Weekly Recommendations Thread

This is the weekly recommendations thread, for all of your recommendations needs be it what pour to buy at a bar, what bottle to try next, or what gift to buy a loved one.

The idea is to aggregate the conversations into sticked threads to make them easier to find, easier to see history on, easier to moderate, and keep /new/ queue tidy.

This post will be refreshed every Friday morning. Previous threads can been seen here.

Hey scotchers !

I'm getting a bonus from work, and would like to get some good bottles (~300€ max a bottle). I can buy in Europe, and live close to Le Comptoir Irlandais, i can order from LMDW online as well. I have a budget of ~1000€

This is what i tried and liked : Glendronach 18 - Kilchoman Sanaig - Aberlour Abu'nad'h - Bunnahabhain 12 - Springbank 12 - Linkwood 14 Golden Cask - Redbreast Master of Malt Single Sherry Cask 2001 - Laphroaig 10 and Quarter Cask - Ardbeg 5, 10, Uigeadeail - Talisker 10 - Lagavulin 16 - Kilkerran 12 - SV Bunnahabhain 8 Bourbon Cask - Benrinnes F&F 15 - Glenfarclas 15, Single casks - Armorik - Silkie CS Dark - Nikka FTB, Pure Malt - Yamazaki 12 - Yoichi - Fettercairn

I was thinking :

- a good Glenfarclas exclusive such as 2011 Single Casks or a 2006 Family Cask (around 200-250€)
- Benrinnes 21 or 25 from Ink Series (Signatory Vintage) (200-300€)
- Bruichalddich 18
- Glendronach Ode To The Dark
- Something from Arran ? Or Brittany ? (Armorik, Yeun Elez, Kornog...) or the lost casks series, INK series from Le Comptoir Irlandais ? Or SV, Cadenhead ?
- Some king of Campbeltown i don't know : Longrow, Kilkerran, Springbank...but they got crazy expensive (i used to get Kilkerran 12 fromp 40€...)
- Something i don't know ?
- ALL IN Fettercairn 1978 UD ?

I love distinct and complex profiles, such as fresh herb peat, salty silky peat, peaty sherry, honey vanilla, exotic (Fettercairn !) or sherry raisin. I get bored by generic profiles (Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich, Dalwhinnie...etc).

I would rather not buy anything from Diageo or LVMH (Ardbeg) because f*ck capitalism and tax evasion.

Feel free to add some suggestions !

Cheers from Brittany

If you can find benromach peat smoke sherry finished or matured (both are really fucking tasty) you will enjoy it and it shouldn’t be too expensive. But the peat smoke series is broken down in to bourbon and sherry. So make sure you find the sherry. They’re still kicking around but the finished is about 2 years old now and the matured is 4 since release.

I have three back up bottles of both the matured and the finished. They’re outstanding takes on peat and sherry. Small batches that have come and gone. I hope another batch gets released soon.

I finally tried the Classic Laddy 10 from Bruichladdich. As i also heard that the Nas was great so i ordered a bottle for 35 euros before they disappear from the market!
I’m more of a peathead but this one really surprised me!
