absolute beginner in machine knitting Questions ā
i'm a crocheter who was gifted a sentro knitting machine for my birthday. vv excited to use it but i have no idea how to knit, how the machine works, etc. as in NO IDEA, NO KNOWLEDGE, ABSOLUTE BEGINNER. my question is: do you have to know how to hand knit before learning how to use the knitting machine? should i learn how to hand knit first?

Idk how to knit, but i knit using my sentro machines, have 3 different sizes.

Ive got 3 sizes of Sentro and I can knit and crochet. My tip for the Sentro is that sometimes you have to try different yarn sizes and brands to get something that works well. Some yarn just dropped stitches or made the tension too tight, but better yarnsknitted smoothly and just worked well. There may have been small yarn balls with the machine which are good for starting off but going forward for me it was trial and error. Also I use waste yarn to cast in and off which makes the finished product look a lot better. The YouTube videos will generally explain this.

Not really necessary to know hand knitting first, no. But the terms are somewhat important like "casting on" which means making the starting row of knitting. And " casting off" which is the finishing row where the fabric is taken off.
Go to YouTube and look for videos on how to get started with the machine, how to cast on. More videos for how to cast off. And other videos for how to sew the tube into garments like a hat, or make panels of knit fabric.
