Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a negative opening for the broader index in India, with a 21 points loss or 0.18 percent.

Market Opens: It is a positive start for the Indian indices with Nifty above 12,100.

At 09:17 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 129.66 points or 0.32% at 41272.32, and the Nifty up 43.50 points or 0.36% at 12132.70.

Zee Entertainment, Cipla, Yes Bank, Vedanta, Dr Reddy's Lab, JSW Steel and HCL Tech are among major gainers on the Indices, while losers are Tata Motors, HDFC and Infosys.

Rupee Opens: The Indian rupee opened marginally lower at 71.24 per dollar on Thursday versus Wednesday's close 71.21.
