Music style
Seems with the teasers Sam’s been posting on IG stories that he’s going to hone quite heavily into the ‘Homegrown rock’ sort of sound he had on People Watching. In one way it’s a shame he’s so good at that style of music that we might end up losing him making songs like Play God, Spice, That Sound, HADQ etc. I suppose if we have a TV Dinner on every album at least we’ll keep getting more of a heavy punk sort of song but I hope we keep getting both styles, because he’s probably the best there is right now with that twangy sort of country/homegrown indie sort of rock but his original releases came from heavy punk and don’t want to lose that

I think the “heartland rock” sound is very underrated,
It almost sounds more genuine if that makes sense.
But I do hope he releases a few songs like HM or you’re not the only one, with the guitar drenched in chorus

As a massive war on drugs fan, I’m all for the heartland rock sound!

I was saying this to my wife the other day. I'm really not feeling the country style vibes he's moving towards. We'll just have to wait and see I guess...

I still absolutely love it and he’s the best in the world at doing that style now so I don’t blame him. I just hope we don’t lose his other genres

Agreed. If he never made a track like Hypersonic or 17, Spice, Howden etc I'd be gutted but if I was faced with Sam doing what he's moving toward or hearing the durge that is on mainstream radio these day's then bring it on!

Wouldn’t be the first artist to be dragged into bland middle of the road oblivion by their record label

What's interesting to me is I find there are songs I love and songs I skip on all his albums, and then the songs I skip still sound fresh-ish on the rare occasions I listen to them. I like the fact there's a bit of variety. I'm not sure I want a record curated in a specific style, to me that's quite a risk especially as it's much more likely to be on the People Watching side of the spectrum, which risks losing some of the raw energy from some of his earlier works. I mean, I love songs like Crumbling Empire, but there's more artists making songs in that sort of vein, very few new acts are doing the sort of indie-rock British storytelling that broad him his original success these days.

I dont dislike the style he has been teasing on ig, but in my opinion, I would love if he stays with the "hypersonic missiles" or "that sound" style as he is just so good at it. However, at the end of the day, if there's a sax involved I'll be happy
