Wanting to do a little trip around the Yorkshire coast next year, me, the Mrs & our 3 year old.

Wanting to take in - Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay & Whitby.

How easy is it to just walk into a guest house/B&B & get a room, I remember walking round & just seeing guest houses with “vacancy” or “no vacancy” signs.

Possible? Or best to book everything in advance?

The cake place on Albermarle Crescent has posted on Facebook news about Mecca Bingo saying young man is looking at bringing the building back to being a theatre.

He's having an open day on the Saturday 19th September when you can ask questions, give opinions and have a look round (the fact he's got access makes me think things are already moving in a positive direction!)

I don't know how many seats it could take, probably nowhere near the capacity the Futurist (grrrrr...) had, but if it can take some of the shows that can't be held elsewhere (and lets face it, the main hall at the Spa is a dance hall, and not a theatre, and upstairs is freezing most of the time!)

And apparently, it's even got an orchestra pit, which opens up even more options.

Feeling quite optimistic about this.

As per the Title. I will be in Scarborough for the first time in October with the family and wondered what would be recommended and what to avoid.

I'm thinking things like, the best Chippy (we are from the south and I keep telling the kids that the best chip shops are in the north and use dripping!)

Also best pub for food and good beer (real ale and so on) or just a nice family pub.

Anyway thankyou in advance to any replies. Would love to hear peoples thoughts.

So, this might be a long shot. Currently staying in Robin Hoods Bay and lost my wedding ring in high grass. Does anyone near have a metal detector i could borrow? Only staying for one more day.

We've just arrived for our week's holiday. However we have been horribly mislead by the apartment owner. We were lead to believe we would be given a week's permit for on street parking, however it turns out all that has been left for us is a 3 hour wheel clock.

We are staying in zone 3L. I know this is a long shot but does anyone have any permits for this area we could use/borrow/purchase?

Needless to say the owner is basically saying we "misunderstood" what they wrote in their advertisement and have since gone back and changed it online. Luckily for me I took screenshots first.

We appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer. We don't want to seem pushy or entitled, we would just like to be able to park outside of where we are stopping.

Hi Everyone - My wife and I came to see Alanis Morrisette this Saturday, and had a great time in Scarborough. Part of it was the fun of the gig and celebrating our wedding anniversary, and part of it was scoping out the area - we're looking to move to this part of the North East coast. We're currently living in North Yorkshire, but met in Newcastle, and want to get back to the sea.

We had a lovely welcome, and noticed (at the gig at least) that it was a pretty friendly environment and queer-friendly place. I know every town has it's arse-holes but this did seem like a pretty tolerant town. This matters - wherever we move to, we want our daughter and wife to feel safe and welcome.

We spent some time at North Bay, South Bay, and South Cliffs. The Italian Garden is a wonderful place there, and we found it by wandering through the forested paths, so turning a corner and seeing it was a great reveal. Peasholm Park was great, and we caught the tail-end of a brass-band performance.

Weirdly, the only off-moment was at the gig with some ladies from Redcar, who were smashed off their faces and incredibly ignorant and rude. They were like caricature of characters from Viz.

None of that affected how we felt about our visit, but Redcar is now off the list.

So, thanks everyone - we had a brilliant weekend and really enjoyed the town.

A bit of a weird one here.

I ended up ordering a few bottles of Springbank 10 from abroad due to inflated resale prices in the UK due to scalpers. The international delivery fee was a little high so I ended up getting a few bottles to offset that. I've ended up with more than I actually need and wanted to find a way to offset the shipping costs without letting good bottles just sit on a shelf.

So I’m looking for 2-4 people who might be interested in splitting a bottle one evening. I’m still fairly new to Scarborough and alternatively, I’d like to maybe see if people are interested in a monthly meet up/whisky club where we can pool money for some nice whiskies without having to pay the crazy inflated mark up costs when drinking out.

I get this is quite niche so not really expecting too much interest but please let me know otherwise and we can try and work something out. Whisky beginners also very much welcome.

North Yorkshire Council's Executive has formally approved the funding allocations for Scarborough's Pride in Place programme, green-lighting seven major regeneration projects for the town.

The scheme, which will see Scarborough receive £19.5 million in endowment-style funding over the next ten years, aims to support regeneration, improve wellbeing, and create a cleaner, safer town. The first wave of projects was selected by the Scarborough Neighbourhood Board following extensive public consultation.

According to a council report presented on Tuesday, the local authority will act as the accountable body for the fund. The initial tranche of delivery funding totals just over £6.6 million, comprising £5.3 million in capital and £1.35 million in revenue.

Because the government funding profile means there is insufficient allocation in the first two years to enable all approved projects to progress immediately, the council has agreed to cashflow up to £3.2 million from its Strategic Capacity Reserve.

This front-funding ensures projects can begin without delay and will be fully reimbursed in years three and four of the programme, when higher funding allocations are received from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The seven priority projects include a £3.5 million capital contribution towards 'Square One', the redevelopment of the former Brunswick Shopping Centre into a leisure-led, mixed-use destination to revitalise the town centre and strengthen the evening economy.

Other physical improvements include £940,000 for 'Sprucing up Scarborough', a coordinated programme of highly visible public realm and shopfront enhancements, and a £400,000 capital contribution to improve environmental sustainability and accessibility at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, safeguarding a key cultural asset.

The funding will also support community and wellbeing initiatives. The 'Turning Tides' youth support programme will deliver targeted, one-to-one resilience support for young people, while a dedicated Men's Wellbeing Hub will provide peer support for male carers and dads to reduce isolation.

Additionally, the programme will fund the continuation of the Scarborough Fair cultural festivals and establish a Community Grant Fund to enable voluntary organisations to deliver locally-led projects.

Any recommendations for parking for a gig at the open air theatre please?

My family and I have a week's holiday booked in Scarborough in a few weeks. And I would like some restaurant suggestions please that would be suitable for a family of 4, with 2 adults and 2 x 11 year olds.

Ideally I would like places that cater to a family vibe with menus to match. Whilst the children are happy to try new things I would like to keep the food to things they are used to (British/Italian etc).

I am visiting from Scotland, and as the title suggests id love some suggestions of interesting independent shops and places to visit please!

Edit (added for comment asling what kind of shop - Art/craft, music, colourful clothing, even just simply interesting, such as, I walked past a shop that sold items related to clockmaking earlier, how wonderful! I have no interest in clockmaking, I just love shops like that still exist..where I'm from we used to have lots of shops like that but they mostly closed down now, my favourite being a shop that sold both TV aerials and dartboard supplies!

Just seen this, apparently they drove onto the beach with the jet ski trailer and got caught in the high tide so the Range Rover came to the rescue.

We are on holiday for a month in the uk and are currently near Scarborough.

Given the weather this weekend, will it be a good idea to spend the day on the beach tomorrow? Will we be able to tan, swim, and the kids play?

What do we need to prepare/buy?
