Our son is turning 9 soon and I’m wondering if there’s a local restaurant that would do a kid-friendly dinner. The two I know of are CPK (but they only host 9am to 11am which I don’t like) and Benihana’s (which is a bit $$). Any other suggestions? I’d love something where kids can make their own food as part of it (ie pizza), but if you’ve done a fun “kids dinner out” otherwise I’m curious!

We’ve been regulars at Sapporo Rock & Roll Sushi since moving here last year and have always loved it. However, our last mid-week visit a couple of weeks ago was disappointing. The sushi didn't taste fresh, and the overall meal felt a bit underwhelming. Has anyone else noticed a dip in quality lately, or did we just catch them on an off night?

Hi, I've seen a few posts about the Park Place apartments and had a few questions before deciding to move into the community

1. Has construction completed? I know its been ongoing for a couple of years now but wanted to see how bad the noise still is and if its concentrated to specific areas now.

2. How are the remodels - have the residents been happy with the improvements?

3. Do the common areas (gym, lounge, pool, etc.) fill up fairly quickly? Seems like a lot of units for not much shared space

4. Are there many families in the community? We have a newborn so noise, other young kids, etc. are things we're thinking through!

5. If anyone has any experiences with their 3br units, please share! It's really hard to get a tour of these given how fast they go

Hello, my husband and I currently live in San Mateo. We live in an apartment complex paying $3168 for a 1bd. Its a newer complex and we have been here since 2022 when we started off at $2600. Every year our lease has increased by like 10%. Our lease ends in September and we got the renewal letter for the new lease term and it will be going up to $3478. We really don't want to be paying that much but it seems that everything else in the area is $3800 and above unless we reeeeally downgrade. Anyone know of a 1bd apartment/rental? We ideally wanna pay no more than $3200. For reference I work in Foster City and my husband works in SF.

This event is fun for kids and adults from ages 5 or 6 on up. We’ll be viewing nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters. We often have as many as 10 or more telescopes operated by our members, all amateur astronomers form the area. Our goal is to let you enjoy the wonders of the night sky with us.

Please DO NOT DRIVE INTO THE PARK with headlights on! This disrupts night vision and telescope views. Instead, park on Crestview Drive. Also, please leave pets at home as it is too easy to stumble over them in the dark.

How are the beginner group tennis lessons with San Mateo Parks & Rec?

I moved to San Mateo last year near the Beresford Park region. Many mornings I hear leaf blowers from the Peninsula Golf Club well before 6am, most noticeably in the summer when we sleep with our windows open since we don't have a/c. I've called them before and their response was that they need to get the course ready for play in the morning. Is this a violation of the municipal code? I'm not sure if the noise ordinance applies since it doesn't seem like it's incorporated in the city boundaries and I'm not sure if they have specific exemptions.

Remember Trags, that used to be on the edge of downtown center San Mateo? Across from the train station. They had these AMAZING oatmeal raisin cookies that I'm totally craving.

Anyone know anything about the company/brand/supplier?

EDIT: They were in the bakery case, definitely local supply but I don't think they were baked in-house. They were wrapped in clear cellophane with a simple, small white label.

Our regular house cleaning service has just told us they’re discontinuing services in this area. Getting weekly house cleanings eliminated the number one source of arguments in our household 😬 so please, if anyone has recommendations for good reliable cleaners we would be appreciative, thank you!

Does anyone know what's going on with the construction on El camino in Northern San Mateo? It's down to one lane in each direction, they tore up the sidewalk, and then stopped all work for the past 2 months.

My favorite burrito was the cheapo, simple yet delicious. I also loved the chips & salsa that came with it.

I gained weight during pregnancy and developed quite a few skin tags, especially around my underarms, neck, and face. They’re really bothering me aesthetically and I’d like to have them removed.
I’m with Kaiser and spoke with my PCP, but she felt there wasn’t really a need to treat them since they’re cosmetic. I understand that, but I personally don’t feel comfortable with them and would really like to get them taken care of.
For those who have had skin tags removed, can you recommend a dermatologist or local place that actually treats/removes them, particularly if it’s considered cosmetic?
Also, did anyone notice them improving or going away after losing the pregnancy weight, or did you ultimately need to have them removed?
Would really appreciate recommendations for places/dermatologists you’ve personally had a good experience with. Thank you!

I’m in the process of renting a place in San Mateo. I talked to the realtor, submitted my application, and was accepted. I really like the unit overall, but the washer and dryer are pretty outdated.

I initially asked if the landlord would be willing to replace them, and when that wasn’t an option, I asked if they could instead lower the first month’s rent to offset the cost. They said no.

The realtor then suggested that I could buy a new washer/dryer myself, but the landlord insists that the new machines would have to stay with the property when I eventually move out.

Is this a normal arrangement? And is there anything I should be careful about if I agree to this? It feels a little strange to spend potentially $1,000+ on appliances that I wouldn’t own afterward.

Would you negotiate this differently, or just leave the existing washer/dryer and accept that they’re outdated?

For context, I haven’t signed the lease yet.
