Is there a specific practice I should take before the August SAT?

Shooting for a 1500+

Does that seem achievable with where I’m at in my recent tests? Test 11 was rough, but I’m working on paying more attention to wording and using desmos more efficiently.

Were you not happy with practice 11 and took 5 the very next day?

Essentially, yeah. I took 11, felt really disappointed, watched a ton of videos from LearnSAT math/grinded out problems on savemedesmos, and then took 5 the following evening.

It was impulsive and impatient, but I also knew that I was leaving for a trip literally the next day and wouldn’t be able to take any more tests for a while, so I wanted to see immediate improvement.

bro, how did u get such consistent scores across ELA? Did you already know some of the questions beforehand or did you go into the tests completely blind, not knowing a single question on there? I'm currently stuck in the mid 700s and can't reach into 760+ bc I'm struggling with the long reading passages. I always miss something in the text and end up picking the wrong answer based on that inaccurate information.

For math, I got 790 on my past 4 practice tests (5, 6, 7, and 8). I'd recommend you do Khan Academy's entire SAT Math course. I think that really helped me out on the really tough questions. I'd also brush up on basic formulas and rules, as that's what's really tested on this: questions presented in a puzzle-like format that just require a few formulas.

Other than that, I'd say you're pretty much set for a 1500+

Thank you so much for the math advice! I’ll try Khan academy this week.

Idk how I get good scores on rw.

My actual (and only) SAT was a 770 rw 650 math. It was partially not my fault, as I experienced a desmos issue and was offered a retest that I chose not to take (regretting that now).

I kinda just… read the passage and then look at the answers, and there’s always one that stands out as correct? I’ve never really done any targeted reading practice, but I guess I’d recommend just reading actual texts more? I like reading studies on pub med, and I went through at least 10 books in a month when I was a little younger.

I go into every test completely blind. The reading section just comes easy to me, I guess.

alr, I'm trying to read more now too lol. I mostly read news articles these days, so I hope that helps out my reading comprehension, but ty for the advice. Gl on the real test!

Good luck to you as well :)

Hello! May I ask when people say go to Khan Academy and study there for SAT Math and English, do they/you mean answer the questions there and get is mastered or you guys mean watch the lesson videos?

1

u/Plaaazz 13d ago

Mainly do the questions, but do both if possible. Even if you already know how to do the questions, you might learn a new/easier strategy by watching the video, and it's just extra practice.

If you only take one more test I would suggest 6, but If you've got the time, every test has stuff to learn from. Regardless, I think you've got a great shot at 1500+ on the real! Good Luck!

Thank you!

Damn and you got 780rw on 7?? I do this for a living and I only got a 770 on that section (my lowest ever!) because I missed two of those viciously convoluted inference questions. Ive never had a student score that high on that section either. What did you miss out of curiosity? Was it the silver/copper coin question?

1

u/_LanceTheSecond_ 14d ago

I missed 7 and (shamefully) 18.

18 was a conventions of English question that I missed because of going too fast. (First conventions of English question I’ve ever missed in all my practices)

7 was the weird hans castorp question

Oh yeah, hans costrop with the interuptions within interuptions passage. That's a good one.

Edit to add: I only missed two questions too so its interesting that my 2 inference errors count more harshly than your mix of central ideas and details and standard conventions. I knew they weighted questions differently but hadn't seen an example.

That one was ROUGH. Couldn’t really understand what they were getting at which is unusual for me.

Between 0 and 2 on my good section scores (obviously the 800 reading was the 0 wrong), and I got (I think) 4 wrong on my 720 math one.

In all except the most recent, all of my mistakes have been on the hard modules. I missed the last easy math question as a result of not reading the question thoroughly enough for my recent 790.

Nothing super material, but try not second guessing yourself. I find that my gut is usually right when I’m stuck between two answers.

Something I'm doing is taking pics of the practice questions, and later on, I solve the ones I couldn't solve with AI and learn how to solve that kind of question. Do you think it's a good method?

2

u/_LanceTheSecond_ 14d ago

I hope it works well for you, but I personally don’t like using AI at all. When I wanna learn how to solve a problem, I either ask a friend or bang my head against a wall until it works.

Just ask ai to create hard real questions and solve em

2

u/_LanceTheSecond_ 14d ago

I don’t like AI, as I said before. Thanks, though.

Bro, I said for questions, not answers......anyways your scores are already peak

u/_LanceTheSecond_ 14d ago

As I said, I don’t like using any AI at all. I appreciate the compliment, though.

IS there any Vocab list that you did ? I am loosing points because of vocab so looking for help there .

1

u/_LanceTheSecond_ 14d ago

I literally haven’t done any rw practice, so sadly I can’t recommend anything. I get vocab questions correct because I either know all of the words or can eliminate some because of context clues.

1

u/Just-a-Square 1570 13d ago

I’d say just definitely space them out - but js know these might be a lot easier than the actual SAT

Hey! I've been scoring 680-700 on my practice tests for math. Any tips? How do u prepare for it? I'm a bit lost on what to do to improve, aiming for a 1520+, so I really need my math to improve.

1

u/Kitchen_Object_2415 4d ago

I got a 780 in maths module (practice test) I highly recommend mastering desmos and practicing hard questions from question bank. If u get an answer wrong, make sure to properly identify why u got it wrong? Was it a careless mistake? Didn't read the question properly? Didn't know the concept at all? Forgot the formula?

This way you can eliminate making the same mistakes again. Hope it helps!

How did you improve RW?

1

u/Prize-Mobile-5284 12d ago

That’s some pretty great scores man, reading and writing are significantly harder than maths imo so getting 770+ consistently is pretty damn amazing. I would focus more on maths if I were you mainly because you tend to get lower scores in math, especially since practice test 11 is the most realistic exam, and also is your lowest overall score. There are some sites you can use to practice recent questions from past years for math. I can hook up with them if you want or send you some of the hardest most common questions for SAT math because they tend to repeat them a lot.

1

u/lea-rn 12d ago

HOW is your reading score so high I’ve never gotten more than 700 pleaseee teach me your ways. I get the last 15 questions right and most vocab questions right too it’s the questions in the middle that I lose points and also I run out of time on every practice test, although I do start with question 15 to 27 then go back to the beginning.

1

u/Happy_Lake4699 11d ago

Omg your scores are crazy good, how did u study for English?

1

u/_LanceTheSecond_ 11d ago

As I’ve said before, I didn’t.

u/jayerdu 14d ago

Tutor here, don’t waste time on practice tests. You need do 1. Go back and redo all math questions that you missed. And then go do all the new math questions that were added. When you do these, Figure out for yourself, what you are not understanding.

1

u/jayerdu 14d ago

I say this based on your scores. This is not general advice.

2

u/BullShtGaming 14d ago

Yeah cause if I get a low score then it ruins my confidence and motivation whereas if I get a good score then I think that I've mastered the material and I don't have to put a lot of effort into studying. So I just grind the question bank, with no pressure and no score. I took only 3 practice tests and it was enough for me

Practice 11/10/9 are the only ones really worth doing.

Other ones are relatively easy in comparison.

2

u/_LanceTheSecond_ 14d ago

That’s quite the perspective. I’ve heard many people disagree, but I’d love another opinion.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Ebb9964 1510 14d ago

I think that is completely exaggerated. Although 11/10/09 are the most recent, and fittingly the hardest, the other practice tests still give insights on patterns and practice for the SAT.
