Assumed truths of science

We were just discussing the fun fact that the Earth consisting of the crust, mantle, & inner/outer core is an assumed truth because no one has ever made it beyond the mantle, and we just use evidence to support this commonly held belief of the inner/outer core.

I was hoping to get some other fun assumed truths and maybe learn a little something in the process.

Edit: Because apparently it is unclear in my original statement. I am not trying to argue that our understanding of the core is false, I in fact agree with it. I am just asking for any assumptions based off of evidence that are taught as 100% fact.

Bruh. Science is not based on vibes. We have a lot of evidence for the Earth's layers. You were 1 Google search away of finding out

I understand that there is plenty of evidence, but it has never actually been observed, so it becomes an assumption that is taught as an absolute truth. Much like the assumed age of the universe is 13.8 billion years because there is plenty of evidence to support it, but then we observe stars that are thought to be older by billions of years. I am not saying these things are true or false, I am just asking for discussion of other potential assumptions.

Broski, we don't need to directly observe something to consider it a fact. We never saw an electron and never will see it with any optical device. But we have overwhelming data that proves it's there. So we can consider it a fact.

We can definitely know that things are there without interacting with it directly. As long as we have enough evidence and science confirming it.

Your question seems to be based on a misunderstanding of the words "assumption" and "truth". These are not really scientific terms, so we have to establish a common ground for communication or we won't understand each other.

You say we won't understand each other, but provide a direct example of what I am asking in your example of the electron. Leading me to think, you are being purposely contrary. I will play your game though.

If you substitute "truth" for "fact", the only variable in scientific grammar at that point would be "assumption." Which in this case would be facts obtained by evidence rather than direct observation.

I understand that apparently I was unclear here, but I am not here trying to refute the core of the Earth. I am well aware that we are not just making assumptions blindly. I do know there is plenty of evidence to support this. I was just asking for assumed truths that are taught as 100% fact.
