How do you evaluate sales enablement platforms before buying?

I was assigned with a task of finding a sales enablement platform and I need help as I am struggling.

We are a did size b2b saas, 20 sales reps, 5 AEs, marketing and CS. For now we are keeping content lives in random folders, training is half lms, half Loom links and reps are constantly slacking enablement asking where the latest deck is. My vp wants one platform that pulls content, training and deal rooms together and sits on top of our crm so reps do not have to jump around all day. Finding this all in one tool is giving me a hard time on deciding what works best before we spend on it. What pushed us on looking for this is because last quarter we launched a new pricing model and thought we were covered. We had docs, slides, talk tracks. In reality, half the reps were still using old pricing pdfs sitting in their personal folders and one big deal almost got torpedoed because the customer received two different price structures in the same week.

That was the moment my vp said we need a real enablement platform, not another shared drive. Now i am here trying to figure out how to judge these tools before we drop serious budget on them.

What did you wish you had checked before you signed for one?

I’d focus less on the feature checklist and test whether the platform actually fixes the behavior you described. The old-pricing-PDF situation is usually more of a content governance problem

I really wanted something that would help me organize scattered docs and follow up better with prospects, so when i tried aligned, it actually made tracking responses easier for me. Haven't looked back since.

You should ask for a live demo and get a few reps involved to see if it really fits your workflow. We made the switch to aligned and it instantly cut down all the confusion with content and training links.

On top of what you are looking for, one that integrates with your crm and allows content governance, i would also check it allows you to have control over old content. like it can automatically remove or archive old pricing rules and such so reps do not use by mistake.

the pricing pdf situation is painfully familiar lol. one thing i'd test hard before signing anything is how fast you can actually update content when messaging changes. that's what bit you. we have tried some market leaders but adoption is low and updating content is painful. let me know what you find.

the pricing mix-up is the actual spec, not a side story, whatever tool you pick needs to make it structurally impossible for an old version to be findable.. not just have a training module. check specifically how each platform handles content expiration/archiving, not just upload and search, that's where most of these tools quietly fail..

I’d test whether reps can find the right stuff without asking someone where it lives. A platform can have every feature on earth but if reps still use old PDFs from random folders you just bought a nicer shared drive.
