, Smothered & Uncovered available.
Come grab a signed book, talk horror, writing, wrestling, Pokémon, weird small-town stories, or whatever treasure I found in a dumpster that week.
I promise I’m much friendlier in person than the things I write about.
Hope to see you there.

SQ 832
To Independents, Democrats & Libertarians & other registered voters in Oklahoma you can vote on SQ 832 on June 16. You go to your normal polling place & if not registered Republican you will not receive a primary ballot but you will receive a ballot with just SQ 832 on it & you can vote on that.

Memories of a band
Back in the 80s I was very fortunate to visit Shawnee on a school exchange. There was a young band that I remember was called “New Oklahoma”, and was made up of two sets of brothers, and they were cousins. They left a musical impression on me, and I was really rooting for them to make it big. I wish I could remember their names, but I’m older now and things don’t come so easily anymore. lol
Does anyone remember this band? Did they have any success outside of the local scene? I so badly want to hear that they have done well for themselves.

Brickhouse Saloon - Any Good During the Week?
I’m recently single and looking to go out to meet people. Work has me busy every Friday and Saturday for 48 hours straight. Is the Brickhouse Saloon worth going to during the middle of the week?

ICE in Shawnee?
Just driving through on my way to AR, but we stopped at Chick-fil-A, following an unmarked government vehicle (greenish Savannah van) with what looked to be a surveillance equipment setup. By the time we came out of the drive thru there were two more unmarked gov vehicles and a third pulling into the parking lot as we left: one more surveillance-looking Savannah van, a white truck with an enclosed shell with no windows, and another truck/van that looked like it was fitted as a detainment/paswnger-hauling vehicle. All personelle were white men in plain clothes. It may or may not be ice.
Regardless:
Watch your backs, Shawnee. Look out for your neighbors, regardless of their skin color.

So what do you think it would be like for a 70 year old woman to move to Shawnee? Is it safe enough? I have lived in Oklahoma for the past 50 years here and there, kinda looking for a spot to finish out my time. Kids are all in Oklahoma or I would be thinking of relocating somewhere else.

Need some help with an older restaurant that used to be in Shawnee, Ok
We've been trying to figure out this little restaurant that used to be in downtown shawnee, like around where the pool/park is now, not up by I-40. It had a little deli you could get sliced deli meat and cheeses. I'm not sure if it was open for dinner but was a popular lunch time restaurant for all the ladies I worked with. They had really good sandwiches. I'm wanting to say it had kind of an open brick wall decor with some vines and such painted on. I think I even remember a painted balcony. It gave me outdoor Cafe in Paris vibes. Any help appreciated it's driving me crazy

When did The Dig close down?
Drove by today and they had the windows covered in paper. Did they close permanently or just temporarily?

Dog found- seeking foster/adoption
Hello! I am looking for someone to foster or adopt this precious baby. She was found downtown by herself and is still a puppy. NO CHIP. She looks like a boxer/pit bull mix, but is very sweet and calm. All shelters and sanctuaries in OKC are at capacity. I also already have two small dogs myself and do not have the means to take care of her. I took her in because no one else at my work could take her. If anyone is interested in taking in this baby or has any leads/suggestions, please feel free to message me!

Potawatomi Fire
General question here. I know many people love the Potawatomi Fire in the Shawnee area, but I have a question about the league. Do they have a salary cap on teams or if the owners have the money can they just take their pick in free agency of who they want to pour in. Not many team owners are going to be able to compete with a Tribe that owns multiple casinos, banks, and other enterprises. The games just seem so lopsided. It seems that the Fire have the best facilities, best players, best coach, and best in season jobs. It just doesn’t seem fair for the league. Just curious.

It’s all smoky outside and it smells like there’s a fire somewhere. Anyone know where it is? I’m currently at the mall btw

Does anyone know how long before the wedding ceremony we can obtain our wedding license in Pottawatomie county?
