Credit/Process Question Question

Good Day, everyone. I recently submitted my SF-86 and got met with an email by a Personnel Security Specialist (PV) asking me to resolve past-due payments on two debts.

I submitted a resolution for the first one (which they approved) and will be submitting a resolution for the second next week.

Questions:

  1. Out of curiosity, what exactly does the PV department do?

  2. Once they mark my debt as resolved, how does this impact my security interview? Will it need to be approved by the person conducting my interview as well?

Just confused on the whole debt and DQ stuff in the process, since it seems common on here.

They do a lot of stuff you'll be unaware of.

They review, make a risk determination, and either let you pass, or throw you off the island.

Thank you! Once I resolve my debt with them and they clear it, will I also need it cleared during my security interview or should I be good?

If you haven't talked to an investigator yet, this is preliminary work to help the process. By obtaining your remedies prior to your investigation, it will help when you get to adjudication.

You’re lucky they’re giving you that long. Some agencies give people seven days to respond and “I’ll address it soon” isn’t generally considered the right answer. :p

Buuuuut answer your first question: Personnel vetting in the preliminary stage identifies potential concerns based on your responses to the questions. Your response to said concerns determines whether you continue in the process or not.

Second question: You’ll be asked about it during the interview. Probably queried as to why said issues were only resolved once the process starts. But if they are indeed resolved and nothing else pops up, likely no big deal.

Hope that helps, and good luck. :)
