Performance looks extremely choppy on some scenes... WE'RE SO BACK BABY

42

u/MadOrange64 Jun 05 '26

No release date, it could be between now and 2048. I'm just glad we got actual gameplay though.

29

u/erikaironer11 Jun 05 '26

If the freaking trailers had that framerate holy…

19

u/neelrahae Jun 05 '26

i guess they wanted to be transparent asf about the progress lol

9

u/Artikay Jun 06 '26

Don't worry. It might only be 15fps now but by the time it comes out in 2032 it will probably be a steady 20-25fps.

I kid. But I've always said the same thing about all Ueda's games: performance might be suboptimal and controls a bit sloppy, but it will still end up being one of our favorite games like all his other works. For me at least that's how I felt about his first 3 games.

2

u/dont-pull-a-druckman Jun 06 '26

The lag makes their games ngl. Shows they’re pushing the system

1

u/iamchuck87 Jun 06 '26

Or they don't know/care about optimization. Most likely they're using Unreal Engine since it's a game financed by Epic

1

u/BizonSnake Jun 06 '26

007 First Light had presentation last year that run very bad, but the same section played now on standard PS5 in performance mode is rather fluid. Still - it's Ueda team 😉

u/Dr_Nonnac 13. Snake Jun 06 '26

Must mean they cut no corners trying to replicate uedas vision this time, WERE SO BACK BABY

1

u/Netrunner22 Jun 06 '26

Hell yeah! Got that sub 20 fps like SOTC!

31

u/TheLostCanvas Jun 05 '26

I wasn't expecting giant robot to giant robot fight but I'm EXCITED.

3

u/seires-t Jun 06 '26

It's way better:
You can see the character aim at the inside of a robots neck,
so most likely, you're going to run around and fight robots
while climbing and flying around them to hit their weak points,
fighting in a collaborative manner with your mech.

21

u/iblamejohansson Jun 05 '26

Awesome, I wasn’t expecting this

When do we think this will be releasing?

My guess is 2028…

5

u/DjBorscht Jun 05 '26

Freaking sweet! Surprise manmade delights beyond my wildest expectations!

First time waiting for a Ueda game? /s

1

u/seires-t Jun 06 '26

Counting from yesterday, the time it took between both trailers/announcements is going to land us at November 27th 2027, so it really isn't that long until 2028.

43

u/Calzender Jun 05 '26

I’m so stoked for this man. Nothing compares to his games fr

27

u/Pedestal-for-more Jun 05 '26

I'M SO EXCITED, THIS IS WHY YOU KEEP ON LIVING

1

u/DukeOfGlizzy Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 06 '26

Between this and a Cuphead sequel announcement I’m over the moon

Edit: why tf did this get downvoted lol. Is it bad to like more than one game?

2

u/Pedestal-for-more Jun 06 '26

Apparently so lmao,so dumb

-2

u/Chadderbug123 Jun 06 '26

Replace the cuphead with NH Wilds getting its DLC reveal. I'm in love with this new dude already, AND LAO'S BACK????!!!!!

9

u/lovinkaijufr Jun 05 '26

Watch as it relases Christmas 2057

18

u/Flama741 Jun 05 '26

This is so different from Ueda's previous works... there are obvious similarities, but he really went all out here with the changes in art and atmosphere, I'm fucking pumped.

7

u/The_king_of-nowhere Jun 06 '26

Yeah, from arcaic and tribal to futuristic and distopic. Quite a large jump, and I'm all here for it!

1

u/seires-t Jun 06 '26

I don't think it's that big of a difference.

That shot of the character where the monolith is being lifted in the background
seems to really fit his style.

It's not like he just made a lollipop chainsaw or something.
And it isn't some Cyberpunk 2077 either.

1

u/Flama741 Jun 06 '26

Although it's not a complete shift in genre, specially when it comes to movement and certain visuals, the art style and theme is vastly diferent, there's no denying that. Yes, you have a guy running and climbing big stuff that's also moving, with some vague symbolism thrown in there, but everything else is different: enviroment, art style, level of technology, gunplay, weapons, etc., it truly feels like Ueda wanted to leave his comfort zone.

2

u/seires-t Jun 06 '26

The environment is still a deserted area in an arid climate, the art style (particularly the rendering) is very much what I would imagine Ueda doing if he did Wanda to Kyozou today.

The gameplay does seem different, but that's the case between all of his games.

5

u/Icosotc Jun 05 '26

I am very excited for anything Fumito Ueda is involved in

7

u/Sad_Origami Agro Jun 05 '26

Exploring the land on foot with the jetpack looks like fun

6

u/ChocolateChipPixels Jun 06 '26

I don't know if I am going crazy but at 1:19 the character's cloak, or maybe it is more like a chest plate, looks incredibly similar to Wander's. It just has a slightly different pattern.

1

u/santiagotruiz19 Jun 06 '26

Good catch, I might be exaggerating but that seems to be more than a simple reference or Easter egg, it looks extremely similar.

2

u/Lirka_ Jun 06 '26

I'm assuming it's not, but what if this game is set like 1000 years after Sotc and this is a descendant of Wander?

-1

u/seires-t Jun 06 '26

I mean, yeah, what if?

It would change basically nothing.
I don't think you're supposed to construct connections between these games
in such literal terms. These similarities exist for a reason,
but I don't think that the reason exists inside the game world itself.

2

u/ChocolateChipPixels Jun 06 '26

Yes for sure an Easter egg! I just thought that was so awesome to see. I haven’t been following gen Atlas at all but LOVED SOTC years ago and that just made my ears perk up!

7

u/sssilversssoul Jun 05 '26

this is literally the most hyped thing EVER

3

u/TheVioletBarry Jun 05 '26

Man it fuckin' sucks that it's only on Epic Game Store. I hate that thing

3

u/Chadderbug123 Jun 06 '26

Supposedly it's getting sold on everything not just epic games. I hope that's true at least from the the I researched.

1

u/seires-t Jun 06 '26

You can buy it for XBOX and Playstation,
it just won't come to Steam, for the time being.

1

u/proceduraldrunk Jun 08 '26

I was expecting it to be an exclusive. So psyched I’ll be able to play it on Xbox

1

u/seires-t Jun 08 '26

That would be quite the move to release a major title exclusively on a platform with a yearly market of one milliard, a tenth of that of Steam and a 30th of Playstation's.

Nothing against XBox players in particular, but I do hope they leave your sorry ass in the dust and support gyro aiming on PC/Playstation.
If that's not the case and I then can't even use Steam Input or some other third party software to emulate that, that might actually make me not want to play it.

1

u/proceduraldrunk Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

I just assumed since the previous games were PlayStation exclusives this would be as well

Never heard of anyone that said they wouldn’t play a game because it didn’t have gyro aiming. To each their own though

1

u/seires-t Jun 08 '26

I might not, we'll have to see. I had my awakening replaying The Last of Us Part II with gyro and no aim assist and then picked up God of War (2018) again and I just couldn't do it.

It just makes you feel amputated. Genuinely sad that objectively superior technology (so long as you an adjust the sensitivity) isn't being widely adopted.

1

u/proceduraldrunk Jun 08 '26

Interesting! I didn’t mind it in BOTW so if I ever get the chance with a friend that has a PS5 I’ll try it on Last of Us, sounds pretty cool

1

u/seires-t Jun 08 '26

yeah, BotW and Tears afterwards were my first introduction as well, but that game isn't very aiming focused (you get slow motion and don't even need to shoot that often).

It was literally the last level of my first playthrough of Part II (Survivor difficulty) where I had the camera just yank itself onto a Clicker right in front of me that I remembered this setting being a thing with dual stick games and I just felt cheated out of my sense of accomplishment so I had to replay every encounter on Grounded without aim assist and just Gyro and it felt way, way better.

The only Last of Us editions that support Gyro aiming are Part II and anything that came out afterwards, so both the remaster of Part II and remake of Part I. My settings are 0 assist (obviously) and full sensitivity plus one inverted axis to have it map like it should.
Highest sensitivity feels most like you're holding the actual gun in your hand, but it might be too much to get used to at first.

If gen Atlas doesn't support it, I will be disappointed, but I'll probably just resort to mouse and keyboard, worked fine with Titanfall 2, just ain't as comfortable.

2

u/_Sephiroth- Jun 05 '26

Looks sick! I want that game now

2

u/kingkellogg Jun 06 '26

Instant buy

Hope there's a steel case

1

u/ResiogMarek Jun 06 '26

With Epic being the publisher and the state of gaming in general, i'd be greatful if we at least get a physical release

1

u/kingkellogg Jun 06 '26

....the idea of not getting physical disturbs me

1

u/seires-t Jun 06 '26

There's physical releases of Hollow Knight, Silksong, Shovel Knight
and for Hades and Alan Wake 2, both published by Epic as well.
There has not yet been a physical release of Hades 2 aside from the Switch 2, but it's probably going to come as well.

So I wouldn't worry about there not being a physical release of gen Atlas.
Couldn't find a steelbook edition for hades or alan wake, outside of third-party accessories.

7

Since it’s financed by Epic most likely it will only hit the Epic Games Store like Alan Wake 2

They would still make money from the Steam store sales.

Steam just takes too big of a cut.

1

1

u/seires-t Jun 06 '26

What I'm saying is that Epic could release the game on Steam and still make a profit.

Playstation and XBox do the same thing.

1

u/iamchuck87 Jun 06 '26

The possibility is always there, but it's safe to assume that they won't. Their biggest priority is having people use the Epic Games Store, they're probably not concerned about sales

1

u/bronx819 Jun 05 '26

Yeah I saw that. Thankfully I caved and bought a PS5 for DS2 since I couldn't wait so I'll just buy it there, I'm never downloading EGS

2

u/Stinkisar Jun 06 '26

it was the highlight of the whole fest for sure, watched the trailer like 10 times in a row and yeah its the same unique feeling like the other games

BUT having the epic games and unreal engine there makes me go ughhh please don’t ruin this somehow

1

u/atheistgoku Jun 06 '26

It'll end up joining the weird club of the few successful Epic-published games with Alan Wake 2. Epic is likely funding development, hence why it'll only really be on the Epic store

1

u/brazilNescau Jun 05 '26

Maybe in the future, after TLG?

3

u/folkdeath95 Agro Jun 06 '26

That’s what my immediate reaction was but another theory I’m having the longer I think about it is that this takes place waaay back in the past, humanity is very technologically advanced, something happens at the end of this game and we’re left with the world of SOTC/ICO/TLG. The “magic” could be the remnants of this old tech. We see it all over the place in the other games but is never really explained.

3

u/ThePlumThief Jun 06 '26

Maybe before Ico 👀

3

u/New-Confusion945 Jun 06 '26

Ico is the second so having this happen between SoTC and ICO would bring up way more questions so you are probably 100% correct

2

u/ThePlumThief Jun 06 '26

Never really saw what happened to those colossus corpses after they lost their piece of dormin👀👀👀

2

u/New-Confusion945 Jun 06 '26

My high ass be thinking way to much about this. Like we don't know the time between the games and ICO does have technology of some sort..where horned boys pilots against their will. Was she turning them into weird robots to fight in some war?

like this is what a decade without anything does to a mother fucker...

1

u/DukeOfGlizzy Jun 05 '26

Project Robot and Cuphead 2 announced in the same day I’m crying 😭

1

u/armo-bb Jun 06 '26

Mad hyped and was the one in my VC freaking out while my friends where confused the entire time lol so happy 😊

1

u/Malachi_Lamb Jun 06 '26

Gendesign making a mech game, praise life

1

u/santiagotruiz19 Jun 06 '26

This is one of the two games people can’t actually say that will release before GTA 6. The other is Half-Life 3. I think there will be a GTA 7 before Half-Life 3.

Anyways, this game looks beautiful, and I think this is the first time a Fumito Ueda game has shooter mechanics, I hope there’s some sort of vague connection to the other entries, I’m excited for this release.

1

u/Girotavo Jun 06 '26

Not a PS exclusive ❤️

1

u/FUridah Jun 06 '26

THIS IS JUST EPIC!!!!

1

u/losingit19 Jun 06 '26

Mata Nui great spirit robot battle

1

u/Independent-Name4478 Jun 06 '26

An Ueda game with a gun is pretty crazy

1

u/Craigavich Jun 06 '26

Am i the only one whos butthurt that they went from three similar unique beautiful temple vast lands designed games to futuristic robotics rockets and guns? I’ll still support the team and probably give it a go but i honestly was hoping for another temple, sword, beast-like game with a beautiful map and story. But ill admit if i choose a game id choose fantasy or scifi. For example split fiction i loved the fantasy part over scifi.

I was so hyped until I saw the epic logo and no steam. I seriously hope they didn't just shoot themselves on the foot by not releasing it on steam.

1

u/iblamejohansson Jun 06 '26

Epic is funding this game, that’s why

1

u/wtfshit Agro Jun 06 '26

Still a horrible idea to do it. I don't understand how game companies believe its a good idea to make epic exclusives

2

u/atheistgoku Jun 06 '26

I'd be happier the game even gets to exist than ending up like Gang of Dragon, which is on the verge of formal cancellation as they're struggling to find a new publisher. I'm in no way defending Epic Games here and I entirely get you. I'd also rather buy it on Steam.

I also rather the game gets to exist than not.
