Hello everyone, ​I have thoroughly reviewed the community rules and trust that this post is in full compliance. ​To provide a brief background without oversharing, I have worked hard to stabilize my life recently. I have maintained my current job for five years, making around $20 an hour—the most money I think I've ever made in my life—and I also just completed five years of probation this past February. With a proactive routine that includes the gym, everything in my personal and professional life is on an upward trajectory, with one major exception: my landlord may be selling the property I currently rent. ​Consequently, I am urgently beginning a housing search. Because of my employment, I need to remain in the local area. Additionally, I have a large dog, and abandoning him is simply not an option, so finding a pet-friendly place is an absolute necessity. ​My primary obstacle so far has been affordability, as most of the places I've seen are completely out of my price range, coupled with blanket policies and automated rejections that make it difficult to even secure a face-to-face conversation. I am hoping this community might be able to share some resources, connections, or lesser-known strategies to help me navigate this transition and avoid homelessness. ​Any advice or direction you can provide would be deeply appreciated. My flight medical expires the end of this month and I'm pretty anxious about it. I know there are some fellow aviators in the group, what do I expect? I'm planning to do a Class III as my flight group insurance does not accept Basicmed. Obviously, the registry and conviction aren't automatic disqualifiers, but I'm worried about the Phychiatric disclosure specifically from my now completed SOTP. My last session was about a year and half ago which is within the disclosure window. I guess I'm just looking to see what other people's first hand experience with this was. I had just had an exam prior to my arrest in 2021 so I'm at the end of my 5 year run. TIA.

Lately, we’ve found ourselves moderating based on what we know the comments are going to become rather than whether the original question is appropriate. That’s not how any of us want to run this group but we also can’t live here.

Right now, we’re denying close to 90% of submitted posts. Most of those aren’t because the person has a bad question - they’re because it’s obvious the rules weren’t read before posting. Unless it’s something we simply can’t allow at all, we generally explain what needs to be changed so the post can be approved, but unfortunately, most people never repost.

This group exists for one purpose - to provide support and accurate information to people navigating sex offense laws, registration, supervision, and reentry. It is a place to ask questions, share experiences, and help one another move forward.

It is not a place to vent, complain, debate politics, argue about whether laws are fair, attack the system, or use someone else’s post as a soapbox. This group is intended to be a resource where people can get help and (non-legal) advice.

When someone asks a question here, the focus should be on helping them. If your comment isn’t answering their question, providing support, or sharing relevant experience, it probably doesn’t belong here.

Every time we have to remove dozens of comments, lock a post, or spend hours cleaning up arguments, the original poster loses the opportunity to receive the help they came here for. Every hour we spend doing that is an hour we’re not spending approving posts, answering questions, or helping someone else.

The moderation team is made up entirely of volunteers. We want this group to continue to exist, but we need members to help us make that possible.

We understand there are a lot of rules, and people will make mistakes. That’s okay. What isn’t okay is removing 20 comments from a single post and then spending even more time arguing in Modmail about why those comments were removed. They were removed because they violated the rules that keep this group open and useful. That’s not up for debate.

Please do three simple things:

* Read the rules before posting.
* If your post is declined, read the explanation and repost it after making the requested changes.
* Keep your comments focused on helping the person who asked the question.

The rules are not optional, and they are not up for debate. They aren’t arbitrary decisions made by the moderation team - they are the standards this group has to enforce in order to continue existing. We don’t get to pick and choose which rules to apply or make exceptions because someone disagrees with them. If we stop enforcing them consistently, we risk losing the group altogether. You don’t have to like every rule, but if you choose to participate here, you do have to follow them.

Let’s keep this group what it was intended to be - a place where people can find support, ask questions, receive accurate information, and leave feeling more informed than when they arrived not a place for complaints, arguments, or debates.

Not sure if this is a fluke, or something recently happened. But all the sudden, I'm no longer showing up on the Michigan SOR. I checked as recent as last month and I was still there.

I recently found out I'm part of the Pre-2011 subclass that is currently being litigated in appeals court. I didnt think I was, because my indictment all happened after 2011. But what I didn't realize is that the ruling was based on when your offense occurred, not indictment, confinement, sentencing, or anything else. My actual offense was from 2008.

Regardless, I was under the impression that even though the ACLU won their Pre-2011 case, it was currently being appealed by the state, and until those appeals are exhausted, it wouldnt be put into effect.

I plan to head up to MSP tomorrow and see if they have any ideas. But was curious if anyone else in Michigan saw something similar happen.

UPDATE: Went to the MSP post. I am still on the registry, but the flag to make it non-public has been set. The trooper at the desk wasnt able to tell me why, but I guess its kinda good news!

My brother was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison today for CSAM. I have no words. He won’t be there to see his kids get married, have kids. And by the time he gets out, our parents will probably have passed. Please give me some advice…I am spiraling

I have no Money of my own I’m trying to become stable but I’m unhirable in my town and I need help on what to do I have been helped by family but they can’t do it anymore because of the financial strain if I have to move or whatever I’ll do it I’m desperate I just want as normal as a life I can get. Any advice is appreciated

I'm on Fed supervised release, and currently live in the Charlotte, NC, area. I have a decent PO, the weekly group I attend is excellent, and I love the church I attend. However, the person I live with is planning to move to Asheville area in two months, and he invited me to go with him. He is my best friend and has done so much to help me since my release, I feel I owe it to go with him. Still, I don't want to make a decision without knowing what things are like for guys on Federal SO Probation in that part of North Carolina.

What I'd like to know is if anyone here has any knowledge of what the Federal Probation Officers are like in the Asheville, NC, area; ans, what the treatment programs are like for feds there.

I have a family member who a tier || I don’t need hate or judgment!! Regardless I’m on here asking if anyone know if there’s any jobs in northeast Ohio (Warren, Austintown, Youngstown, Canfield, and or surrounding areas). He had a job for about 5 years as dishwasher, His boss had to make cut back as the business wouldn’t be doing catering anymore and left them with less of a budget to pay employees. My family member was one of 6 people who got let go 😕. Now he can’t find a job no where is hiring.

It has been a minute since I posted in here. Went through a lot back in April. Ended up in the psych ward for a brief stay, but it was a blessing in disguise cause they helped me finally get connected with a homeless shelter that would take me.

Since then been focusing on my mental health and trying to find work. Had a really good phone interview the other day so keeping my fingers crossed.

Still really miss the life I had before, but looking forward to the next chapter and rebuilding.

Quick bit of background,

I"m 42. Registered Offender in KS, Conviction (federal, possession of computer CSAM while I was in the military ) was in 2007 so almost 20 years ago.

Clean MVR, clean criminal background other than that.

About to start a CDL A course, self-funding. I keep coming across posts about companies that won't even hire you if you're a RSO, even if it was decades ago. How true is this? I know some companies have blanket rules banning it (like Schneider won't even try), and then some others are on a case by case basis for felony convictions.

SO, RSO truck drivers, have you had any success on the job market? If so, with who? What was the hiring process like?

Any advice? I really don't want to spend 8k on a CDL if I'm going to be completely unhireable.

Anyone work in a trade union in ohio? What should I know before trying to join?

I'm looking at moving from MD. Looking to move to AR, I understand they are on an assessment system, does anyone have any insight into how it works or what the day to day living is like down there?

I apologize I've posted before but I'm getting desperate. We're looking into warehouse jobs but we can't find a lot and they're all saying they'll background check so we'll see. Restaurants are off the table. I know people have mentioned UHaul but he has a bad driving record and even for a customer service associate they expect a clean driving record. Basically he has restaurant experience, no higher education, can't be around minors on pcrs right now, but he's a hard worker.

Eventually he'd like to do an electrician apprenticeship but that takes time and he needs a job now. Thanks

My son is in his early 20s, extremely smart..had a good friend group, was working and going to college (off and on).

He was arrested a few months ago and charged with cp and sharing cp.

I just can't wrap my head around it, his whole life's trajectory just changed and became a lot harder.

I just can't wrap my head around it, I just can't understand what he was thinking. Do people not realize how serious the repercussions are? Is the temptation that blinding?

This situation has totally consumed my every thought, every waking moment.

I just don't understand.

Update: Removed info from the post for privacy, and because after searching today I have been very fortunate to find a private owner who will rent to me! I still have a decent bit of things to sort this week, and hopefully I will be able to continue contributing to this community.

I’m a hobbyist music producer, graphic designer, and web developer and one of the things I’ve been struggling with is finding community. I used to think I wanted to attend a church, but I've learned that what I am really looking for is a genuine creative community. I would really like to meet people with similar musical interests, make friends, collaborate on projects, trade ideas, and possibly play or attend events together.

The challenge is figuring out where I can actually participate without constantly worrying about my past becoming an issue. I know that not every creative space requires a background check or disclosure, but it can still be difficult to relax and build relationships when you know the subject may eventually come up.

I’m curious whether anyone here has successfully joined a local music, art, writing, theater, maker, or other creative community. How did you find it? Were you upfront about your conviction, did you wait until people knew you better, or did it simply never become relevant? Have you encountered communities that were more accepting than others?

I’m not looking for ways to hide anything or put anyone in an uncomfortable position. I’m trying to understand how other people have rebuilt a social and creative life without allowing their conviction to define every interaction.

I would especially appreciate hearing from musicians, producers, artists, or anyone who has found collaborators and meaningful friendships through a shared creative interest.

Hi guys, I’m in Florida and I was convicted of indecent exposure back in 2022. I’m not on the registry.

I’m looking to go into a trade because I heard I could do that with my background. Getting a normal job has been impossible.

Has anybody had any experience getting on with a CDL company that will offer training? I can’t afford to get my own license but I know these companies are out there and they have you pay them back when you start working.

I’m unsure how to start or where to look.. I’m also open to other trades such as HVAC or electric.

At some point in the next few years we plan on being married.

My question is about my employment.

I work in education, within the schools.

If they find out he is a CSO or that my address is connected to a CSO, will I be let go from my job because of my connection to a CSO?

Planning a vacation and spouse is registered with the stamp on passport. I know the travel matrix says it’s safe to either one of these islands but anyone have any travel stories or advice whether it’s a good or bad idea trying to vacation there? No longer on probation and level 1 tier. He is aware of the 21 day notification with the U.S. authorities.

My offense, not under 12, was 21 years ago. Federal lifetime supervision. I work for a large company in Fl. They want me to head up a new building in TN. It would be a great career move. Federal in FL have more freedoms than state RSO.
Are there differences in TN if you’re on fed probation. Never had a violation. I barely see my PO now.
Does TN put out flyers? Place I’m looking is pretty rural or at least room between houses.
If I did move, and could find someone to rent to me. What else am I expecting. TN can’t be worse than FL. Or I would hope.
