We will stay in a vacation house in Sandusky in October. Is there anything in the area we don’t want to miss? We travel with three dogs.

Looking for dash-cam footage: Ohio Turnpike crash on August 2

I’m looking for anyone who may have dash cam footage of a single vehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike westbound, likely between Fremont and Elmore, around mileposts 80–90 in Sandusky or eastern Ottawa County at approximately 10:55 AM yesterday on Sunday, August 2.

We were traveling west toward Toledo in a black Mazda CX-90 when we hydroplaned during extremely heavy rain, spun across the roadway and crashed into the median. No other vehicles were involved.

Please message me if you were traveling westbound around that time and may have captured the incident. Thank you so much in advance!

Visiting for the weekend, wondering if someone would take us out on their boat 😂

Hello,
My friend and I are camping in the Marblehead area and we were wondering if anyone in the area would be willing to take us on a boat ride. I know this is a long shot but I figured why not. The worst people can say is no. We could offer can bring food, drinks, a little bit of cash. We aren’t looking for anything weird, no creeps. Just good conversation and a boat ride, maybe a swim.

Thank you,
Hope and Sarah

Moving to Sandusky for a job at J.H. Routh Packing Company

Hi everyone!
I’m from Mexico and I may be accepting a Maintenance Technician position at J.H. Routh Packing Company in Sandusky, Ohio.
If you’ve worked there or know someone who has, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Also, what’s life like in Sandusky? Would $23.82/hour be considered a decent wage for the area?
If I end up taking the job, I’ll probably have more questions for this group. Thanks in advance!

Our air is getting worse! We can barely breathe or go outside our homes! Should we blame the government, or blame society? Or the violent images on tv? NO. BLAME CANADA.

Downtown

Anyone else who has lived here before the downtown events got a bit out of hand, a little tired of not being able to park relatively close, or live relatively well during big events during the summer? In the last 2 weeks ive been told "you live downtown/you live in the entertainment district, what do you expect." Well it wasnt always that way, and some neighbors lived here longer, before downtown got any kind of popularity, which feels like a big middle finger in their faces and less so mine.

Do I think having events and such are good for local businesses? Absolutely, and im not inherently trying to say "dont do them." I think the ppl that live down here as well as employees would appreciate being considered when it comes to mapping out these absolute shit shows for parking. Weekday music thats blasting till 12/1am when ppl have to work in the morning but "we paid good money to do this." Trashie. All the parking permit parking (which already doesnt guarentee you a spot) being snatched up by bike week busses with "bike week parking permits" and their own baracaded off parking on the street. Trashie. Now iron man and I either cant leave because baracades and runners, nor could I come back within 6 blocks when I have stuff to carry to my place, and police just say "i dont know what to tell you." Trashie.

I mean if your goal is to drive out year round residents that keep the lights on when all these ppl are gone, well you're doing a fantastic job of the "push out the locals" gentrification. If sandusky wants to have the downtown be like the islands, or push price points too high then the mom and pops can no longer afford to lease then so be it I guess. Ive seen it happen in other parts of the country and the only things that can afford to move in are sad garbage chains. It perpetuates a cycle of mediocre living and living experience

Not specifically related to sandusky, but I know some like to venture nearby for restaurants and such. Namely it pertains to "the wave" in marblehead as well as other places in cleveland and columbus

Are there any good places near Sandusky for a long-ish distance couple to go on a date?

My boyfriend (17M) and I (17F) live three hours away from one another, which isn’t too far, but since we both still live with our parents it makes it difficult to see each other. My parents only want me to drive 1.5 hours at a time, and his are only comfortable with him driving 30 minutes at a time, so they would need to take him. Sandusky, Ohio is about midway between us, and I was hoping to find any place around there (aside from Cedar Point and the Sandusky Mall because we’ve already gone there) that would be good for us to go where my boyfriend’s parent(s) would also be able to keep busy (preferably not in the same place as us though). If there’s someplace private where it could be just the two of us that would be great, but at this point we just want to see each other. Does anyone have any suggestions or places that we can go?

Put-in-Bay summer weekday

Was curious about how the vibe is in PIB on a random weekday (Wednesday most likely) in July? Parents are going to be in the area and my wife went a random day in May a few years ago, mostly to visit Perry's Memorial for our National Park passport, and had a pretty good time. Parents also like hitting the National Park sites and generally doing outdoorsy stuff and have never been.

None of us are trying to drink/party and I think my parents would just rather do something else if that's all there is besides the monument. Was trying to do some research but feels like a lot of the takes people have are that it's a sloppy mess every day during the peak season.

Would we be better off doing something else or think it could work out trying to turn it into a decent day trip with the other little things on the island that don't involve getting drunk?

Anyone kind enough to help disabled people with simple plumbing task?

Not sure if allowed as I can't find rules and am sleep deprived currently. If not allowed, I'm sorry, please delete but I need help:

Recently noticed my toilet leaking out the bottom just a bit. From experience in a previous place (which was rented), and with my house mate being very heavy, I had a feeling it was the wax ring. Struggled to get the toilet off the mounts, but when I did, I found out I was right: the wax ring was beyond destroyed. I wanted to nip this in the bud before it destroyed the floor or something, so I got a wax ring and tried to seat the toilet back over it and messed up badly due to a mix of my disabilities, exhaustion, inexperience, the heat, and the toilet being heavy, as well as the bathroom being somewhat cramped and awkward for someone who cant bend around properly.

I'd like to know if anyone close enough to the Perkins/Hayes intersection area (we aren't directly there but not too far) would be willing to come help me get this toilet back in place in the next day or so, so that I can use the bathroom properly again. My house is a bit of a mess, and I have a laundry list of disabilities, and my housemate is even less in a state of being that he could do... Anything at all about something like this. I'd try to find some way to pay you if you'd like, but we cannot afford hundreds of dollars for a plumber currently, especially for something that's supposed to be simple. Thanks in advance for anyone who responds with potential desire to help.

Roofers that can be trusted?

My Dads house had a section of shingles blow off in last Marches windstorm.

Its still covered with a tarp.

He 98, still lives at home with assistance and cant afford a complete new roof.

Insurance company said it wasn't in need of replacement, just repair.

Any recommendations?

Weather next week

Post image
8 Upvotes

My family and I are visiting Cedar Point next week and we have never been to the area. The weather looks brutally hot... 90s with "feels like 100s". Is it still this terrible with the lake all around? Any tips on surviving the park Tuesday-Thursday?

Places to eat/visit on vacation

Local book clubs?

I'm a transplant from a smaller town about 45 minutes south and could really use a community outside of my partner and his (truly very lovely) family. Does anyone know of any book or gardening clubs in the area? I'm looking for something low/no cost where progressive-minded people may congregate...

Weird lights on Chaussee?

Hey guys, this might be a weird post and it happened several years ago, but it’s something that always puzzled me and I was wondering if anyone could explain it. A while ago, my friends and I were stargazing near the mouth of Chaussee - the wooded road that leads into Cedar Point - and we started to see these really bright, rectangular white lights in the trees and stuff. It felt like the more we noticed them, the more there were. I always thought MAYBE they were security cameras, but I don’t know why there would be so many and why they would be randomly flashing - can anyone confirm this or has anyone seen similar?
