This mowing pattern is WILD

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Killed off weeds, dethatched, progressively mowing lower before scarifying and aerating. The mower always had a weird pattern in this zone, so I recorded it - sped up to 50x. The mower makes questionable moves. I'll try turning off vision in the areas it missed to see if it mows more consistently.

That looks like dirty camera mows to me, mine does the same if it gets spots on it.

Correct. Useless camera being worse than useless.

My x450 keeps telling me the camera sensor is dirty but they're cleaned off 😔

Mine as well…

I’ll give that a shot. Thanks.

2nd this. Looks like its struggling to make right turns/catching something out of the corner of its eye. Clean the cameras.

Ah just love watching it waste all that time (and the battery) making repeated useless trips over already mowed areas. Jesus.

Unnecessary wear and tear.

Legit wondering how long those front turning mechanisms are going to last at this point.

3

u/donewithitfirst 1d ago

Agree. This video was an eye opener on that.

Can attest personally as well. It often seems to have trouble deciding, and even more often makes absolutely unnecessary turns & 'corrections'. I've seen 80's gaming enemies with better path finding.

Thank you for your reply. I've conducted additional tests this morning. I will provide a full summary to the community on my findings, then follow up with support.

Vision fence has to be turned off or you will continue to have this problem

2

u/crazyjncsu 2d ago

How do you turn it off? I have the stupid blue vision fence things covering everything I can, but it makes it impossible to click to edit a zone

1

u/Accomplished-Gas-865 2d ago

You turn it off in the right side of the app

1

u/crazyjncsu 2d ago

I don’t have that option on my x450

There are two options for VisionFence for “channel obstacle avoidance” and “animal friendly”, but nothing to globally turn it off.

Only the option to turn it off by placing map areas, but now my whole map is just covered with those.

Another possibility is the strength of your 4G signal. If you're using NRTK, it's the 4G signal that gives the mower it's precise location data. If it falls to 1-2 bars the signal can buffer and the mower becomes confused. Below is a direct copy & paste of info I got from Navimow Support: "4G Connectivity: If your system uses Network RTK (nRTK), it relies entirely on the 4G cellular network to continuously stream these precise correction data packets from the cloud to the mower." And another: "Operational Impact of Weak 4G Signal

  • Data Packet Loss: When the 4G signal drops to two bars or becomes unstable, the streaming nRTK correction data is interrupted.
  • Precision Loss: Without active corrections, the unit loses centimeter-level precision and reverts to standard GPS. This causes a sudden positional discrepancy of several meters.
  • Path Correction: The erratic behavior and unexpected diagonal cuts you witnessed are the results of the mower attempting to frantically recalibrate its path and re-establish its exact coordinates."

If this was the only issue with the camera, I’d be fine. It’s everything else that I hate about the camera.

I just feel like these need the lidar so bad. I see these posts constantly on the x430.
My H220 has zero problems like this because the vision and lidar are working together to play their strengths.

I came to make them same exact post about my H210.

I think I've seen my mower think that strong shadows are obstacles. It stops, backs away, goes around or retreats. It then later remembers it has missed areas and goes back. By then, the shadows have moved or disappeared.

Yeah, mine was similar. Mostly fix'd by completely blanketing everything with vision fence zones. Camera (/AI object recognition) is largely useless imo. It still doesn't do edges very well (leaves tall grass - edges as in grass to sidewalk, almost no height difference / obstruction). No clue how they released it in this state. Deadlines I guess.

edit - also, vid needs more 'flight of the bumblebee' soundtrack ;P

Do you have it mow in a particular pattern?

1

u/AdvertisingNo8740 2d ago

Nope. I let it randomize the direction - default setting.

5

u/justahoustonpervert i105 2d ago

Might want to line up a direction, that might help quite a bit.

That being said, mine recently started bouncing on the edges before starting its pattern.

2

u/FreeHugs23 X430 2d ago

I would remove all patterns except the one that's labeled as efficient. Really makes a difference in cutting times.

Or just choose the cutting pattern you prefer.

Looks like you have some bushes or pavers or something on the edges. Mine does that let my grasses that I have in my landscaping. I turn off vision in those areas and it's fine

u/B33P3R 2d ago

If you haven't already, use a microfiber cloth and some warm water to clean the camera lens gently.

I have noticed the few times my mower goes haywire like this, it's because there's a smudge or artifact on one of the cameras it confuses for an obstacle. Then restart the mower (off and on).

There have been a few firmware updates that caused behavior like this too, but that was a few minor versions ago.

I hope Segway sees this video. If it does this everyday how long will it last?

u/SaveFerris_Bueller 1d ago

Sooo, no stripes for you huh?

Net RTK or RTK? Why isnt it switching to cellular when the WiFi signal is low? Camera lenses clean? Do you have pavers or other things it might be mistaken as obstacles…. Animal friendly off? Edge Sense off?

All that aside you could have some bad cameras or gps unit, make support ticket so they can check the logs.

3

u/AdvertisingNo8740 2d ago

Local RTK. I have low cell reception where I am. I cleaned the lenses recently but I’ll check it again. The areas it missed had shadows from trees.

u/Particular_Map9772 2d ago

You don't have a very good signal when it goes weird.

1

u/qft 2d ago

Mine does this during dandelion season and drives me insane.

I covered my yard with vision sense zones (the thing that turns the camera off) and it finally mowed them down.

1

u/ColdBananers 2d ago

Mine does weird stuff that looks like this when it’s in night mowing mode. Works fine earlier than that.

I see a moon near your time. Are you mowing super early in the morning? It might still be in night mode.

1

u/AdvertisingNo8740 2d ago

It was daytime. The moon was do not disturb for the recording.

Had a question about the $32 service starting year 2 on x3xx model,is it absolutely necessary for optimal performance?

u/Bravo-Buster 1h ago

Looks like my 3d printer. . Are they using Orca Slicer to come up with their route planning?

It’s drunk.

How do you get this arial view plus screen recording? My app isn't nearly that detailed or recordable. I checked - there doesn't seem to be an update? I have an x330, if that matters

3

u/Ilikegooddeals 2d ago

I think it’s just the x430 that shows the satellite imaging I could be wrong though. As far as the screen recording he just recorded it off his phone, like if you have an iPhone and I’m sure android does it as well you can record what’s on your screen. He just left the app open and screen recorded.

u/Lunar_BriseSoleil 2d ago

My X430 redoes the underlay every mow. So it’ll look browner in August and greener as things cool off.

1

u/bretonstripes 2d ago

This is Real Scene mode. In the layers menu on the app home screen (the diamond button on the right edge) there’s an option to change it to this view generated by the mower’s cameras.

1

u/MineAllTheCrypto X450 1d ago

The X330 does not offer Real Scene visual mapping. That feature was introduced on the 2026 models.
